Technology neutrality as a practice: A discussion of two UK interventions on broadband and associated outcomes 技术中立作为一种实践:关于宽带和相关结果的两个英国干预措施的讨论

This paper discusses two market interventions in the United Kingdom (UK) to spur activity and growth in the UK fixed-line broadband markets – local loop unbundling (LLU) and the Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) Superfast Broadband programme. With each of these interventions, the intervening agencies identified the outcomes in terms of specific end-user service objectives such as bandwidth, network coverage or availability rather than underlying technology i.e. both interventions were technology neutral. The paper explores the extent to which technology neutrality as a practice was relevant to the intended outcomes. It does so by combining desk research with the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis of the interventions. This discussion is informed by ideas related to the Osborne effect and identifies a mixed picture of outcomes that needs further investigation.

A Comparative Study of IoT-Communication Systems Cost Structure: : Initial Findings of Radio Access Networks Cost 物联网通信系统成本结构的比较研究:无线接入网络成本的初步发现

This techno-economic study introduces a framework to study the deployment cost of IoT radio access network and to compare the cost and capacity of LPWAN, LPLAN, and Cellular-IoT systems. There are a plethora of Communication technologies available today. Small rollout and pilot projects are visible for most of the IoT connectivity technologies. However, The economic viability of cellular and non-cellular IoT connectivity technologies are not definite. The primary objective of this work is to analyze the cost structure of SigFox, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, and WiFi-HaLow. In this paper, we study an urban scenario with the consideration of an Greenfield and Brownfield actor to understand the technology selection strategy of communication service prodvider’s perspective. One of our findings indicates that the maintenance cost is the key cost driver for IoT radio access networks. We also point out certain bounds where a technology is potentially cost-effective.

Industry 4.0 from 5G perspective: Use-cases, requirements, challenges and approaches 5G视角下的工业4.0:用例、需求、挑战和方法

In this paper, we describe the Industry 4.0 use-cases that belong to ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC) service category, as seen by the on-going 3GPP standardization. Specifically, our focus is on motion control, factory and process automation, and we present their key characteristic as well as their requirements in terms of latency, jitter, reliability, and availability. We then provide a brief overview of the techniques that 3GPP envisions to be the enablers of ultra-reliable and low-latency services in 5G radio-access network (RAN), which is arguably the critical part of the URLLC end-to-end connectivity. We conclude the paper with a brief discussion.

The effect of Media Richness on Web 2.0 - Based Agricultural Knowledge and Information Systems (AKIS 2.0) 媒介丰富度对基于Web 2.0的农业知识与信息系统的影响

The study investigates how the richness of social media technologies impact on their use for knowledge sharing among the primary knowledge actors in the Agricultural Knowledge and Information Systems. The overall research is based on the amalgamation of the Agricultural Knowledge and Information Systems (AKIS) model, Nonaka’s SECI model, and the media richness theory (MRT). The AKIS model was applied to discover how the use of web 2.0 technologies for knowledge sharing could enhance interactive communication among the primary knowledge actors in Agricultural Knowledge and Information Systems. The SECI model was used to identify the different stages involved in the creation and sharing of knowledge among the knowledge actors and the MRT was also employed to assess how the richness of the web 2.0 technologies could affect the interaction among the knowledge actors through the various SECI processes involved in the knowledge sharing process. The study proposes that there exists a positive correlation between the tacitness of knowledge and the richness of media used for sharing knowledge, which can be used as the basis for selecting the appropriate social media technologies for the different modes of the SECI processes for effective knowledge sharing among knowledge actors.

The Future of Teaching - What are Students Expectations 教学的未来——学生的期望是什么

With the increased use of digital devices and services, children now a days spend many hours online. Over the last years, digital devices, computers, smart boards, and the children’s own smart phones are thought integrated into the teaching environments in Danish schools. It is an attempt to meet the children on the platform they like and is considered to be natural for them. The Active Digital Learning Environments in Schools, ADLES project is a European Erasmus plus project that focuses on active learning in vocational and secondary schools. This paper focuses on understanding students’ expectations to future digital technologies to understand the motivation and expectation of these to the future schools. Surveys have been sent to secondary and vocational schools and this forms the basis for the discussions in this paper. The paper focuses on Denmark and two of the ADLES partner countries, Italy and Portugal, to be able to discuss regional differences in students’ expectations. The result shows that students are expecting IT and advanced digital services to be part of the school educational system in the future.

A fall-detection system that uses body area network and thermal energy harvesting technologies 使用人体区域网络和热能收集技术的跌倒检测系统

The research in technologies for body worn sensors has reached a maturity level that empowers the development of small sensors, which encompass wireless and energy harvesting capabilities. By deploying these sensors in body area networks new unique ambient assisted living services can be created. A key service in this area is a fall-detector for the elderly, which is able to sense falls and transmit alarms wirelessly. However, a major challenge in relation to this service is the dependency of batteries which limits the data-collecting capabilities, the data-processing capabilities, and the wireless communication capabilities. In addition, the process of changing batteries is costly, risky and impractical. In this paper the challenges with the batteries are overcome by deploying an energy harvesting system. The energy is harvested from the thermal flux emitted from human skins to its surroundings. A considerable part of this energy is used to overcome the challenges in transmitting the fall-detector data wirelessly. From simulations it has been found that a small form factor fall-detector sensor is able to harvest enough energy to transmit an alarm over the needed distance.

Digital Economy Planning in Kuwait 科威特的数字经济规划

The aim of this paper is to provide a case study of digital economy planning in Kuwait, a country that is attempting to match the developments of neighboring middle eastern countries, but constrained by policy and cultural limitations. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), including Kuwait, push to be involved in digital and smart cities is not surprising. Dubai has no oil economy and those GCC countries reliant on oil wish to diversify their economies.

Digital Transformation of Automobiles - from product to service 汽车数字化转型——从产品到服务

The research is aimed at analyzing and evaluating the current automobile industry status from an organizational perspective regarding the utilization of product service systems that are a product of digitalization and servitization. Results of the data analyzed show that the digital communication has caused the automobile industry to rely upon data, services and partnership formation to retain and attain new customers. Thus enabling the current and future automobile industry to become more focused on classifying systems that enable services through products or as products i.e. services as products or services after products, instead of a more linear product service system classification, while products become core component instead of a separate entity, eventually becoming a service as a product though. This classification relies upon the business model change involved, the data used, the method of service delivery and the customer demand. (Abstract)
