The efficiency of warehouse processes is influenced by the design, layout and operation of the warehouse. We have developed a simulation process to valuate how the initial arrangement of products affects logistics activities in an inhomogeneous storage environment with no direct access. Continuing our research, we compared the operational logics commonly used in warehouses with indirect storage access through that simulation. The results were classified using a complex evaluation method, and then the ranking of the service logics was established. We believe that our research results can be useful for all those who want to achieve a more efficient use of warehouse space while respecting service time limits.

In this article we deal with production logistics within internal logistics, as well as the material supply of production, as well as the related material handling and the use of material handling robots supporting processes. Robot navigation is a multi-approach discipline that poses a major challenge in intralogistics. In general, the navigation principle, software and hardcer requirements of mobile robots must be prepared on the basis of logistics processes in such a way as to satisfy production with sufficient accuracy and safety. In the article we present the types of robots and give an insight about autonomous mobile robots.

The supply chain optimization is key to improving the cost efficiency and sustainability of manufacturing and service companies. One of the most innovative strategies is just-in-sequence supply, which offers improvements over traditional just-in-time approaches. This paper focuses on the implementation of ship-to-ship supply, especially to mathematical modeling of just-in-sequence strategies. It not only evaluates the entire supply process, but this approach allows for a comprehensive analysis of the financial impact of ship-to-ship supply for both suppliers and end-users. It goes beyond the analysis of the entire supply process; it allows an examination of selected processes at deeper levels and evaluates the impact of different factors on financial indicators.

Pub Date : 2024-04-12 DOI: 10.32971/als.2024.009
Ákos Tóth, István Pesti
The article examines how start-up companies in the transportation and warehousing sector can be encouraged by institutions from a macroeconomic perspective. The assumption is that start-ups are more likely to be successful in countries with higher quality institutional systems. In this article, the statistical data of the EU member states are compared using comparative analytical methods, followed by tests using econometric models to evaluate the results. On the one hand, the World Governance Indicator, Human Development Index, and International Property Rights Index of the examined European countries, and on the other hand Hit Horizon and EU startup industry databases are used to answer the puzzle. The assumption is that institutions play an important role in the success of start-up companies in the transportation and warehousing sectors.

Design methodology for the control logic of flexible production systems and related logistics

The ever-shorter product life cycle entails a shortening of the life cycle of the production site and production systems as well. One of the biggest advantages of flexible production systems is that new products can be introduced to them continuously, so that their life cycle can be significantly extended. Flexible manufacturing systems, on the other hand, also require flexible control, the logic of which must be defined already in the design phase. The main elements of the design methodology of the production and logistics layout that make up the research are the information relationship chart and the related decision tables, which are suitable for speeding up the design and later for facilitating the creation of a digital twin and control logic programming.

Sidewalk autonomous delivery robots for last-mile parcel delivery
Pub Date : 2024-04-12 DOI: 10.32971/als.2024.004
Henning Strubelt
The dynamics of e-commerce, combined with the growing number of users and the increasing volume of last-mile consignments, are driving current developments in logistics. As online commerce continues to grow, so does the need for active service providers to deliver courier, express, and parcel (CEP) shipments on time. Autonomous last-mile delivery is said to have the potential to transform the way we receive goods. As these autonomous delivery technologies continue to develop and become more widespread, it is possible to foresee a future where autonomous delivery vehicles seamlessly navigate our roads and sidewalks, bringing our online orders to our doorsteps faster and more efficiently than ever. After a general classification of sidewalk autonomous delivery robots (SADRs), this paper examines how far the development and implementation of these vehicles have progressed and which developments offer the greatest opportunities for ecological and economic use in the future.

Business models on the basis of digital infrastructure data
Pub Date : 2024-04-12 DOI: 10.32971/als.2024.002
Steve Schulz, Sebastian Trojahn
The project Ready for Smart City Robots (R4R) is developing strategies for the detailed capture of infrastructural environmental parameters. These are intended to be utilized for autonomous mobility and logistics applications on pedestrian and bicycle paths. The project evaluates the quality and completeness of data for Smart City concepts, using examples from (autonomous) micro-mobility in logistics and transportation. The results encompass the following areas: firstly, the identification of necessary environmental information for environmentally friendly, automated last-mile logistics, along with a continuous data collection method for up-to-date information. Secondly, the examination of various integration scenarios for autonomous delivery services and an autonomous bicycle rental system in rural areas. This includes the development of application scenarios and the scientific support of the prototype construction of the necessary technical prerequisites for the data/sensor boxes. The following outlines the business model potentials for data collection, autonomous micro-mobility, sharing services, and Smart City applications.

To fulfil the increasing requirements of the social and economic environments, the equipment used in material handling processes have to be developed. The machines fitted exactly to certain manufacturing procedures some decades ago, cannot be found in the advanced version, they role are acted by other, earlier rarely used computer-controlled devices. The traditional method for the material handling is the using of mobile handling units, where the goods are moving on the machines, so the characteristics of the transportation are based on the parameters of the handling equipment. Suited to the new requirements, the structure and operation of the mobile handling units are changing but their application have similar conditions. There are many handling machines belonging to this category, this paper gives an overview about their most popular variations and their usability in advanced material handling systems.
