Introduction: Even though blood transfusion safety has come a long way, Transfusion-Transmitted Infections (TTI), which include bacterial, viral, parasitic, and prions, can still spread with each transfusion. The main goal of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of the five TTIs that are required to be tested in India among blood donors at our facility. Accurate estimates of the risk of TTIs are essential for monitoring the safety of the blood supply. Methodology: This was a retrospective descriptive study conducted in the blood centre of a tertiary care teaching hospital in Puducherry, from 2017 to 2023. Records from blood banks were reviewed to collect data on all donors who underwent appropriate testing for HIV, hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, syphilis, and malaria. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was done for HIV, HCV, HBsAg/hepatitis B surface antigen, and rapid card testing was done for syphilis and malaria. Results: There was a total of 2570 donors during the study period. In the present study, the overall seroprevalence of TTIs was 1.40%. The individual seropositivity rates were 0.03% for HIV, 0.93 % for HBsAg, and 0.43 % for syphilis. There were no cases of malaria and HCV detected in the study period. The highest percentage of prevalence was observed for HBV, followed by Syphilis and HIV. Conclusion: The overall seroprevalence of TTI in Puducherry was smaller than those reported elsewhere in the country. It was comparatively lesser than the national average for HIV, HCV, and HBV and much higher for syphilis.

It is known that the diagnosis of these tumors can be delayed due to the lack of specific symptoms, and this delay in diagnosis and the large size that these lesions can reach significantly influence the prognosis and treatment of the disease, sometimes putting in danger, the functional preservation of the affected limb. The main objective in the treatment is to preserve the limb. We present a case of myxoid liposarcoma located in the right thigh in a 57-year-old patient who presented to pain in the right lower extremity.

Clear cell carcinoma is structures of Mullerian origin, they are associated with mutations in TP53 as they are a high-grade neoplasm, however there is no immunophenotypic pattern that guides us if the origin is from the ovary, uterus, endocervix or endometrium. A 71-year-old female patient who underwent surgery for a right parauterine tumor with a pathological report that corresponded to a clear cell tumor. Subsequently, a staging and cytoreductive laparotomy was performed, performing abdominal cavity lavage, salpingo-oophorectomy of the remaining ovary (left), and pelvic and paraortic lymphadenectomy. , omentectomy and biopsies of the parietal peritoneum, all the material was negative for metastatic disease, 18 months later there was a relapse in the vaginal vault, with the presence of an ovoid tumor measuring 10 cm in diameter, treated with colpectomy, with a report of clear cell carcinoma with CK7+ / Napsin A+ / p53+ protein immunophenotype, with a satisfactory disease-free postoperative period.

Introduction: P-selectin is a cell adhesion molecule that play key roles in vaso-occlusive crisis, atherosclerosis, inflammation and is highly implicated in sickle cell diseases. This cross-sectional study determines the level of P-selectin in haemoglobin-S variants steady state subjects in Port Harourt Nigeria. Materials and Methods: Eighty (80) subjects comprising of haemoglobin-S variants in steady-state and apparently healthy haemoglobin A (HbAA) male and female aged within 5-60years were recruited for the study. Five millilitres (5mls) of venous blood were aseptically collected by venepuncture from each participant into plain tube and analysed using Elabsceince ELISA kits. Data obtained were analysed using SPSS version 24, and results considered to be significant at p<0.05. Results: P-selectin levels were all within detectable normal reference ranges with highest value observed in HbSS subjects (10.98±2.72ng/ml) followed by HbSC subjects (9.58±3.51ng/ml), HbAA subjects (9.42±3.17ng/ml) and lowest value in HbAS subjects (8.01±3.19ng/ml) respectively (p=0.037). Comparison of P-selectin level based on gender showed no statistically significant difference across the various groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: The study revealed a higher P-selectin level in HbSS and HbSC subjects although all within normal detectable reference ranges. It further demonstrated that gender has no effect on the expression of P-selectin in haemoglobin-S variant steady state subjects and normal haemoglobin A (HbAA). Measurement of P-selectin level in sickle cell diesease is recommended as an indirect way of investigating and monitoring red cell haemolysis, platelet aggregation and degree of inflammation in haemoglobin-S variants subjects.
