The white mango scale insect (WMS), Aulacaspis tubercularis Newstead, 1906 is a key pest of mango in Ethiopia, which has been spreading throughout the country since its introduction in 2010. Evaluation of the efficacy of two systemic soil drenching insecticides (thiamethoxam 25 % WG and imidacloprid 35 % SC) independently, and in combination with tree management (pruning) for the control of the WMS was conducted under field conditions in western Ethiopia in two locations in 2018 and 2019. Randomized complete block designs with three replications were used for the experiments. In the first site, all treatments resulted in scale populations that were significantly lower than the control (1086 crawlers and females per leaf). Thiamethoxam 25 % WG at 12 g/tree + pruning resulted in the lowest number of the WMS after the second treatment (43.5 per leaf) followed by thiamethoxam 25 % WG at 18 g/tree + pruning, which was statistically similar. In the second site, imidacloprid 35 % SC + thiamethoxam 25 % WG at 18 g/tree + pruning, resulted in the lowest mean number of the WMS (31.1 per leaf) followed by thiamethoxam 25 % WG at 12 g/tree + pruning (61.4 per leaf). This treatment also gave the highest percentage reduction in number of the WMS compared to the WMS counting before treatment application. This study has shown that use of systemic insecticides and pruning are promising control tactics for the WMS. Cost implications and effects of the insecticides on the natural enemy complex and residual toxicity in fruits need to be evaluated. To cite: Belay Habtegebriel, Dawit Melisie, Hunde Kidane, Teshale Daba & Ferdu Azerefegn. 2020. 引用:Belay Habtegebriel、Dawit Melie、Hunde Kidane、Teshale Daba和Ferdu Azerefegn。2020. 50(1):65-73http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3987792http://zoobank.org/References/8FA7BF70-B678-420B-9E11-3D87C8F16C76

the rosemary leaf Beetle (Chrysolina (Taeniochrysea) americana (linnaeus, 1758)) does not occur in americas, it was given this name erroneously. It is dis tributed around the mediterranean sea in southern europe, north africa, the near east and the middle east (Balachowsky 1963), although the only avail able records from the near east are from turkey (western and southwestern pro vinces) (gül Zümreoğlu 1972; Tuatay et al. 1972; Kısmalı 1973; Aslan et al. 2003). I failed to find any additional record of C. americana from the near east. C. americana is actively expanding its distribution to the north; it appeared in the UK in 1963, and is now considered to be established there (Johnson 1963; Halstead 1996; Barclay & Mann 2002; MacLeod 2002). In recent decades it has been recorded from Belgium, Germany, Switzerland (Kippenberg 2015), The Netherlands (Beenen & Winkelman 2001) and latvia (telnov et al. 1997; Bukejs & Telnov 2010). C. americana feeds and breeds mainly on the leaves of rose mary (Rosmarinus officinalis l.) and la ven der (Lavandula species), but also on thyme (Thymus spp.), sage (Salvia spp.), russian sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia Benth.), and possibly other plants in the Lamiaceae family (Balachowsky 1963; Bibolini 1964; Halstead 1996; Barclay & Mann 2002; MacLeod 2002; CABI 2016). C. americana is flightless and therefore restricted in its dispersal ability, but can be easily transported together with its host plants (MacLeod 2002). In the UK, C. americana is now considered a pest of la vender, rosemary and thyme (macleod 2002). the fauna of the Israeli Chrysomelinae (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) was sur veyed by friedman et al. (2005), summarizing around 80 years of intensive col lecting, based on the national Collection of Insects, the steinhardt museum of na tural History, Israel national Center for Biodiversity studies, Department of Zoo logy, tel aviv university (smnHtau). sixteen species of Chrysolina were re cor ded, not including C. americana. Chrysolina are mainly spectacular, large and colorful beetles, usually dwelling freely on their host plants (both larvae and adults), often easily collected or photographed by both professional and amateur en to mologists, and among the better studied and better known groups of beetles.

We present the first Middle-Eastern record of Thaumastocoris peregrinus Car- pintero & Dellapé, an invasive pest that feeds and develops only on euca lyp tus trees. This species was found in Israel for the first time in Eucalyptus camaldu- lensis stands in October 2014. A survey of several eucalyptus groves was conducted in Tel Aviv and its surroundings to assess the geographical dis tri bu tion and host-plant associations of T. peregrinus . We summarize new and old data on this species, i.e., its identification, immature stages, bio logy, pheno logy, and damage caused to the host plant.

