We propose that light can break mirror symmetries and combining symmetries with a uniform time translation, and their breaking is characterized by an off-diagonal charge conductivity. Taking periodically driven graphene as an example, we show that mirror symmetries about the $xz$ and $yz$ planes and the combining symmetries, the symmetries of combinations of the mirror operations about these planes and a uniform time translation, can be broken by linearly or circularly polarized light. We also show that this symmetry breaking induces the time-averaged off-diagonal symmetric or antisymmetric charge conductivity in a nonequilibrium steady state with linearly or circularly, respectively, polarized light. Our results are experimentally testable in pump-probe measurements. This work will pave the way for controlling mirror symmetries via light and utilizing the light-induced mirror symmetry breaking.

Iron-based superconductor Sr$_2$VFeAsO$_3$ is composed of alternate stacking of a superconducting FeAs layer and an insulating vanadium-oxide layer with a perovskite-type structure. Electronic orders stemming from the spin and orbital degrees of freedom of V $3d$ electrons can arise in the vanadium-oxide layer, but such orders have not been confirmed so far. Here, we systematically investigate the electronic state of Sr$_2$VFeAsO$_{3-delta}$ with oxygen deficiency and demonstrate the phase diagram of Sr$_2$VFeAsO$_{3-delta}$ as a function of the $c$-axis lattice parameter, which has turned out to be a suitable measure of the amount of oxygen deficiency. We found a magnetic and structural anomaly at $sim 100$ K with a thermal hysteresis, which is manifested with the introduction of oxygen deficiency. The presence of orthorhombic distortion was revealed below the temperature at which the anomaly appears, suggestive of V orbital ordering involving the $d_{xz}$ and $d_{yz}$ orbitals. It seems that substantial fluctuations associated with the orthorhombic distortion significantly influence the electronic state of the FeAs layer. Our findings indicate that the vanadium-oxide layer plays a significant role in the electronic state of Sr$_2$VFeAsO$_{3-delta}$.

We focus on a scenario of non-Hermitian bulk--boundary correspondence that uses a topological invariant defined in a bulk geometry under a modified periodic boundary condition. Although this has succeeded in describing the topological nature of various one-dimensional non-Hermitian systems, its application to two-dimensional systems has been limited to a non-Hermitian Chern insulator. Here, we adapt the scenario to a non-Hermitian quantum spin-Hall insulator to extend its applicability. We show that it properly describes the bulk--boundary correspondence in the non-Hermitian quantum spin-Hall insulator. A phase diagram derived from the bulk--boundary correspondence is shown to be consistent with spectra of the system under an open boundary condition.
