Cross-layer scheme for WiMAX video streaming WiMAX视频流的跨层方案

A cross-layer approach is applicable to wireless systems and demanding video streaming applications. Sharing the channel state from the physical layer with the application layer allows an adaptive protection scheme to be deployed. Flexible error correction is made possible by rateless coding. To protect against outright packet drops, unequal protection of more important compressed data occurs. The system is evaluated in terms of mean video quality, bitrate, and latency for constant bitrate streaming.

A wide linear range OTA-C filter for bionic ears 一种用于仿生耳的宽线性范围OTA-C滤波器

A programmable OTA-C band-pass filter operating in sub-threshold region for use in bionic ears is presented. Design details together with simulation results are given. The filter has been fabricated using BSIM3v3.2 models from the AMS process for 0.35µm CMOS C35 Technology, and tested experimentally. It operates with ±1.5V supply rails features power consumption of 11.25nW and 546nW for frequency bands (100–200) Hz and (5–10) kHz respectively. The design features an input linear range of ±900mV, with total harmonic distortion < 5% and offers a dynamic range of 65.36dB.

Frequency analysis of path loss models on WIMAX WIMAX中路径损耗模型的频率分析

WIMAX signal throughput and area coverage range are the most important factors that will affect the quality of broadband access services in mobile systems. This paper presents a comprehensive study of frequency analysis for path loss on mobile WIMAX presented to achieve large throughput and wide coverage to a big number of users. In this paper we have calculated the path loss values based on the variation of WIMAX standard frequency in the range of 2 to 6 GHz, and a fixed distance of 5 km from the transmit station to the receive station in urban, suburban, rural and free space environments. The paper discusses and implements Okumura, Hata, Cost-231, Ericsson, Erceg, Walfish, Ecc-33, Lee and the simplified free space path loss models. All the models applied in this paper are used to predict the propagation loss for WIMAX.

Modified twin-core optical tweezer for three-dimensional trapping 用于三维捕获的改进双芯光镊

In this paper a simple and low-cost approach for designing a twin-core optical tweezer, that allows obtaining an all optical 3-D single-fiber tweezers, is presented. In this method that uses fiber-end drilling in a certain angle and coating all-reflective material around the fiber-end with a high refractive index, causes the total reflection of two beam cores at the interface of fiber and medium. Therefore, compared with other methods, it obviously improves the beam focusing on the particles. Simulation results show that it increases far-field distribution on 3-D particles trapping performance.

Evaluation of Classified Cloning Scheme with self-similar traffic 具有自相似流量的分类克隆方案的评价

This paper presents the performance of a proposed QoS provisioning scheme - the Classified Cloning Scheme - when incoming traffic to the OBS network is self-similar. Intensive simulations were conducted using ns-2, after developing new modules for evaluation purposes. The self-similarity of the incoming traffic is depicted via cumulative distribution functions of the inter-arrival time for incoming IP packets under different load scenarios. Results show that the proposed scheme outperforms both standard OBS and the basic cloning scheme, while minimizing delay and jitter. The loss rate improvement over basic cloning and standard OBS is over 60% and 75% respectively. Moreover, the increased load due to classified cloning is considerably lower than that of basic cloning.

Involving the user with low or no vision in the design of an audio-haptic learning environment for learning about 3D shapes: The first approach 让视力低下或没有视力的用户参与设计用于学习3D形状的视听学习环境:第一种方法

This report summarises the current research that is being carried out into haptic sense technology for assisting visual impairment. Moreover, it presents a framework of mechanisms blind students apply to identify basic 3D objects into free space. People with visual impairments are still excluded from accessing certain types of information - like graphics - that are easily accessible by the general public. Today, screen reading software and Braille displays or text-to-speech systems have solved many problems of accessing text. For accessing graphics, and specifically digital graphics, there is to date no standardised technology that is accepted and used by blind people. Especially in school education, access to pictures is almost impossible to master; making teamwork very complicated and thus isolating blind students from their sighted peers making it impossible to acquire a shared understanding of school material. Focusing on geometry, which is believed to be the main theory of space, is very crucial for non-sighted students to develop an accurate spatial sense and reasoning. The emergence of haptic technology and the potential to create interfaces for non-visual audio-haptic interaction opens new promising doors to accessing digital graphics.

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is a relatively new technique that has been frequently applied now a days in cancer pathology including breast cancer. The long term aim of this work is to develop novel techniques using machine learning methods for the analysis of FTIR data sets. This paper presents the preliminary work with a case study of a FTIR data set of breast cancer with two commonly used clustering algorithms of fuzzy c-means and k-means to differentiate between different cancer grades. We also discuss the complexities involved in the analysis of spectral data sets and need to find new methods. Future work will involve efforts towards development of a novel frame work with advanced machine learning methods to extract valuable information from complex spectral data sets

A hybrid re-ranking algorithm based on ontological user profiles 一种基于本体用户画像的混合重排序算法

The rapid expansion of the Internet has caused information overload to such an extent that the process of finding a specific piece of information may often become frustrating and time-consuming for users. In this paper, we present a hybrid personalized search model based on learning ontological user profiles implicitly. The main goal of this paper is to capture interesting and uninteresting web pages from user browsing behaviour. These web pages are stored in user profile under positive and negative documents. We propose a hybrid re-ranking algorithm that is based on the combination of different information resources collected from the reference ontology, user profile and original search engine's ranking. Experiments show that our model offers improved performance over the Google search engine.

In this work the photoconductivity of a p-i-n Ga0.952In0.048N0.016As0.984/GaAs multiple quantum well (MQW) structure is investigated as a function of temperature. At low temperatures step-like increases are observed in the devices I–V characteristic when illuminated with a 950nm wavelength light. The number of visible oscillations varies according to the temperature and incident light intensity with a maximum of 18 being visible. Since the exciting illumination energy is bellow the GaAs bandgap, these oscillations arise only from the GaInNAs quantum wells and can be explained in terms of resonant tunneling from subbands into the adjacent quantum well.

Modelling the trading behaviour in high-frequency markets 对高频市场的交易行为进行建模

We use an agent-based approach to model trading behaviour in high-frequency markets. This study focuses on the Foreign Exchange (FX) market. The initial part of this study is to observe the micro-behaviour of traders to define the stylized facts of their trading activities. This is performed using a high-frequency dataset of anonymised individual traders' historical transactions on an account level, provided by OANDA Ltd. This dataset is considered to be the biggest available high-frequency dataset dealing with the individual FX market traders' trading activities. The second step is to build agent-based models of traders. The traders are modelled to respond to physical time to account for the different market seasonalities. The key elements in modeling the traders are zero-intelligence directional-change events trading strategy, historical prices, actual FX market traders' behaviour, limit orders, FX market trading sessions and market holidays. Using the identified stylized facts of FX market trading activity, we evaluate the trading agents' collective trading behaviour. The results of this comparison indicate that the trading agents' collective trading behaviour resembles, to a certain extent, the collective trading behaviour of FX market traders.
