The new features of Fortran 2018 Fortran 2018的新特性

The aim of this paper is to summarize the new features of the Fortran standard that is expected to be published in 2018. It was known informally as Fortran 2015 because the choice of features to include was made in 2015, but WG5 has decided to rename it Fortran 2018 to reflect the date of publication. We take as our starting point Fortran 2008 (ISO/IEC 2010)Two official extensions have been published as Technical Specifications. ISO/IEC (2012) specifies further features for interoperability of Fortran with C and ISO/IEC (2015) specifies additional parallel features. WG5 committed itself to include both of these in Fortran 2018. The introduction of a new IEEE standard for floating-point arithmetic (ISO/IEC/IEEE 2011) necessitated changes to the IEEE modules. Beyond these features, WG5 decided to limit changes to the removal of deficiencies and discrepancies, which by definition are all small.

Robust handling of input to a program often requires a large amount of code: parsing the input if it consists of more than just the values, checking that the input makes sense and reporting errors if it does not. For programs of an ad hoc nature or even more than ad hoc writing all that code may be too much work. So the input will often consist of little more than read statements and then some checks to see if the values make sense:

Which is the best Fortran compiler? We're often asked that question, but there is no single answer. All compilers have strong and weak points, and your choice should depend on finding the best match between your requirements and a compiler's strengths. In professional environments, it probably makes sense to make use of two or more compilers, with different strengths – e.g. one for the best run-time performance, and another for superior bug-hunting capabilities. Using more than one compiler also make it less likely that you will become over-dependent on details of a single vendor's implementation. To help our customers make informed decisions, we have compiled a series of charts comparing the main contenders. The version numbers of the compilers used in these comparisons are listed in the Benchmark Tables 2.1 Compare Windows Compilers 2.1.1 Language – What extensions to standard Fortran do the compilers support? Here is the first table.

The next Fortran standard will include enhancements to the parallel programming model based on coarrays that is part of Fortran 2008. Included will be support for teams of images, synchronization using events, collective and atomic operations, enhanced error reporting, and continued execution after the failure of an image.
