A hand gesture recognition based communication system for silent speakers 基于手势识别的无声扬声器通信系统

In this paper, a communication system has been proposed which converts sign language used by dumb people into speech. It is done based on the novel hand gesture recognition technique. This solution approach consists of a hardware module and software application. In hardware module - The Gesture recognition is done with the help of sensor glove which consists of 5 accelerometer sensors, a microcontroller and Bluetooth chip which are best positioned in fingers, based on the analysis of American Sign Language (ASL) signs. The design of glove and the concept of decoding gestures by considering the axis orientation with respect to gravity and their corresponding voltage levels are discussed. In Software part - an android application named Speaking gestures have been developed. It receives the data (alphabet/word) via Bluetooth, converts them into text and speaks it out. The entire process of speech synthesis has been tested and the test results displaying the alphabets and words have been shown.

Avi sort algorithm Avi排序算法

In the case of rearranging an array with N elements either in ascending or in descending order. We find that, sorting algorithms such as the Bubble, Insertion and Selection Sort have a quadratic time complexity. In this paper, we introduce Avi sort - a new algorithm to sort an N elements array by exchanging their specific alternate position. We evaluate time complexity O(N2) of Avi sort theoretically and empirically. Our results show a one more different way to sort the data elements in quadratic time complexity and experimentally prove its actual time lies in between insertion and selection sort.

A novel approach for human-machine interaction using hand gesture 一种利用手势进行人机交互的新方法

Human machine interaction is a rapidly developing field. Hand gestures are used to interact with the machine; this makes the human machine interaction very interesting and intuitive. Several devices have been developed in the past using the camera for recognizing hand gestures and communicating with the machine. In this paper we have proposed a new system called hand gesture recognition (HGR) to overcome the use of camera which has several disadvantages like lighting, making proper hand movements before camera, operating in less range. The universal control unit may be as a form of wearable one. A Kalman filtering approach is proposed for stable displacement estimation and waveband classification of the measured acceleration. With the sensors placed in the form of watch or band on our hand, any motion made by the hand will be detected by these sensors and relayed to a control unit to take the required actions. The estimated results are compared with those of a commercial geometry measurement.

Influence of local ‘language’ in data entry errors: A pilot study in the rural Indian setting 当地“语言”对数据输入错误的影响:在印度农村地区进行的一项试点研究

The paper discusses issues related to human computer interaction errors due to the factor of local language primacy. It is posited that more errors are reported when a language that is not the local or mother tongue is used for data entry. Data entry is a means of lively hood for many rural based service providers [11]. The results of this experiment reported in this paper are expected to influence the design of the interfaces for rural based IT work force that is predominantly educated in the mother tongue. A pilot study was conducted using an experimental interface designed to test the frequency of errors in English and local language (Marathi or Assamese) number data entry. Subjects from rural India were given a task to perform. The task involved use of a calculator which was specifically designed for this experiment. Computer based background recording of the data input enabled collection of the speed of input and errors thereof. The results show three findings: first, use of local language for number data entry by rural users produces more accurate results, second the rural users make significantly more errors in limited time given for number data entry and the different local languages affects the error rate.

A feasibility study for developing an emotional control system through brain computer interface 基于脑机接口的情绪控制系统的可行性研究

A Brain Computer Interface (BCI) is a direct communication channel between a human brain and an outside environment. Through this interface, users' can send their messages or commands without any muscle movement, but through the thought process. Electroencephalogram (EEG) is used to measure the brain response which is generated by billions of nerve cells called neurons. This EEG activity is recorded through electrodes placed on the scalp. EEG signals are conventionally categorized into different rhythms based on their frequencies ranging from less than 0.5 Hz to above 30 Hz categorized as Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma waves. The main objectives of BCI systems are to translate the brain signals into control signals and use them to control activities on particular application domain. The objective of this paper is to study the feasibility of developing a BCI system for recognizing and controlling the stress level of a person. The emotional level of the subject will be recognized based on the brain EEG signals captured and analyzed through the Valence-Arousal model. Further, based on the emotional status of the person, corresponding music shall be played to reduce the stress level of a person, thereby controlling the emotional level of the subject. Experiments have been carried out in the Brain Computer Interface Research Lab and the results show a significant feasibility in developing an emotional control system.