Within the framework of the German-Israeli Lepidoptera Fauna of the Levant project during 1998–2010, a list of the presently known species of the Plusiinae (12 species), Acontiinae (10), Bryophilinae (10), Heliothinae (8), Metoponiinae (7), Eustrotiinae (4), Acronictinae (3), Condicinae (3), Psaphidinae (2), Bagisarinae (1), Dilobinae (1), and Eriopinae (1) is presented. Altogether 62 species of these subfamilies have been found in Jordan with 22 of them (35.5 %) being new records. High representativeness of species in comparison with the Levant fauna shown for the Acontiinae, Bryophilinae, Metoponiinae and Plusiinae ranging from 66.7–71.4 %. The Heliothinae of Jordan are represented by 80 % of species found in the Levant. The subfamily Acronictinae represented in Jordan only by 30 % of the Levant fauna is substantially impoverished due to the lack of rive rine forests, which are uncommon in Jordan. The total fauna of Jordanian Noc tuoidea is represented by 364 species.

the silvanidae is a family comprising mainly small, subcortical, saproxylic, beetles with the more or less dorsoventrally flattened body. It is a family of high economic importance, as some of the species are pests of stored goods; some of them are distributed throughout the world, mainly by human activities. nine teen species of silvanidae in ten genera are hereby recorded from Israel. eleven of those are considered alien, of which four are established either in nature or indoor; eight species are either indigenous or have been introduced in the very remote past. seven species, Psammoecus bipunctatus, P. triguttatus, Pa rasilvanus fairemairei, Silvanus castaneus, S. inarmatus, S. ?mediocris and Uleiota planatus, are recorded from Israel for the first time. Airaphilus syriacus was recorded only once in 1913; its status is doubtful. A. abeillei may occur in Israel, although no material is available. twelve species are associated with stored products, although only three, Ahasverus advena, Oryzaephilus suri namensis and O. mercator, are of distinct economic importance; the rest are either rare or only occasionally intercepted on imported goods. An identification key for all genera and species is provided.

Five (3♀, 2♂) adult psyllids were collected the end of April, 2015 from Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. (Myrtaceae) at Tzapari Bird Park in Tel Aviv, Israel. They are identified as Platyobria biemani Burckhardt, Queiroz & Malenovský, 2014 a presumed Australian species which has been previously known only from the type locality on the island of Lesbos, Greece (Burckhardt et al. 2014). Platyobria be longs to the Spondyliaspidinae, a rich and diversified sub family mostly restricted to Australia that lives on the Myrtaceae, in particular Eucalyptus spp. (Hollis 2004). Several spondyliaspidines have been introduced to other continents, where some of them have become serious eucalypt pests (Quei roz et al. 2012). Most of these introductions are relatively recent and their spread is usually rapid. This is particularly well documented for South America where no eucalypt psyllids were known before 1990. In the second half of the 1990s, three species (Blastopsylla occidentalis Taylor, Ctenarytaina eucalypti (Maskell) and C. spatulata Taylor) ap peared almost simultaneously (Burckhardt et al. 1999). A few years later a fourth species (Glycaspis brimblecombei Moore) was found in Chile (Sandoval & Rothmann 2002) and it quickly spread over the con tinent (Queiroz et al. 2013).

Species interslope divergence of ants caused by sharp microclimatic stresses at ‘Evolution Canyon’ II, Lower Nahal Keziv, western Upper Galilee, Israel

species diversity of ants was recorded in 2000–2001 at seven stations of a microsite in nahal Keziv, western upper galilee, designated as ‘evolution Ca nyon’ II. In the 7000 m2 area, we recorded 31 ant species including one species identified only at the genus level: 19 on the ‘African’ slope, 12 on the ‘European’ slope, and 17 species at the valley bottom. among the recorded species one is new to the fauna of Israel (Cataglyphis semitonsus). Interslope ant species com position varies remarkably due to differential microclimatic conditions, partly demonstrating the effect of microclimate differences on ant species diversity at a microscale. further studies at this site following the ‘evolution Canyon’ mo del as conducted at eC I in mount Carmel, will enable indepth investigations of changes in biodiversity, adaptation and incipient sympatric speciation, i.e. evolution in action, within a relatively free breeding interslope populations.
