Spectrum Sharing for WINNER Radio Access Networks WINNER无线接入网络的频谱共享

This paper presents the concept of spectrum sharing in connection to beyond 3rd generation (B3G) systems. Inter-system spectrum sharing mechanisms are summarised and classified depending on their coordination capabilities and the relative priorities between the systems involved in the sharing. Novel radio resource management (RRM) functionalities for coordinating the sharing of the spectrum with legacy systems and other B3G radio access networks (RANs) are outlined to permit the efficient implementation of spectrum sharing. These B3G spectrum sharing RRM functionalities are proposed in the context of the European IST WINNER project. Capabilities to share spectrum with other radio access systems will significantly increase the efficiency of the WINNER system as well as the compatibility with legacy systems. The RRM architecture enables WINNER systems to benefit from the most important aspects of the envisioned spectrum sharing. Spectrum sharing provides the WINNER system with new spectrum access possibilities, facilitating flexible deployment, usage and a gradual evolution of the system in coexistence with legacy systems

Coexistence Issues in Cognitive Radios Based on Ultra-Wide Bandwidth Systems 基于超宽带系统的认知无线电共存问题

In this paper we discuss the basic concepts underlying cognitive radio (CR) and investigate the ultra wide bandwidth (UWB) technology as one of the enabling transmission techniques for the implementation of CR systems. Firstly, we propose an analytical methodology to assess the interference impact and coexistence issues between narrowband (NB) and UWB communication systems in a realistic scenario. Then, based on this methodology we show the great potential of the UWB technology in adapting the transmitted spectrum to counteract NB interference and at the same time to guarantee low spectral emissions over existing narrowband communications

In this contribution, we analyse the performance limits of a multiband frequency fading channels when perfect channel state information is available at the transmitter (CSIT). For various power allocation (RA) schemes such as water-filling, channel inversion and Haye's policy, we derive optimal constant-rate coding schemes that minimizes the information outage probability and show the potential gain of such techniques with respect to classical uniform power allocation

The current regulatory outlook indicates the need for some Detect and Avoid (DAA) mechanism aimed at mitigating the effects of UWB interference on incumbent radio services. This paper presents a revised method for increasing the notch depth at an MB-OFDM WiMedia PHY transmitter operating under DAA guidelines in the presence of protected in-band services.

On the Coexistence of Infrastructure-Based and Ad Hoc Connections for a Cognitive Radio System 认知无线电系统中基于基础设施和自组织连接共存的研究

Cognitive radio (CR) can sense the current spectrum usage of existing networks and make intelligent decisions on the opportunity of reusing the frequency spectrum. One fundamental issue for the CR system is how to rapidly establish a temporary communication link on the spectrum of the exiting users. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility issue of establishing both an infrastructure-based link and an ad hoc link using the same spectrum simultaneously in an overlapped area. We also present a cross-layer performance analysis from both the physical (PHY) layer and medium access control (MAC) layer perspectives. The analytical results show that the probability that both an infrastructure-based connection and an ad hoc link coexist in an overlapping area can be as high as 45%. In addition the normalized total throughput of the both links is more than 145% compared to the pure infrastructure-based link. However, considering the shadowing effects, the transmission reliability varies from 30% ~ 90% depending on the locations of mobile stations

Credit Token based Rental Protocol for Dynamic Channel Allocation 基于信用令牌的动态信道分配租赁协议

This paper describes a distributed, cooperative and real time rental protocol for DCA operations in a multi system and multi cell context for OFDMA systems. A credit token based rental protocol using auctioning is proposed in support of dynamic spectrum sharing between cells. The proposed scheme can be tuned adaptively as a function of the context by specifying the credit tokens usage in the radio etiquette. The application of the rental protocol is illustrated with an ascending bid auctioning. The paper also describes two approaches for BS-BS communications in support of the rental protocol. Finally, it is described how the proposed mechanisms contribute to the current approaches followed in the IEEE 802.16h and IEEE 802.22 standards efforts addressing cognitive radio

Performance of the OFDM-based Transform Domain Communication System in Cognitive Radio contexts 认知无线电环境下基于ofdm的变换域通信系统性能研究

In this paper, performance in term of BER of the OFDM-based TDCS is investigated in realistic CR contexts. According to the analyses and simulation results, it is observed that the OFDM-based TDCS operates better in random spectrum availability contexts than in continuous spectrum availability ones. Geometrical explanations are provided to give some insights to this phenomenon. Based on the explications, a new interleaved OFDM-based TDCS is proposed. Computer simulation results verify that the new proposal outperforms the OFDM-based TDCS without an interleaver, especially in the scenario where the percentage of available spectrum is rather low

The spectrum data-mining and agile air interface requirements of cognitive radios claim for software-defined-radio (SDR) implementations. The need to detect and/or generate virtually any kind of waveform in any band pushes the specification of such SDR to the limit. This makes cost-effective and energy-efficient implementation very challenging. As a first step toward effective embedded cognitive radio, we present the design, based on a top-down methodology, of a scalable SDR platform that enables spectrum environment awareness and reactive transmission. Hardware cost and energy-efficiency are contended by opportunistic partitioning and aggressive power management leading to 10 mW-range standby power and 100 mW-range active power

Implementation Issues of A Wideband Multi-Resolution Spectrum Sensing (MRSS) Technique for Cognitlve Radio (CR) Systems 认知无线电(CR)系统中宽带多分辨率频谱感知(MRSS)技术的实现问题

Spectrum sensing is a key function for a cognitive radio (CR) system. An analog-based multi-resolution spectrum sensing (MRSS) technique was proposed as a flexible, low-power, high-speed spectrum-sensing solution. In this paper, implementation issues of the MRSS technique are investigated, and the corresponding practical specifications are suggested. First, nonlinear effects from a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and multipliers are explored. System simulation results show that harmonic distortion components of VCO and wavelet-pulse power levels should be controlled to alleviate these nonlinear effects. Afterward, I/Q phase- and gain-mismatch effects ore addressed. Specifically, narrow-band signals are more sensitive to these gain and phase mismatches compared to broadband digital modulated signals. Overall, phase mismatch is more sensitive than gain mismatch on MRSS performance, showing a linear degradation of a detected power-level up to a 60-degree phase-mismatch