Self adaptive firefly based transmission loss minimization algorithm for SVC placement 基于自适应萤火虫的SVC传输损耗最小化算法

This paper presents a new strategy for optimally placing Static Var Compensator (SVC) in power systems with a view to minimize the transmission loss. The proposed strategy uses Self Adaptive Firefly Algorithm (SAFA) and identifies the optimal locations for SVC placement and their parameter. The SVC placement strategy is applied on two IEEE test systems and their results are presented to demonstrate its effectiveness.

What is the difference between experiencing the game and what comes out a discussion about it? How far goes the rationality of the user? What is his responsibility in his blunders, and what should be considered as a consequence fate? All these topics are tackled by Lacan, and the psychologists of psychoanalysis, and we may apply the findings of his school of thought to game design and HCI. Stephane Donikian believes that we need to go further within language as we consider the user, and Lacan happens to be the most appropriate to that task Others schools could be closer to the Wittgensteinian views as in Hutto, and consider the user as a game theory player, while we want to show that they are wrong: the experience of HCI is hard to speak of we lack the words, and it varies greatly from person to person. Computers are rational machines while humans are not. Cognitive science has tried to find ways that are below language, while Lacan searches the subject in language. Hence telling the story of an HCI experience is more of a matter of a narrative event and contrasts with the unspeakable reality of the interaction. We used the concepts of symbolization and reality to discuss what is within human grasp in the experience, and what remains too far from our reach.

A study on leg posture recognition from Indian classical dance using Kinect sensor 基于Kinect传感器的印度古典舞腿部姿势识别研究

This paper proposes a simple yet a novel technique to recognize leg postures in Indian classical dance by making use of a Kinect sensor. The sensor device has the ability to track the skeleton of the subject with the help of a visible camera and an IR camera coupled to an IR laser and diffraction grating. Twenty five leg postures from `Odissi', an Indian Classical dance have been used for the evaluation our proposed algorithm. This methodology extracts eight features, which in turn can be categorized under three levels of symmetry viz. the vertical symmetry, the horizontal symmetry and the angular symmetry. Finally a similarity function is devised which is the basis of the leg posture recognition technique. This method provides better human computer interaction and also aims at spreading the dance form for e-learning purpose. The proposed algorithm can be applied for any dance form for leg posture recognition purposes. It gives 86.75% accuracy with five subjects.

In India and other countries, the advertisement in public transport system completely runs on pen-paper work. Advertisement in these public transport is not managed which leads to a great loss to government when it comes to earning from these advertisements. Advertising is of the much talked tool which can bring the advertiser and make him reach to the customer when the customer is most likely to buy or adopt it. The advertising will be directed towards the passengers in transport vehicles. Advertising in transport vehicles will make more sense when delivered through media (LCD or running display etc.) on location base, request of advertising company. Location based advertising on integrated displays in public transport system has great potential. Passengers are normally bored when they ride a public transport system (metro, bus, tram, etc.) so they are to open general interest information and location based advertising.

Mobile computing based technique for harmonics measurements in electrical network and analysis 基于移动计算的电网谐波测量与分析技术

This paper illustrates a novice method of measurement of harmonics from numeric meters installed at substations and consumers situated at remote end and its processing on smart phone. The main benefit of this method is saving in time required for visiting electrical installations for measurement of harmonics. Harmonics are the integer multiple of the fundamental frequency of mainly current and voltage. In India the fundamental frequency is 50 Hz. High order harmonics are generated by the non-linear loads such as computers, ac drives, dc drives, inverters, home protectors etc. In short, harmonics are generated when electricity is controlled by electronics. The high order harmonics have detrimental effects such as overheating and failure of electrical equipments, erroneous meter readings, failure of capacitor banks, undue tripping of transformers and transmission lines etc. The problem of harmonics can be tackled by installing harmonic filters for which the detailed analysis of harmonics is required to be carried out. In order to conduct harmonic analysis, it is required to measure harmonics of current, voltage and power in the system. The numeric meter sends data to the web server of Central Monitoring System either through internet or through PLCC/OFC links. The web server is connected to GSM Network through which the data is received by the smart phone. This data is processed and analyzed by the source code available in smart phone. For this purpose, relevant compilers can be installed in the smart phone.
