In order to avoid the influence of adaptive cruise control system (ACC) on ride comfort and traffic flow, a hierarchical control strategy is proposed. The prediction model for the preceding vehicle and following vehicle is established. The safety and the ride comfort of the vehicle are taken as the optimisation targets. An upper controller based on model predictive control (MPC) algorithm is constructed to obtain the desired acceleration. In order to prevent switching error between drive torque and brake torque, and improve control accuracy, the lower controller is designed by integral separation PID control algorithm to track the preceding vehicle speed and the safe vehicle spacing distance. The simulation results show that the strategy can effectively control the vehicle speed under rapid acceleration/deceleration condition and steady-state cruising condition, and track the preceding vehicle speed near the safe spacing distance to ensure the safety, high efficiency and ride comfort.

The autonomous vehicle is the dream project of most of the majestic companies; however, providing a full-fledged autonomous vehicle is very complicated. In this paper, the pedestrian actions are captured using cameras and fine-tuned within a limited amount of time. Certain features of the captured video and their efficient feature descriptors achieve improved accuracy in pedestrian action recognition. The Skeleton based Spatio-Temporal Interest Points (S-STIP) feature is combined with the new interclass discriminative dictionaries. The sparse descriptor is constructed using sparse coding based on orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm and dictionary learning based on Efficient Block Coordinate Descent (EBCD) algorithm. Finally, the sparse descriptor is given as input to the SVM classifier for recognising pedestrian actions. The human action data sets KTH, Weizmann and JAAD are used for experimentation, and the combination of the S-STIP feature and the enhanced sparse descriptor achieves better performance compared to other existing action recognition methods.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) is a tremendously promising innovation in the field of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). It facilitates a vehicle to communicate on the road with infrastructure or OBU to increase road safety and driving conditions. Further, to deliver the same requires a secure network build-up through a legitimate entity. However, in an open network, any of the participating entities may be malicious. Therefore we need a proper solution to mitigate the effects of such entities by authenticating them, and it should also preserve the privacy of entity and integrity of message so that the impact of any malicious entity can be nullified. The existing solutions focus on any of the above aspects, but not all, further they are not computationally efficient. Inspired by this, we propose a computationally efficient approach that achieves most of the security requirements with less communication overhead. We have used distributed pseudo_id for preserving the privacy of vehicle and the ID-based Certificateless Signcryption scheme based on elliptic curve cryptography to provide an effective way to achieve mutual authentication, integrity, non-repudiation, and confidentiality. The security analysis of our approach demonstrates the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed scheme.
