Trainees’ Needs in Higher Diploma Program Training Module Evaluation: A case study of English Language Teachers 高级文凭课程培训模块评估中的学员需求:以英语教师为例

This study attempted to determine ELT trainees’ needs in Higher Diploma Program (HDP) module evaluation, and assess the overall pedagogical value of the training module to teachers at higher education. The study applied qualitative case study design by purposively selecting six English language teachers completed HDP training from Arba Minch University. E-mail interview and module evaluation checklist were tools used for data collection. The data was analyzed based on themes in the interview and the contents in the rubric with the level of quality stated in the scale. The results revealed that the training material did not fit for all trainees equally. Though trainees were different in their knowledge bases, the enhancement of HDP training module content for some knowledge bases was adequate. Furthermore, the training material helped trainees to develop their pedagogical skills in the field-based study. However, the topics and contents were not subject area specific, and some activities were weak to promote interaction. For the well-designed activities, their applicability in addressing for diverse audience was poor. Furthermore, the material was not designed in line with the scientific research findings, lacks additional resources to support training and no instruction was indicated to adapt it for various classrooms’ learning environments. From the English Language teachers’ viewpoints, it was concluded that training and training material have to be designed according to particular discipline’s needs. Limitations, recommendations and implications for future research areas were indicated.

The Effectiveness of Mentoring in ELT Context 英语教学背景下师徒关系的有效性

In their beginning stages of learning, the teachers require more practical ideas on how to choose and behave effectively to be a successful teacher. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of mentoring as a tool for aiding teachers’ development and teacher’s portfolio assessment of the teaching skills of Iranian ELT teachers. Classroom observation via a checklist and an interview was used to examine the effectiveness of mentoring in the Iranian ELT context. The findings indicated the effectiveness of mentoring in teachers' teaching skills and some of its shortcomings.

Cyberbullying as a Threat to Young 网络欺凌对青少年的威胁

The issue of cybercrime and other anti-social activities is increasingly discussed today. The cause is an increasing number of individuals, companies or states exposed to these threats. This article deals with the issue of cyber aggression as one of the kinds of other anti-social activities. The article presents the results of researches in the Slovak Republic, but also the results of a survey at selected schools conducted by the Faculty of Safety Engineering of the University of Zilina. The main aim of the article is to point out the issue of cybercrime and other antisocial activities among adolescents and to point out the relationship between their education and vulnerability.

The Second Generation of Gods: How to Deal with a CLIL Didactic Unit 第二代神:如何处理CLIL教学单元

Learning English is a fundamental requirement for the development of our students in the globalized world in which we live. Probably, the traditional methodology regarding to the teaching of foreign languages suffers, in some cases, a communicative component attractive enough to get the students to improve their competence in linguistic communication. That is why we propose the design of a didactic unit that uses the CLIL methodology, through the integration of language and content, to contribute not only to improve the foreign language, but also to reinforce content and cognitive skills. Activities are proposed with different execution patterns, from the 4Cs and progressively increasing the dif(cid:976)iculty, both cognitive and linguistic level.
