New directions in aluminum : Based P/M materials for automotive applications 铝的新方向:汽车用粉末冶金材料

Aluminum-based materials produced by powder metallurgy processing offer a number of interesting and patentially high impact commercial opportunities in the automotive industry if the range of properties available can be expanded in a cost-effective manner. This paper reviews some of these new dovelopments in materials and processes and also provides information that is helpful in assessing their readiness for near-term commercial implementation in the automotive market.

Modified P/M Soft Magnetic Materials for Automotive Applications 汽车用改性P/M软磁材料

P/M soft magnetic materials represent a substantial and rapidly growing segment of the advanced particulate materials used to produce high performance automotive components. In addition, new automotive engineering designs often require improved magnetic characteristics, typically beyond the capabilities of the most widely used P/M materials for soft magnetic applications. The influence of modified chemical composition and processing parameters on the magnetic properties of several common P/M soft magnetic materials are discussed. The soft magnetic properties obtained from these experiments are presented and discussed relative to the higher performance requirements of end users.

The fundamentals of the P/M industry in North America have never been stronger. Raw materials Suppliers, equipment manufacturers and their customers who fabricate P/M parts are investing and expandig. Markets for ferrous and nonferrous powders, P/M parts and PIM parts are assessed retrospect and into the next century. Market opportunities for the utilization of advanced particulate materials are also considered. these include high speed steels, metal matrix composites and nanostructured alloys. Technology transfer is reflected in the activities of the MPIF Technical Board, the MPIF web site and programs sponsored by the Center for Powder Metallurgy Technology.
