. Radiation-induced bystander effect (RIBE), is well verified in radiation biology field. Vast bulk of these effects are defined in cell culture systems, while in vivo authentication and evaluation of biological consequences still vague. We aimed to mechanistically interrogate RIBE responses thus this study was conducted. Accordingly, Albino rats’ right femurs were exposed to 0.25, 0.45 and 0.75 Gу γ-radiation. Rats were euthanized 1 day and ten days post irradiation, total antioxidant capacity and mRNA expression levels of Stromal Derived Growth Factor (SDF-1) were evaluated in bone marrow. Blood micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (fMNPCEs) and femoral muscle’s lipid peroxidation (LPO) were measurable. Femoral muscle’s LPO, total antioxidant capacity and mRNA genes expression levels were significantly increased in both left and right femur at 0.45 and 0.75 Gy 24 h post irradiation and retained near control levels 10 days post irradiation. fMNPCEs became significantly higher 24 h post irradiation and showed a non-significant difference at all doses ten days post irradiation. In conclusion, the increase of LPO in femur muscle, with elevation in SDF-1 mRNA expression levels in bone marrow, and total antioxidant capacity in non-irradiated left femurs indicate that a bystander effect exists.

This study discusses the capability of the prepared modified mesoporous zeolite-A /reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite (MZ-A/RGO) in removal of cadmium (Cd 2+ ) ions from wastewater, in which 3-aminopropyl- trimethoxysilane (APTMS) was used as a mesopore generating and cross linkage agent in this preparation. X-ray diffraction, attenuated total reflectance- Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and field emission scanning electron microscope were used to confirm the successful preparation of MZ-A/RGO nanocomposite. The results indicated that the modified mesoporous zeolite-A (MZ-A) was attached to the surface of the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanosheets without any aggregation. The adsorption treatment experiments were conducted for Cd 2+ ions removal and the adsorption capacities of MZ-A/RGO were determined under different adsorption parameters including, the contact time, initial adsorbate concentrations and temperature. The adsorption results revealed that 15 minutes was quiet enough to ensure the equilibrium state with maximum adsorption capacity 222.23 mg/g and the experimental data was fitted well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The isotherm studies refer to the Langmuir model exhibits best fitting for the obtained experimental data and the thermodynamic results confirm that the endothermic nature of the adsorption of Cd 2+ ions on MZ-A/RGO nanocomposite.

Article history: Received 19 July 2020 Accepted 19 August 2020 Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a biologic process that permits an epithelial cell to undergo multiple biochemical changes that enable it to assume a mesenchymal cell phenotype with enhanced migratory capacity and invasiveness. In the present study, the cytotoxic activity of aloin, a natural anthraquinone glycoside, was assessed against a breast cancer cell line (T47D) using MTT and clonogenic assays, compared to doxorubicin, an anthracycline analog. The effects of exposure of T47D tumor cells to IC50 values of aloin and doxorubicin (181.5 and 0.17 μM, respectively) for 72 h on the mRNA expression levels of a nonreceptor tyrosine kinase (JAK2), a transcription factor (STAT5a) and some biomarkers for EMT were evaluated to provide new prognostic and therapeutic markers for estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer progression. Exposure to aloin down-regulated the expression levels of JAK2, STAT5a and vimentin mRNA in T47D cells, while the expression levels of E-cadherin and ZO-1 mRNA were not significantly changed. On the other hand, exposure of breast tumor cells to doxorubicin up-regulated the expression of E-cadherin mRNA, whereas the expression levels of JAK2, STAT5a, ZO-1 and vimentin mRNA were not affected. In conclusion, the chemosensitivity of aloin towards breast tumor cells is due to inhibition of JAK2/STAT5a signaling, which results in the inhibition of vimentin expression as a mesenchymal marker of EMT.

Article history: Received 15 September 2019 Accepted 21 October 2019 The present study was undertaken to investigate the relative expression levels of miRNA-100 and -196b in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and its phenotypes. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PMNCs) were isolated from peripheral blood samples of 40 pediatric ALL patients and 10 healthy controls. We assessed the expression levels of miRNA-100 and -196b by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) assay. A significant upregulation in the expression levels of miRNA-100 and -196b in ALL patients is reported, compared to the normal controls. T-ALL patients manifested a higher expression of miRNA-100 and-196b than those with pre-B-ALL and biphenotypic ALL. MiRNA-100 and -196b distinguished ALL patients from the normal controls at cut-off values 6.54 (92.5 % sensitivity, 100 % specificity) and 5.49 (92.5 % sensitivity, 100 % specificity), respectively. As well, miRNA-100 and -196b discriminated between the different ALL phenotypes with high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy levels. Two correlation coefficients are herein reported including a significant positive correlation between miRNA-100 and -196b expression levels (r = 0.328, p < 0.05) and a significant negative correlation between miRNA-100 expression level and the platelets count (r = -0.448, p < 0.01) in ALL patients. Our findings concluded that miRNA-100 and -196b could be considered as good noninvasive blood biomarkers for the diagnosis of ALL, and in distinguishing its phenotypes.
T-ALL患者miRNA-100和196b的表达高于b -ALL前期和双表型ALL患者。

