The article attempts to define the role of Plovdiv International Fair in the foreign trade relations of Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia – countries belonging to the same economic and political world in the inter-bloc confrontation during the Cold War. The period from the middle 1940s and the 1950s was chosen, because then Czechoslovakia was the second most important trade socialist partner for Bulgaria, which provided machinery, equipment and complete projects for Bulgarian industrialization. The study traces the gradual weakening of the importance of the fair for their trade relations with the increase of integration processes in the COMECON since 1956, when the international socialist division of labour was created and the processes of coordinating business plans were centralized. The analysis of the set problems is based on archival material not yet in scientific circulation, stored in the State Archives of Plovdiv, as well as on studies examining the Bulgarian-Czechoslovak economic relations for the period.

. The study deals with the topic of initiation, development and implementation of the idea of constructing a new theater building in Bratislava. Although the idea to build a modern Slovak National Theater has its origin already in the interwar period, it was only realized in 2007, when the new theater building was opened. The long process of the preparation and construction of the theater was primarily determined by the complexity of this task, which could not be solved satisfactorily for decades. The competition for the design of the theater was preceded by an urban competition for its location, where a decision was made between seven variants spread across the city. Later, the conditions of the architectural competition for the building (1979) were formed, which made extremely high demands on the architects, because the main goal was to create an innovative architecture not only from the formal, but also a technological point of view. In addition, another important goal was to combine spaces for drama and opera in one building, which was a unique solution at that time. Using the example of the genesis of thinking about the new modern theater building as one of the national cultural institutions, the study identifies and describes the key moments of the post-war architectural discourse. The aim of the text is to expand urban and historical-architectural research with new topics, especially focused on the reflections of the foreign architectural scene in relation to innovations in the architecture. It is also so far the most detailed analysis of the crystallazation of the designs of the new Slovak National Theater, closely linked to the wider context of post-war buildings intended for culture purposes in Slovakia, which are becoming national cultural heritage today.

In a quantitative study, the promotion of officials in seven counties of the Kingdom of Hungary is investigated. In the 18th century, some noble office-holders of humbler origins seem to have met difficulties being elected to the office of ordinarius judex nobilium, the lowest of the really important positions, while the most elevated gentry families did not even bother to serve in the county administration – or if so, then only for that of the ordinarius vicecomes, the leading office-holder. We can even get a glimpse of signs of professionalization among the county officials. An important fact is that the gate was open for some of the leading officials the counties to be appointed by the king to offices with nationwide authority, what testifies for an important link of the central royal bureaucracy and the county administration, the two rival elites of the age.

The tradition of temperance movement in the Bohemian lands dates back to the early 20th century. It gained momentum after World War I, which was perceived by the movement as a consequence of the decline and the movement sought to prevent any similar conflicts in the future. Its aim was to solve the issue of alcoholism, which posed a serious social and health problem. The movement was based and relied on the knowledge and current trends coming from Western Europe and the U.S. It found support among professionals and laymen alike, often through the prism of religion. The article discusses the temperance movement in the Bohemian lands in the first half of the 20th century. The article traces the movement’s origins and history – especially its acceptance by education and sports associations, clubs and societies. Special emphasis is put on the Sokol organisation and its diverse temperance activities, which were intended to lead its own members to voluntary sobriety and complete abstinence (teetotalism). Such activities were meant to offer an example for the entire nation. The main emphasis is on the Moravian region, which spearheaded the temperance movement and would influence the rest of the Bohemian lands for a long time. It also considers local conditions and the community-wide support, as well as what the entire movement achieved from the times of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the end of the First Czechoslovak Republic. It also looks closely at the interconnectedness and synergies among the various temperance organisations.
