This paper focused on the management of hybrid learning in resource-scarce communities for private and public schools, drawing insights from Nigeria. The study employed a systematic approach, consisting of an extensive literature search, article eligibility assessment and synthesis of findings. The authors offered a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and benefits associated with hybrid learning. It highlighted the importance of hybrid learning in addressing educational disparities and examined challenges faced in its implementation. Enhanced student engagement, improved learning outcomes and increased access to educational resources were identified potential benefits of hybrid learning. Effective strategies for managing the adoption process include comprehensive planning and preparation, stakeholder engagement, public-private partnerships and targeted government policies that promote hybrid learning in resource-limited communities. In conclusion, the review provided a thorough analysis of challenges and potentials of implementing hybrid learning in resource-scarce communities in Nigeria. Effective training on technology use in the classroom and continuous support for teachers is crucial to overcoming the challenges. Based on the review, it is recommended, amongst others, that there should be collaborative efforts between private and public schools, government agencies non-profits and technology companies to consolidate resources and expertise, ensuring the long-term sustainability of hybrid learning initiatives. There is a need for teacher training and support for the success of the program.

This study adopted the systematic literature review to explore on the influence of ethical leadership on the employees’ performance. The study involved various empirical articles published between the year 2012 and 2022.these studies were retrieved through exhaustive manual searches of online databases using “ethical leadership” and “employee performance” and “job performance” keywords. The study did not find a consensus definition of ethical leadership in the literature. Brown et al.'s definition of ethical leadership has been largely used. The developed measurements did not explicitly address all aspects of ethical leadership. While three distinct survey questions were used to quantitatively analyze the ethical leadership, the Ethical Leadership Scale developed by Brown et al., is the most effective questionnaire. Finally, Ethical Leadership has been found to have a favorable impact on workers' performance. Based on the conclusions, future scholars ought to put up a comprehensive definition of ethical leadership that takes into account various factors. Furthermore, future scholars ought to develop a comprehensive measuring instrument for ethical leadership that takes into account various relevant factors. Finally, research on ethical leadership ought to be done in various nations.

This study sought to establish the impact of climate change adaptation strategies on maize productivity among smallholder farmers in Dodoma, Tanzania. Employing a cross-sectional research design, data was collected from 274 respondents who were randomly selected. A structured questionnaire was utilized for data collection, and the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) technique was employed to estimate the effects of climate adaptation strategies on maize productivity. The findings indicate that smallholder farmers who adopted climate change adaptation tactics achieved higher maize yields compared to non-adopters. Additionally, results from multiple linear regression demonstrate that increased maize yields are associated with the adoption of drought-resistant maize varieties, intercropping, minimal tillage, adjusted planting dates, fertilizers, irrigation and short-duration maize varieties. Notably, crop rotation showed no significant effect on maize productivity. Policy recommendations include government investment in promoting the adoption of climate change adaptation strategies among smallholder farmers to mitigate losses and improve the farmers’ well-being. Furthermore, investments in modern irrigation schemes and the use of drought-resilient seeds are deemed crucial for enhancing agricultural resilience in the face of climate change.

This study examined the availability and utilization of ICT facilities in teaching and learning of agricultural sciences at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). The study adopted a descriptive survey design and the population of the study comprised of 65 instructors from the College of Agriculture (CoA), 4 Heads of Department and the Head of ICT services at the university. A list of instructors with a minimum of ten or more years in teaching from the CoA was used to develop a sampling frame and all research respondents were purposively selected. The interview schedule and questionnaire with a reliability of 0.89 were employed as means of data collection. Quantitative data was analyzed descriptively while qualitative data were analyzed based on themes. The study revealed that most of the ICT facilities were found to be available at the university but they were inadequate to accommodate the number of instructors present at the respective departments. The study further revealed that the extent of utilization was moderate with some of the ICT facilities being over utilized while others were being underutilized. Therefore, it is recommended that the university administration should improve the ICT infrastructure at the departmental level, offer professional development programs that focus on enhancing instructors' technological proficiency and advocate for sufficient resource allocation at both the university and departmental levels to meet the growing demands of instructors and students.

