User generated contents on web and social media grow rapidly in this emerging information age. Social media provides a platform for people to create contents, share them and bookmark them in a tremendous way. The exponential growth of social media arouses much attention on the use of public opinion to make better decisions about a particular product or person or service. The social media like online forums, Twitter, Facebook, blogs and microblogs are proving to be extremely valuable resources for anticipating, detecting and forecasting significant societal events. It provides a lot of opportunities for users to voice their opinions openly. The analysis of sentiments obtained through social media along with wisdom of crowds can automatically compute the collective intelligence of future performance in many areas like stock trend forecasting, box office sales, hot topic detection, election outcomes and so on. The proposed research aims to perform forecasting based on user sentiments in social media regarding hotspots and stock forecasting.

This research paper examines the relationship between the pressure perceived by the respondents, their body image investment practices and dieting habits. Extreme dieting may result in eating disorders; hence, this study attempts to investigate the impact of advertisements on their perception and attitude towards dieting. The sample size of this study is 915 women in Chennai the capital of Tamilnadu state in India. The results of this study indicate that around 30% of women are impacted by advertisements. Further, the results also indicate that the respondents overestimate their present body size and wish to have a thinner body which they aim to achieve through dieting. The results of the study support the theory that, advertisements without doubt have an influence on the body dissatisfaction and that dieting is an important practice to boost body imaging.

‘No One Killed Jessica’ marked a new beginning for representation of women in contemporary Hindi Cinema. It depicts one of the most high profile crimes in capital of India. Despite instances of voyeurism and cross-gender performity issues, the film emerges as a strong example of feminist cinema managing to keep itself free from gender stereotypes. Perhaps this film is a departure from the mainstream Hindi cinema. Mulvey's contention regarding the representation of women as ‘a carrier of the meaning rather than making the meaning’ proved to be true in the mainstream Indian cinema. But in this film it seems that women are represented as a maker rather than carrier of meaning. The film makes an effort to conscientise the audiences on gender sensitivity and establishes itself as a promising endevour towards a better representation of gender in contemporary Hindi cinema. It further encourages mood for Bollywood to welcome women oriented films.

Cinema as a motion picture medium with proper sound effects has the potential to provide maximum entertainment value to the audience. Story narratives are one of the key elements in the success of any movie and violence in different forms play important roles in completing the story and its impact. Socio-economic, political and cultural changes as well as developments in the field of science and technology have changed the world and the lifestyle of people in numerous ways, in the last 50 years. If cinema reproduces human society and its virtues through the stories, how much of these changes get reflected in the cinema? Has the cinema changed substantially during this period? The assumption of this study is that the changes should be mirrored in the story including the depiction of violence in the movies. It explores the differences in sketching the resolution of violence and vulnerability in the 3rd act of movies by analyzing selected movies of the last 50 years. Selection of sample is done from the Malayalam movies those which received the Kerala State award. The study analyses the presence of violence in the three different ‘Acts ’of the movie narratives and use of violence as a resolution.

The internet has evolved into an indispensable tool in virtually all aspects of human activities. The educational system has experienced rapid transformation since the development of internet. Research, documentation, and teaching have been simplified as a result of ICT revolution. In order to keep pace with global developments, most Nigerian universities have integrated the use of ICT in the conduct of academic activities. However, most of these internet facilities are not producing the desired result to help the students in their academic work. Hence, this study explores to find out the challenges undergraduates students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, faced in accessing internet services. The study is anchored on the uses and gratification theory which argues that media audience derived pleasure in using a particular media to satisfy their immediate need. The research adopted survey method as its research design and the questionnaire to elicit information from the respondents. The study was guided by four research questions. Findings indicated that even though respondents have relative access to the internet, they are often constrain by frequent power outages, network failure, lack of availability of computer systems and lack of ICT knowledge. The study among other things recommends that the university management should upgrade the internet facilities within the school premises.

Television advertising has a vital role and significant influence on consumer behavior. With steady increase of private TV channels in Bangladesh, effectiveness of advertisements has become a prime concern to the advertisers as they have to pay a lot of money to broadcast their adverts. The main objective of this study is to analyze how much impact TV advertising has on brand preferences of women consumers regarding food products in the context of household decision making. Data was collected using convenient sampling method (N=160) through a self-administered questionnaire in Chittagong city, the commercial capital and second largest city in Bangladesh. Results of the correlation analysis revealed that there is a significant positive correlation between level of attention while viewing TV advertisement and informing, selecting, purchasing and even switching to a particular brand of food products. This study supports the effectiveness of TV advertising, and the power of television viewing as well on behavioral factors.

Networking is given lot of importance in today's world for building strong relationship between individuals and groups. Reach of social media is cutting across all demographic and geographic boundaries which help in reaching out to the unknown. This paper discusses the various patterns of social networking usage by different age groups in the Northern region of Goa state in India. The study explores the purpose, method, frequency, time duration, importance of profile pictures and, the status. This study majorly focuses on social platforms i.e. Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, LinkedIn and Instagram. Parents are observed to be engaged in children viewing television with mediation styles used at home. The objective of this study is to examine the various mediation styles (active mediation, restrictive mediation, co-viewing) adopted by parents in their children television watching and to understand parental mediation styles among children. For the purpose of this study, data were gathered from the parents of school children from Coimbatore (n=206) in a total sample size of 206 respondents. Respondents were asked to answer questions in a survey. The responses were analyzed to study the mediation adopted between three styles active mediation, restrictive mediation, and co-viewing with the parental demographic characteristics and children details. The findings of the study revealed that there is significant influence between parent’s gender and the family type. In the preference among various mediation styles across the age group of children and gender the mostly preferred mediation style is Restrictive Mediation i.e. Active Mediation and Co-viewing.

It can be argued that playing video games is the most popular and satisfying form of entertainment in today's technological age. Almost everything that could be experienced in real life has been simulated in a visually appealing video game that can be either purchased online or at the local mart with ease. But there is a dilemma between playing violent video games and the negative consequences that may potentially impact society. Even if it can be argued that playing violent video games has no effect on biological or psychological behaviour, that still will not win a philosophical argument on how a civilized society could possibly enjoy celebration of virtual bloodlust. To some researchers, the problem in ultra-violent video games stems from the fact that it simulates a crime. But with today's “super” technologies, where the lines of realism are limited only by the hardware capabilities of video game consoles, reality can get blurry, and no one can be blamed for getting immersed in such a virtual environment. Wrong acts, whether simulated or real, can “erode” the value of morality as a measure. When the wrong actions and acts of a society become socially acceptable, even in tcontext of a harmless, virtual simulation, the standards and morals of a society get “devalued”. On the other hand, some of the researches argue that such video games provide a test bed on educating and evaluating the principles of morality. In this paper, there is no intention to prove that violent video games have an effect on psychological or biological behaviour, but rather to shed some light on the morality of violent video games, from both the criticizing and the defending groups of researchers.
