Aim: Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) is the most widely used acute mechanical circulatory support device in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). The objectives of the study were to assess the clinical outcomes, risk factors, and variables predictive of in-hospital mortality in these patients. Materials and Methods: Retrospective analysis of the medical records of all the 96 patients who underwent isolated on-pump CABG with IABP inserted during the period from January 2016 to January 2020 in a selected tertiary care center. The risk factors and variables predictive of in-hospital mortality were analyzed. Results: The mean age of participants was 64 ± 7.9 years. In-hospital mortality occurred in 28.2% of study subjects. Those who were hypertensive (P = 0.012, OR = 5.85, 95%CI – 1.27–26.93), pre-operative renal insufficiency (P = 0.02, OR=2.83, 95% CI – 1.12–7.12), developed new-onset atrial and or ventricular arrhythmia(P < 0.001, OR = 31.87, 95%CI - 4.09–248.28), post-operative renal insufficiency(P < 0.001, OR = 6.72, 95% CI – 2.51–18.02), and thromboembolic events (P = 0.006, OR = 6.28, 95% CI – 2.51–18.02) had a higher odds of in-hospital mortality which was statistically significant. The variables predictive of in-hospital mortality were hypertension (Adjusted OR – 7.12, 95% CI – 1.25–40.38), occurrence of new-onset arrhythmia (Adjusted OR – 22.08, 95% CI 2.54–190.48), post-operative renal insufficiency (Adjusted OR – 7.38, 95% CI – 2.17–25.09), and thromboembolic events (Adjusted OR – 2.08, 95% CI – 0.33–12.83). Conclusion: Patients requiring IABP support belong to a high-risk group with significant risk of early post-operative mortality. Assessment and understanding of patient and clinical factors affecting outcomes should be one of the core nursing responsibilities in caring these patients.

The patient will experience stress before undergoing any form of surgery. The fact that the heart is such an essential organ results in an increase in the amount of stress experienced. Some patients may experience feelings of helplessness, insecurity, and isolation as a response to the inconvenience, distress, and anxiety brought on by their stitches breaking. The all-encompassing pre-operative education can contribute to a reduction in the intensity of these feelings. Pre-operative education is an important component of the approaches for improved recovery after surgery, which aims to empower patients and their families to make their own health decisions. Pre-operative education reduces hospital stays, surgical complications, and recovery time. Thorough pre-operative instruction helps patients cope with surgery, control pain, and self-care. Post-operative problems, compliance, and anxiety must be reduced. According to a study on self-care knowledge and performance, early extubating, pain management, duration of stay, and complications, scheduled pre-operative training may help patients. Pre-operative teaching can prepare cardiac surgery patients. According to a study on the effect of the Orem self-care program on sleep quality, daily activities, and lower extremity edema in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery, the program can reduce post-operative complications and improve self-care in long-term care patients.

Aim: The aim was to assess the sleep quality and its correlation with glycosylated hemoglobin level among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Background: A systematic review and meta-analysis on impact of sleep amount and sleep quality on glycemic control, including 70,000 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with 20 studies, revealed that there was 23% increase in HbA1c level in patients who reported insufficient sleep duration < 0.01) between sleep quality and glycosylated hemoglobin level among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Out of seven domains in PSQI scale, six domains had positive correlation with glycosylated hemoglobin level. Conclusion: It can be concluded that it is imperative to assess sleep in all patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus to identify and address poor glycemic control and this can, in turn, help to improve the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Introduction: Vitamin A is an essential micronutrient. It enhances children’s immunity and protects against illness/morbidity and reduces death/mortality. Therefore, it is essential for child survival. Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge of mothers on Vitamin A requirements, sources, deficiency, and its prophylaxis among under five children before and after planned teaching program. Methodology: The data were collected from 100 mothers of under five children using semi structured questionnaire in the selected Anganwadi from Ahmed Nagar District. Results: The majority of the mothers belong to the age group of 21–40 (83%) and (41%) completed secondary education, Majority (58%) had two children. The knowledge mean score in pretest in the area of concept of Vitamin A was 1.78, whereas in post-test, it was increased to 3.39. Mean score analysis is done in different sections of questionnaire such as Sources of Vitamin A, requirement of Vitamin A and Vitamin A deficiency, and prevention and prophylaxis, and its found increased in post-test score in all respective areas. The overall mean score was 13.8 out of maximum score of 50 in pre-test and 31.8 in post-test which was statistically significant. Conclusion: As study shows the significance of the difference between pre-test and post-test 13.81–31.8, respectively.