Trigonometry is a challenging area of mathematics for many students, especially for pre-service primary teachers in TTCs. The Symbolab calculator, software developed to assist mathematicians in solving complex problems, is used to improve students' performance and understanding. This study investigated the effectiveness of using the Symbolab calculator on second-year student-teachers, comparing their performance with those without the calculator. The data was analysed using the t-test. The findings showed that the integration of the Symbolab calculator significantly improved students' performance and understanding, reducing the time taken to solve trigonometric equations. It is recommended that further research be conducted on the effectiveness of combining different instructional methods in trigonometry instruction. There is a need to encourage teachers to adopt various pedagogical strategies for improved learning outcomes.

The study sought to establish the effects of the Free Education Policy on learner enrollment, school infrastructure, financing and the quality of teaching and learning in community primary and secondary public schools in Zambia. The study participants included the District Education Board Secretaries, head teachers, class teachers, learners and parents from 10 provinces, selected using probability and non-probability sampling techniques. Quantitative data was collected from teachers through a structured questionnaire. In addition, qualitative data was collected from the District Education Board Secretaries, learners and parents through in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussion guides. Quantitative data was processed, cleaned and analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 to produce descriptive statistics. Qualitative data was transcribed, sorted and analyzed along with survey data to establish emergent trends. The study found that the implementation of the Free Education Policy had increased school enrollments and government funding. The increase in the number of learners in schools has put pressure on the already overstretched educational resources like teachers, desks, textbooks, toilets and laboratory facilities, indirectly affecting the quality of education. The study suggests that Zambia's Free Education Policy implementation can be strengthened by prioritizing desks, textbooks, sanitary facilities, teacher deployment, modern classroom construction, especially in rural areas, and enacting sustainable financing legislation. The study, within the lens of the Capability Approach, has practical implications on how the implementation of the Free Education Policy can be strengthened in Zambia.

This study dealt with management of climate changes in Turkana County, Kenya. The study used the descriptive design. The target population was 200 household-heads identified from Loima and Turkwel Wards. A sample of 60 household-heads was randomly drawn to participate in the study. A questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data while an interview collect the quantitative data. The study concluded that pastoralist communities relied on traditional interventions to cope with effects of climate change. Practiced traditional interventions include migration of people and livestock to other areas presumed to be having more supply of pasture and water and livelihood diversification. Inter-community conflicts over grazing right is the key factor that hindered the implementation of climate change interventions. Other hindering factors include migration of people and livestock, politicians’ exploitation of the pastoralist communities and food insecurity. Experienced challenges include cultural values, illiteracy, lack of trust between facilitators and the community, wrong approach and interventions being done by strangers. The study recommends that development agencies need to work in collaboration with communities to develop and implement interventions against climate change. Pastoral communities need to access relevant information on climate change through attending seminars, workshops and public meetings. Relevant stakeholders should help the pastoralist communities to overcome their unique challenges through community-based seminars and workshops. Finally, the government and other development agencies should focus on the development of pastoralist communities in the country by investing in adult education to reduce illiteracy.

Finally, the government and other development agencies should focus on the development of pastoralist communities in the country by investing in adult education to reduce illiteracy.","PeriodicalId":388954,"journal":{"name":"EAST AFRICAN JOURNAL OF EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SCIENCES","volume":"1 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141277814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examined the drivers of hired labour use among sugarcane outgrowers in Kilombero Valley, Tanzania. The study adopted the cross-sectional survey design, encompassing the population of 8,987, with the sample size of 400 drawn from four villages within Kilosa District. The composition of the sample size was determined through a stratified sampling method, categorising outgrowers based on villages, hamlets and the gender of household heads. Data was gathered through a questionnaire. Descriptive and binary logistic regression analyses were employed, with the dependent variable measured on a dichotomous scale. The results reveal that household size, income, age, gender, land size and farm distance from home significantly influenced the utilisation of hired labour while the level of education was identified as an inconsequential contributing factor. These findings shed light on the recent development of hired labour use among outgrowers in the agro-industrial sector. Therefore, improving the functioning of rural labour markets should be considered an effective way of enhancing labour productivity for the mutual benefits of both households that hire and sell labour.
