Teacher Accountability for Teacher Occupational Professionalism: The Effect of Accountability on Occupational Awareness with the Mediating Roles of Contribution to Organization, Emotional Labor and Personal Development 教师问责对教师职业专业化的影响:问责对职业意识的影响:组织贡献、情绪劳动和个人发展的中介作用

Accountability enables teachers to exhibit professional behaviors in school processes. However, the contribution of accountability to teacher occupational professionalism depends on the effective structuring of accountability mechanisms. It is necessary to examine how the connection between teacher occupational professionalism and accountability can be effectively established in line with different conceptual models. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between teacher accountability and occupational professionalism by analyzing a proposed conceptual model of accountability and occupational professionalism dimensions. The first step for effective accountability mechanisms is to raise occupational awareness. Therefore, the effect of teacher accountability on teacher occupational awareness, which is one of the components of occupational professionalism, was examined with the mediating roles of contribution to organization, emotional labor and personal development dimensions of occupational professionalism. Employing correlational research design, the study sample included 576 middle school teachers from Gaziantep province in the southeast of Turkey. The study revealed that contribution to organization and emotional labor play a partially mediating role in the relationship between accountability and occupational awareness. However, teacher personal development has no mediating role. The results present a framework to develop teacher personal accountability supporting teacher occupational professionalism.

Understanding the educational environment and effectively regulating it in consistent with educational objectives is an important factor in facilitating teaching and a crucial ability for the teachers. Investigating the perception of 12 classroom teachers at four elementary schools about their classroom environment, this study aims to reveal the situation about their classroom environment, its effects, and the desired classroom environment in terms of the functions of the classroom environment. Two analytical frameworks, Classroom Functions Theory as well as Environmental Competence, are means to understand this topic. A semi-structured interview form and an observation form were used as data collection instruments. In the study, it was observed that the majority of teachers were able to evaluate the classroom environment, but they remained unsolved about how the classroom can be designed better. Besides, the teachers stated that their classroom environments performed social, symbolic identity, and task instrumentality functions in a limited way for various reasons while largely functioning the shelter and security. Finally, the teachers emphasized that their classes did not fulfill growth and pleasure functions and that most of their desires about the classroom environment were related to these functions.

Burnout Syndrome and Dark Triad at Schools: Engineers as Teachers of Vocational Technical Subjects 职业倦怠症候群与学校黑暗人格:作为职业技术学科教师的工程师

The aim of the present study was to verify the relationship of three aversive personality traits - Machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy, nowadays known by experts as the Dark Triad and burnout syndrome on the sample of vocational technical subject teachers. The study was carried out on a sample of 241 participants (Mage = 44.53; SD = 10.29). Females represented 75.1% of all respondents (Mage = 44.48; SD = 10.02), males represented the remaining 24.9% of respondents (Mage = 42.36; SD = 11.8). The Slovak version of Short Dark Triad - SD3 and the adapted Slovak version of Maslach Burnout Inventory - HSS on the sample of helping professionals were administered. Significant positive relations of the Dark Triad traits with emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal satisfaction were identified. Regression analysis indicated the Dark Triad as a significant predictor of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, psychopathy was the most significant predictor. The Dark Triad concept predicted 58% of burnout syndrome’s variance.

Antecedents of private university students’ satisfaction: The effects of traditional and electronic service quality 民办高校学生满意度的前因:传统与电子服务质量的影响

High competition in the higher education sector, especially private universities, has brought a high attention to service quality that can increase students’ satisfaction and their retention rates. This study aimed to investigate the effect of traditional and electronic service quality of private universities in Jakarta on students’ satisfaction. A total of 151 students’ responses from three private universities in Jakarta were collected. A factor analysis with the Principal Component Analysis method with Varimax rotation, Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Importance Performance Map Analysis (IPMA) were performed. The results proved that perceived value of traditional service quality and perceived web value significantly affected student satisfaction. The three indicators of perceived quality provided by administrative staff (b=0.198), perceived quality of university infrastructure (β=0.333), and perceived quality of support services (β=0.362) significantly affected students’ satisfaction while in the context of electronic service quality, only accessibility (β=0.469) and attractiveness (β=0.123) had significant effects on students’ satisfaction. Furthermore, the two-dimensional IPMA matrix indicated the dominance of importance (score=0.621) and performance (score=66.438) of perceived value over the perceived web value.

Reporting Verbs and Related Syntactic Choices in Students' Theses: A Study of Two Disciplines 学生论文中的转述动词及相关句法选择:两个学科的研究

Adopting Hyland's (2002) framework of reporting words (RVs), the paper investigates the use of RVs in Master's theses written in English by students of two disciplines, Economics and Management and Natural Resources. The data were drawn from two sub-corpora, each consisting of 82 Literature Reviews, where other authors' research is summarised and commented on. Besides determining the most frequent communicative functions, in this paper, the RVs are further analysed in terms of the verb tense, voice, and subject-agent. The findings revealed significant differences between the two disciplines. In the former, most RVs were in the present active with named-author as the subject, conveying a neutral attitude towards the reported message and neutrally summarising previous research outcomes. Most RVs were in the past tense in the latter, reporting on past research procedures or outcomes. The findings reveal infrequent use of evaluative or critical verbs. Each discipline's predominant choice may suggest writers' lower ability to highlight the cited sources' direct relevance to their research. The study hopes to contribute to the efficacy of teaching English for Academic Purposes to non-native speakers. It has pedagogical implications for academic writing in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at non-philological tertiary education institutions.

