The automobile manufacturing units need to create their own core competencies in order to survive in the fiercely competitive market. A core competency is an internal capability that is critical to the success of business. It should provide organisations with significant performance enhancements and should fulfil three attributes: it should offer customer advantages, it should be difficult for competitors to replicate and it should find applications wide variety of products and markets. This paper presents fuzzy-based modelling for competency and strategy parameters.

Increasing the lifetime of wind turbine blades by CBM in a dusty region 在多尘地区用CBM提高风力机叶片寿命

The maintenance and shutdown costs of a wind turbine blade have a direct impact on the total production and can represent a loss of as much as 25% of the energy generated. Establishing appropriate condition-based maintenance (CBM) which involves monitoring system becomes a major need for wind turbines located in a dusty region. CBM will considerably reduce the costs and the number of maintenance interventions, knowing that in a dusty region, the blades are submitted to erosive wear which contributes to the modification of the aerodynamic shape of the leading edge, and hence reduce the performance of the wind turbine. This paper shows that before implementing a CBM system, it is necessary to understand the different mechanisms of erosive wear. The experiments carried out show that the installation of this system is very effective in detecting any degradation caused by erosive wear on the surface of a blade during its service.

Performance evaluation in a construction project: an empirical study of Canaan city housing estate, Ota, Nigeria 建设项目绩效评价——以尼日利亚奥塔市迦南市住宅小区为例

Project performance has always been affected by many factors across its lifecycle due to the increasing intricacy and flexibility of construction project. This study evaluated the performance in a construction project with emphasis on Canaan city Housing Estate (CHE). The researchers employed the instrument of main data collection to show the practicability of the cardinal performance indicators (CPIs) with a five-point likert scale for entreating information from the project actors with regard to their perceptions on 50 performance features. The findings showed that the Cronbach's alpha (α) of the data was 0.8942 indicating that the index of instrument reliability was consistent and reliable. Moreover, the empirical finding revealed that performance evaluation in a construction project has gone beyond the traditional approach of quality, time and cost. This study would assist the construction participants in enhancing the project performance and efficient evaluation toward the satisfactory delivery of a construction project.

An application of fuzzy optimisation methodology for simultaneous optimisation of continuous and categorical characteristics 模糊优化方法在连续和分类特性同时优化中的应用

Many modern processes have to satisfy customer requirements on more than one output characteristics. The process engineers need to execute the process with an optimum setting which would simultaneously meet the requirements on multiple response variables. This can be achieved by using a simultaneous optimisation of multiple characteristics methodology. A lot of research has been carried out in the field of simultaneous optimisation of characteristics. Most of this research focuses on optimising multiple continuous characteristics only. This paper is a case study on the simultaneous optimisation of continuous and categorical characteristics. The sprint productivity and defect proneness of the agile software development process is simultaneously optimised using fuzzy optimisation approach. The optimum obtained by the suggested methodology is superior to the ones obtained by optimising the responses separately. Even though the case study is on optimising only two characteristics, the methodology can be generalised to optimise many characteristics simultaneously.

Innovation is presently the hottest topic in business, industry, academia, and the government. In response to a prevailing priority of business and industry to drive innovation, this paper introduces a research study on the development of a theory of innovation from the perspective of how people work and collaborate in the pursuit of innovation. The focus of innovation ranges from the acquisition of technology products, services, operational processes as well as workforce talent. This justifies using a systems framework for the methodology development in this paper. The umbrella theory of innovation developed in this paper is transmittable to innovation pursuits in diverse operational environments in business, industry, government, the military, and academia.

Scale development of critical success factors for quality management practices: evidence from Indian manufacturing SMEs 质量管理实践关键成功因素的规模发展:来自印度制造业中小企业的证据

In developing countries like India, the level of awareness about quality management practices (QMP) in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) has increased recently. This study attempts to develop and validate a QMP scale for manufacturing SMEs. Using Pareto analysis vital QMP factors were identified and questionnaire was administered to 750 SMEs with 68.5% response rate. In order to extract and validate the latent factors, exploratory factor analysis coupled with confirmatory factor analysis was used. Further, structural equation modelling (SEM) was deployed for determining interrelationships of extracted factors. This resulted in seven-QMP factors with R = (0.50-0.81) and R-squared values ranged between 0.23-0.66 representing the variation in 35 items. The study contributes to QMP literature, by bestowing empirical data on QMP factors which are more appropriate for manufacturing SMEs. Though the study was conducted in Indian SMEs context, the research outcomes may be applicable for general manufacturing firms with slight modifications.

