The threat of devastating forest (cid:28)res has increased signi(cid:28)cantly in recent years. Even in Central Europe, the use of air vehicles for (cid:28)re(cid:28)ghting is necessary. In this paper, a helicopter/support helicopter con(cid:28)guration was developed that is designed for this type of operation. In the following, the power requirements as well as the water absorption and release are discussed. In addition, this paper highlights points related to (cid:29)ight stability, such as the design of the tailplane, as well as the shift of the centre of gravity during (cid:29)ight. Furthermore, a (cid:29)eet concept and its e(cid:30)ciency is presented, as well as various deployment scenarios. In various calculations, attention is paid to either the helicopter or the gyroplane con(cid:28)guration.

If a differential operator $D$ on a smooth Hermitian vector bundle $S$ over a compact manifold $M$ is symmetric, it is essentially self-adjoint and so admits the use of functional calculus. If $D$ is also elliptic, then the Hilbert space of square integrable sections of $S$ with the canonical left $C(M)$-action and the operator $chi(D)$ for $chi$ a normalizing function is a Fredholm module, and its $K$-homology class is independent of $chi$. In this expository article, we provide a detailed proof of this fact following the outline in the book "Analytic K-homology" by Higson and Roe.
