Healthcare systems from numerous countries are predominantly built on a disease-treatment model rather than a proactive health-prevention model. As the life expectancy has increased over time, the quality of one’s longevity is compromised by numerous chronic diseases which can be prevented. Unforeseeably, midlife mortality (among people aged 24 to 44) has increased in the last two decades as a 60-years review of mortality in the United States reveals. The most critical causes of these changes are linked to unhealthy behaviors such as unhealthy food consumption, sedentarism, smoking, alcohol use, drug addiction, workaholism, inadequate stress management or sleeplessness, all representing starting points or risk factors for diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular, neuropsychological and autoimmune diseases. Lifestyle Medicine is based on six pillars: whole-food, plant predominant diet, regular physical activity, quality sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and social connection, all playing a major role in treating health problems. Furthermore, being given the lack of studies focused on lifestyle medicine, leading national experts were summoned to analyze the existing data and gaps regarding behaviors, chronic diseases including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune imbalances or other pathologies.

While the field of lifestyle medicine has been growing rapidly world-wide over the past two decades in particular, the prevalence of chronic (lifestyle-related) disease is increasing, particularly in developed nations. Lifestyle Medicine approaches are a promising basis for preventing, managing and reversion chronic disease; however, these approaches are based almost exclusively on individual behavioral change. Such changes are best developed and supported with a health-coaching methodology.

This paper discusses stress in healthcare, particularly in the mental healthcare profession, and its impact on the employees, the patients, and organizational performance. The paper will address the different theories and models of stress, various types of stress, and evidence-based approaches to stress management. A particular group of healthcare workers, mental healthcare workers, is the target of this paper. The paper will describe the effects of stress on the targeted mental health workers and the role the leaders and managers must have in providing a safe and stress-free environment for them. However, the conclusion of this paper applies to all healthcare worker groups.

This paper will discuss attributions, stereotyping, the relationship between them, and the challenges it creates for women seeking leadership positions in health care. Our paper presents different theories and models of stereotyping and some new controversies on gender stereotyping. It also introduces some strategies for managers to use when working with young women interested in pursuing leadership roles in the healthcare field. Gender and gender stereotyping discussed in this paper points out the root of gender inequality in society and organizations.

Objective. Aging is associated with several physiological changes that can increase the risk of disorders such as sarcopenia. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to screen the risk of sarcopenia and related factors in elderly men. Methods. A total of 450 men over the age of 60 years voluntarily participated in the study. Anthropometric indicators and body composition were measured. The timed up and go test (TUG) was used to evaluate physical performance and screen for sarcopenia. The physical activity scale for the elderly (PASE) questionnaire and mini nutritional assessment were used to evaluate physical activity levels and nutritional status. Results. The study found a significant negative correlation between TUG and total PASE scores (p<0.01) and a positive correlation between TUG and age (p<0.01). Linear regression analysis revealed that about 17% of the alterations in TUG scores (p<.001) could be attributed to PASE scores. Additionally, the results of the T-test demonstrated that sarcopenic subjects had significantly higher age (p<0.01) and lower physical activity levels. Our findings suggest that physical activity is an important factor in preventing sarcopenia in the elderly. Conclusion. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of physical activity in preventing sarcopenia in elderly men. Maintaining an active lifestyle may reduce the risk of sarcopenia and related geriatric syndromes.
