DEC at the Intersection: Growing Together: Developing a Sense of Belonging for Children of Color With Disabilities DEC在十字路口:共同成长:为有色残疾儿童培养归属感

I recently attended a conference to support doctoral scholars of color through the unique experiences accompanying their academic pursuits. People of Color were authentic at the conference and did not fear judgment. The linguistic diversity allowed attendees to appreciate the richness and complexity of language, and culture in academic discourse. Hearing different accents, dialects, and forms of expression while discussing academic topics was both intellectually stimulating and affirming of the diverse experiences and identities of the attendees. As many noted, being in the presence of individuals who connected with their experiences on a personal level filled them with a sense of empowerment and pride. This conference was an incredible representation of the determination, respect, understanding, and sense of belonging often absent from academic spaces. It was a vital reminder of why we continue to strive despite the obstacles and of our responsibility in advocating for the next generation of leaders from underrepresented backgrounds.