Promoting Effects of Abilities While Enhancing Probability of College-Success: A Moderation Role of Higher Education 能力提升与大学成功机率:高等教育的调节作用

Studies revealed that college readiness promotes college success and higher education student learning outcomes. This study opted to 1) analyze the total effect and the conditional effect of college readiness on college success by university generations and departments; 2) analyze the differences in the probability of college success across departments and university generations; 3) describe the quality of university generations in terms of the conditional effects and the probabilities of college success. The study is an ex post facto research. The Ethiopian 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation universities; and the Ethiopian National Assessment and Evaluation Agency officers were the population of the study. The total sample size was 551. The Ethiopian General Education School Leaving Certificate Examination Grade Point Average, the Ethiopian Higher Education Entrance Examination score, and the College Cumulative Grade Point Average of the students were sources of the data. Using the Process Procedure for Software Package for Social Sciences, the binomial logistic regression was conducted. Maintaining the highest total conditional effect of college readiness on college success while heightening the probability of college success at a value of college readiness has been interpreted as a trait of the high performing university generation.

From F2F to ERT: University Students’ Perception of Remote Learning During the First COVID-19 Lockdown 从F2F到ERT:第一次COVID-19封锁期间大学生对远程学习的看法

In the spring of 2020, the University of South Bohemia was one of the innumerable higher education institutions which was obliged to move its instruction online in order to comply with the COVID-19 regulations. This article explores the evaluation of emergency remote teaching (ERT) measures taken by the English department from the perspective of its students. It presents and discusses findings gathered from a questionnaire completed by 99 respondents. The questionnaire centres around four areas of interest: satisfaction with ERT, comparison of face-to-face (F2F) vs. online learning experiences, perceived stress level during ERT, and acquisition of skills. The results show how students responded to the emergency procedures and which factors they considered essential in terms of satisfaction and stress. Furthermore, they reveal thought-provoking insights on aspects such as integrating elements of online teaching into F2F instruction, developing various skills in lockdown, and motivation for learning. Our findings are analysed in terms of aspects and factors which are viewed as efficient or inefficient by students in a time of crisis. Thus, this research may contribute not only to better preparedness should circumstances requiring ERT return, but also to a more complex re-evaluation of instructional approach at university level.

Students Preferences in Teaching Methods of Entrepreneurship Education 学生对创业教育教学方法的偏好

Entrepreneurial education (EE) has recently become popular at universities of economics almost all over the world. Various teaching methods play a very important role in the development of the future entrepreneurs. Therefore, in order for a student to become a successful entrepreneur, it is important to find the most effective tool for the teachers to support entrepreneurship education and find the ideal connection between the needs of the students and the right choice of a teaching method. There is a large gap between the needs of the business environment and university studies of this area. The research is based on 214 questionnaires, which were filled in by the students of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice in 2018-2019. The aim of the paper is to find and analyse the preferences of teaching methods for students of management based on the following criteria: gender, faculty, degree of study. The students expected to be taught by active methods, e.g. experts lectures and business simulators. Differences in the use of teaching methods were the most evident among students from different faculties.

Computational Self-Efficacy and Information Skills in Postgraduate Students in Administration at the Times of Covid-19 新冠肺炎疫情下管理专业研究生计算自我效能感与信息技能

The objective of the research was to analyze the levels of computational self-efficacy and information skills in postgraduate students in administration at the time of COVID-19 with the aim of determining their relationship in academic performance. The type of study was a quantitative investigation with a correlational scope. The students were the graduate students in administration. The instruments used were two specific questionnaires with a Likert scale of five points each. The main results indicate that, during confinement, students had a frequency of using the laptop for three or more hours with a fixed connection. The level of their computational self-efficacy had an average of 4.55, which is interpreted as a high level where women were valued to a greater extent; while the level of information skills was 4.00 on average, which implies that, almost always, the participants carry out actions aimed at fulfilling the need for information they need to continue their distance educational process during the confinement, regularly using search, use and organization strategies, as well as the evaluation of information sources.

Volunteering of Czech College Students – Experience and Motivation 捷克大学生的志愿服务——经验与动机

Volunteering is an activity that enables the development of an individual’s competency and is also an area of interest both of society and the academic community. This article aims to compare the motivation for volunteering and the experience of volunteering with students within helping professions and economics. For the purpose of this research, a questionnaire about volunteering was compiled. The article presents the research results into volunteering of Czech students of economic and non-economic study programmes of the College of Polytechnics Jihlava (n = 282). According to the results, the field of study and the frequency of volunteering depend on each other. Students’ gender and the frequency of volunteering do not depend on each other; neither do the study field and the volunteering experience. The biggest motivations for volunteering are feeling useful, gaining new experience and skills. On the other hand, the lack of time and information (ignorance) are perceived as limitations. The study provides an opportunity for developing more guidelines in promoting volunteering activities within the young population and society as a whole.
