Educational psychologists are particularly interested in motivation because of its critical role in student learning. How students can be active in their learning would affect their outcomes during their educational journey. Thus, this study aims to explain types of motivation in language learning and then sheds light on how such motivation pushes and stimulates students in English speaking, concurrently digging deeper into influencing factors on students’ motivation. Findings from the survey questionnaire reveal that the students mainly have extrinsic and intrinsic motivations. This could be explained by the students’ focus on the requirements of jobs and the desire to experience new things. Besides, some factors that influence the students' motivation in English language learning include the learning environment, limited knowledge, and teachers’ pedagogical strategies. The semi-structured interview offers a deeper understanding of the students’ experience about how motivation affects their speaking skills as well as how some factors are suggested for higher motivation. Hence, enhancing English-majored students' proficiency, especially in speaking English fluently, is the final goal of the study. From such a vantage point, some motivational strategies are recommended for English-speaking classes for both majored students and non-majored ones.

Nowadays, English plays a crucial role in many fields in Vietnam as well as globally. Therefore, having a good level of English proficiency is advantageous for many people in terms of studying, researching, and working. Among the English skills, listening is important but also poses challenges for learners. The purpose of this study is to identify the current situation and difficulties in English listening comprehension among non-major students, in order to find appropriate solutions to help learners improve their listening skills. The survey sample consists of 188 first-year students majoring in Accounting and Business Administration at university of transport and communication ho chi minh city campus. A listening skills test was administered after students had almost completed their English course with TOEIC orientation. The research results indicate several difficulties students encounter in listening, including: (1) Lack of vocabulary knowledge, (2) Weak ability to perceive and differentiate sounds, (3) Limited ability to infer and use listening strategies such as predicting or taking notes, and (4) Lack of concentration. Additionally, the results also highlight certain issues that educators should consider to help learners enhance their listening skills.

This paper problematizes the symbolic significance of the number ‘three’ in Zambian culture and society. The paper aims to highlight the pragmatic implicature of the number ‘three’ conveyed by different cultures and languages in Zambia. The study used a qualitative approach. Data were collected through elicitation by conducting unstructured interviews as well as document analysis. Primary data were collected from 33 respondents who were selected purposively to represent six cultures from five provinces of Zambia. Primary data were justified by secondary sources of information. Phenomenology theoretical locale was chosen to underpin the study. The study reveals that there is a significant value in numerology such as the arithmetic number ‘three’. The number ‘three’ is highly interpreted in both Biblical and cultural contexts and can be used to preserve indigenous knowledge for future generations. Anthropologically, the number ‘three’ is used to teach, admonish, counsel, reconcile, and unify people such as families, churches, and marriages. It can be concluded that the anthropological symbolic significance of the number ‘three’ bears some commonalities in the Zambian culture and the sample languages, and has minor pragmatic variations.

Investigating the Spatio-Temporal Relationship between NDVI and LST in Abakaliki LGA, Ebonyi State Nigeria, Using Landsat and Correlation Analysis: Implications for Landscape Management

Understanding spatiotemporal linkages between normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) and land surface temperature (LST) is crucial for managing landscape resilience amid global change. This study applied correlation analyses to investigate NDVI-LST relationships across Abakaliki LGA, Nigeria from 2000-2022 using Landsat data. Multi-decadal trends revealed widespread LST increases exceeding 9°C, while NDVI declined, implying vegetation clearing transformed surfaces from carbon sinks to sources dampening temperatures. In 2000, NDVI positively correlated with LST (r=0.745, p<0.01); by 2022, large-scale NDVI suppression drove strong negative correlations between NDVI and LST (r=-0.751, p<0.01). Findings documented rapid decoupling of previously heterogeneous NDVI-LST couplings tied to diverse land use. Sustainable intensification offers potential to restore climate-buffering vegetation and recouple local anthropogenic-climatic systems. Continued monitoring can track restoration progress while adaptation evolves with socio-environmental change. This research advances understanding of anthropic impacts on landscape energetics using remote sensing and correlation analyses, with implications for integrated management under global change.
