Academician Alexander Petrovich Lisitzin is an outstanding pioneer scientist in the field of ocean sedimentogenesis, whose works forced to revise the previously prevailing ideas about the patterns of modern and ancient sedimentation in the World Ocean, founder of the School of marine geology in Russia, who worked for more than 70 years at the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The article shows the role of Academician A.P. Lisitzin in the study of sed-imentary matter in the surface layer of the atmosphere, sea ice and icebergs. He began these studies in 1949 and for the first time showed that in the supply of sedimentary matter to the seas and oceans, the contribution of material trans-ported by aeolian way and ice is comparable to the contribution of river runoff outside the marginal filter.

Academician Alexander P. Lisitsyn has developed a theory of biogenic sedimentation and global biofilters in the ocean that became an important part of marine geology and geochemistry. As a follower of Academician V.I. Vernadsky, A.P. Lisitsyn revealed a fundamental role of living matter in formation of the major part of the ocean bottom sediments. This paper presents some data on the trace metal biogeochemistry in the ocean, their bioaccumulation in the global ocean biofilters is quantitively evaluated.

Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky (1863-1945) played an important role in the formation and development of modern Russian mineralogy. From the earliest period of his work to an old age, the problems of mineralogy were in the sphere of his main interests. In particular, he pointed out the importance of the development of mineralogical crystal chemistry (in connection with the penetration of mankind into the secrets of the atomic structure of matter) and technological mineralogy (in view of its importance for the development of the mineral resource base). Thus, Vernadsky's mineralogical work combined interest in the fundamental problems of science and applied issues vital for the development of the state and the national economy.

The article analyses evolution of Vernadsky’s ideas in the field of biogeochemistry, and implementation of these ideas through the Biogeochemical laboratory, and, later – in the laboratory’s successor GEOKHI RAS. The analysis demonstrates high value of Vernadsky’s ideas for basic researches in geochemical ecology and perspective of spatial analysis approach for identification, prevention, and elimination of endemic diseases of geochemical nature.

The article acquaints with the distribution of the outstanding scientist Vladimir Vernadsky to the formation and development of the largest Russian academy of sciences natural science museums. The museums of the new type appeared as a result of Vladimir Vernadsky multiyear work. Two closely related directions of activity: the museum itself and scientific research institute are the base of such museums.

Dmitry Vasilievich Rundkvist worked in the Vernadsky State Geological Museum of RAS from 1993 to 2021. Despite of being overloaded with managerial issues as the museum’s director (1993-2003) and as academician-secretary of the Earth’s Sciences Department of RAS (1996-2003), he had contributed a lot in metallogenic researches. The article describes this period of the Rundqvist’s life, focusing on major results of his metallogenic studies and on their further development in the museum.

Dmitry Vasilievich Rundqvist (1930-2022) is an outstanding Soviet and Russian geologist, mineralogist and metallogenist, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor, President of the Russian Mineralogical Society (1987-2015), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, full member of the Academy of Mining Sciences. He made an important contribution to theoretical geology and metallogeny: he investigated the processes of mineral and ore formation, and analyzed the most general trends in the evolution of mineral formation in geological history. He is credited with developing the structural-material principles for separating, classifying and establishing the ore content of geological formations, and creating a series of specialized metallogenic maps that reflect the main regularities in the distribution of mineral deposits and a quantitative assessment of the predicted resources of promising regions of the USSR. The formation of D.V. Rundqvist as a prominent metallogenist was held at the All-Union Scientific Research Geological Institute (VSEGEI), where he worked for 30 years, rose from junior researcher to deputy director for science. The period of work of D.V. Rundqvist in VSEGEI is dedicated to this essay.
