, conducted with 188 puerperal women in the city of Montes Claros, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data were obtained with a structured questionnaire about the sociodemographic profile and obstetric history. Descriptive analysis was performed and, for the analysis of factors associated with the mode of delivery, the Pearson’s chi-square test was used. Results: The prevalence of vaginal deliveries was 56.4% (n=106) and 43.6% (n=82) of cesarean sections. Of the 82 (43.6%) women who were subjected to cesarean section, the main reasons for cesarean section reported by the puerperal women were: cephalopelvic disproportion (40.2%; n=33), elevated blood pressure levels (13.4%; n=11), and previous cesarean section (12.2%; n=10). A significant association was found between choice of cesarean delivery and higher maternal age ( p =0.031), skin color ( p =0.045), high income ( p =0.015), and public financing of delivery ( p =0.041). Conclusion: Vaginal route prevailed among puerperal women, but a high prevalence of cesarean sections was observed, which showed that higher maternal age, skin color, high income, and public financing of childbirth influence the mode of delivery. The information obtained in this study can be used to improve the assistance to pregnant women and puerperal women, especially in pregnant women more susceptible to unnecessary cesarean sections

Mackenzie (HUEM), and to correlate the viral genetic variant and the presented symptoms with the development of the patient's clinical condition. Methods: A cross-sectional prospective study was performed with nasal swab samples from 219 SARS-CoV-2 positive patients. The patients were over 18 years old and were admitted to the HUEM between November 2021 and June 2022 for virus genotyping and analysis of medical records. Results: Of the 219 study participants, 66% had the delta variant and 33% had the omicron variant. The data obtained from deaths did not show significant relevance among the analyzed variables. The mean age was 61 years old, and the omicron variant affected older patients (65.5 years). The most prevalent comorbidities were SAH and DM in both genders, and the most relevant symptom was cough, which was observed mainly in those infected with the delta variant. Among the prognostic predictors, ground glass opacity on chest computed tomography was significantly more present in infections with delta variant. Conclusion: Delta variant affects the respiratory system more than omicron. In addition, despite of being collected in a similar time interval, the delta variant represented twice as many cases, which could demonstrate the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Objectives: The present study aims to describe the characteristics of patients with Waardenburg syndrome, explain the pathophysiology of the syndrome in question, reaffirm the importance of interprofessional care for patients and reinforce the relevance and need for genetic counseling and the study of the language of signals. Case Report: A four-year-old male patient presented suspected Waardenburg syndrome in the maternity ward due to the phenotype of poliosis (frontal white streak), hypopigmentation on the face and bright blue irises. At nine months, the beginning of a hearing loss was noticed. The diagnosis was confirmed by clinical evaluation and the Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry exam was instructed to confirm the hearing loss. After diagnosis, the presence of phenotypic characteristics indicative of Waardenburg syndrome was noted in six other family members - mother, maternal grandfather and brother, great-grandfather's cousin, two great-uncles. Conclusion: Early diagnosis allows adequate stimulation for hearing loss and reinforces the importance of genetic counseling and family planning, in addition to allowing the family to study sign language, aiming to improve the quality of life of patients with Waardenburg syndrome.