Strategies for failure prevention in a gas motor of launch vehicle control actuation system 运载火箭控制作动系统气体马达故障预防策略

Hydraulic servo actuators are employed for the thrust vector control of the liquid engines. Vane type gas motor, the prime mover of the system, is a critical subsystem with intricate dynamic elements such as rotor, bearings, vanes and speed regulator. Failure prevention of such critical systems, which is of paramount importance to the success of a launch vehicle mission, depends on making the design robust and ensuring that the critical parameters of the system hardware are within the specified range to give optimal performance. This paper addresses the strategies for achieving the design robustness through severe environmental stress testing and realisation of system hardware complying with quality requirements, which are essential for failure prevention. Towards this, critical environments for the gas motor have been identified and testing extended much beyond the system qualification levels, inducing failures. The test observations and data are analysed critically and design modifications made for broadening the operating environments. The quality systems and procedures for the system hardware are strengthened to assure reliable performance of the gas motor.

SPC techniques using M/M/1 queueing model SPC技术采用M/M/1排队模型

In a manufacturing process, no two products can be exact, which might be due to many factors. These variations need to be monitored and controlled through the use of statistical process control (SPC). When they are small, and their effects are barely noticeable, we say the process is 'in control'. Otherwise, they lead the process to 'out of control'. Items enter the system and wait in a line for measurements; by following a queue discipline. Such a queue is then characterised according to service time, number of quality inspectors and waiting space. A good process control will also protect the product in the sense that the lots produced at permissible levels of quality will have a good chance to be in control. The objective of this paper is to introduce a control chart using M/M/1 queueing discipline to study and maintain a process control in a regular interval.

These variations need to be monitored and controlled through the use of statistical process control (SPC). When they are small, and their effects are barely noticeable, we say the process is 'in control'. Otherwise, they lead the process to 'out of control'. Items enter the system and wait in a line for measurements; by following a queue discipline. Such a queue is then characterised according to service time, number of quality inspectors and waiting space. A good process control will also protect the product in the sense that the lots produced at permissible levels of quality will have a good chance to be in control. Statistical analysis of the researches carried out on Lean and Six Sigma applications in healthcare industry 精益和六西格玛在医疗保健行业应用研究的统计分析

The Lean and Six Sigma are two complementary methodologies in the sense that Lean focuses on reducing waste and increasing speed; whereas Six Sigma focuses on reducing variations and increasing consistency. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of Lean and Six Sigma applications in the healthcare sector. The work done by many researchers in healthcare industry is discussed. Literature survey shows that most of the studies (42%) are focused on reducing processing time. It is also found that number of studies focused on reducing processing time never goes out of phase. The Pareto chart analysis was performed for number of studies in various countries and different departments. It is found that more than 50% of studies were carried out in the USA only and 22% of the studies were performed in emergency department in various countries. The matrix plots are shown for number of studies in different countries and different departments throughout the time line starting from the year 2000 to till date. It is also found that Lean and Six Sigma methodologies were uniformly applied in emergency and surgery departments, whereas in case of countries; only the USA shows continuous applications of Lean and Six Sigma techniques.

Parameter optimisations for gold electroplating of gold jewellery 金饰镀金工艺参数优化

The purpose of this research is to reduce the over-specification of thickness in electroplating process of gold jewellery using experimental design for analysing optimisation of parameter conditions affecting thickness of gold jewellery in electroplating process and finding optimisation for controlling specification and reducing average thickness. The factors were electroplating period, gold concentration, the electric current and the electroplating temperature. Each factor had two levels. There were four responses collected, that were average gold thickness (Y1), minimum value of gold thickness (Y2), standard deviation of gold thickness (Y3) and average of gold on stainless steel sheet (Y4). 0.05 significance level was used. The results showed that the appropriate parameters were 17 minutes of electroplating period, 0.4 gram per litre of gold concentration, 0.6 amperes per square decimetre of electric current and 60 degree Celsius of electroplating temperature. The experiment could reduce the electroplating period by 4.20 minutes, the average gold thickness jig by 0.13 micron, minimum of gold thickness by 0.19 micron, and average gold percentage by 3.91 percent. These results reduced specification from maximum value of thickness from 3.75 micron to 3.55 micron and mid-thickness average from 3.50 micron to 3.45 micron.