Article history: Received 18 August 2019 Accepted 30 September 2019 A new series of hyperbranched polyester-type polymers were synthesized from a variety of comonomers like adipic acid, 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, trimethylolpropane, glycerol, trimellitic anhydride and citric acid using dibutyltin oxide as catalyst according to two steps one pot A2+B3 approach by solution polymerization with a fixed monomers ratio. The consequential polymers were brittle, soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate and methylethylketone. The prepared polymers were utilized as a novel film forming co-binder with nitrocellulose for solvent based printing inks application. The physico-chemical characteristics were confirmed by FT-IR, GPC and acid value as well as hydroxyl value determinations. The mechanical and optical properties of the produced inks printed film were evaluated. The results show that the overall properties of the inks are of promise quality for use as co-binder resins for solvent based printing inks with 50 % partial substitution in formulation.

Diabetes is well-known disease for its complication and increasing population over time, therefore new methods for complication assessment should be found. The aim of this study is to determine levels of nesfatin-1, von Willebrand factor (vWF) and N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) in Egyptian type 2 diabetes (T2DM) with and without complications, their assessment as possible markers in tracing diabetes progression in addition to finding a correlation between these three parameters. Sixty-seven Egyptian male patients were divided into three groups as follows: 25 with T2DM without any complication, 22 with diabetic nephropathy (DN) and 20 patients with diabetic cardiovascular complications (DC). Nesfatin-1, vWF, NAG, HOMA-IR (Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance), HOMA-β (Homeostasis model assessment of β-cell function) were all determined using ELISA technique , while the fasting blood glucose (FBG), lipid profile and the kidney parameters were analyzed using the biochemistry system, results were compared to 19 healthy controls with same age. Correlation studies were done between all the studied parameters. All diabetic patients showed a significant increase compared to control in the following parameters: (FBG), glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA 1C ), HOMA-IR, serum urea, serum creatinine, albumin creatinine ratio (ACR), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), atherogenic indices. Significant decrease was seen in HOMA-β, meanwhile LDL-C and HDL-C showed no statistical significance change compared to control. The studied parameters nesfatin-1 and vWF showed statistical significance increase with all diabetic groups, while NAG showed significance increase only with (DN). In conclusions, there was direct correlations between (nesfatin-1 and HOMA-β), (vWF and ACR) and (HbA 1C and FBG). No correlation was found between the three studied parameters, however these three markers showed significant increase relative to control where nesfatin-1, vWF can be used in tracing of both complications (DN and DC), and NAG can be used only in tracing of DN.

No correlation was found between the three studied parameters, however these three markers showed significant increase relative to control where nesfatin-1, vWF can be used in tracing of both complications (DN and DC), and NAG can be used only in tracing of DN.","PeriodicalId":447760,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Applied and Pure Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123803716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Article history: Received 20 August 2019 Accepted 15 October 2019 The phase-separation phenomenon of non-ionic surfactants occurring in aqueous solution was used for the extraction and concentration of thorium ions. The method is based on the complexation reaction of thorium(IV) with 2-(5-bromo-2pyridylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol (5-Br-PADAP) at pH (3.4). The formed complex was quantitatively extracted to the phase rich in octylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol (Triton X-114) after centrifugation. The enriched analyte in the surfactant-rich phase was extracted, dissolved and determined spectrophotometrically at 531 nm. The optimal extraction and reaction conditions (e.g. pH, surfactant concentration, reagent concentration, temperature, effect of time) were evaluated and the analytical characteristics of the method (e.g. limit of detection, linear range and preconcentration factor) were obtained. Linearity was obeyed in the range of 0.125-2.5μg/ml of Th(IV). The interference effect of some foreign ions was also tested. The proposed method was successfully applied for the preconcentration and determination of trace thorium ions in certified reference sample and silicate geological samples.
