This review article aims to assess the success of dental implants in breast cancer patients receiving bisphosphonate therapy, and to evaluate the risk of developing bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw following dental implant surgery.Breast cancer patients undergoing bisphosphonate therapy may receive dental implants. However, the risk of developing BRONJ and implant failure is quite high. Risk factors such as the type of BP received, the route of administration, and the length of treatment prior to surgery should be considered.

Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (Ca ex PA) is a rare malignancy that represents a transformation of a primary pleomorphic adenoma (PA), or carcinoma arising from primary (de novo) or recurrent or pre-existing pleomorphic adenoma (PA). Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign mixed common neoplasm that arises from the major salivary gland. Here we are presenting a case report of a 60-year-old female patient with a history of swelling in her right parotid region for 1 year. After a thorough clinical and histological examination it is diagnosed as carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (Ca ex PA). In our case report we are more emphasizing the histological behavioral pattern of Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma in preexisting pleomorphic adenoma (Ca ex PA) as distinctive histological features of this rare tumor play an essential role in the diagnosis of this tumor and thus, aid in the correct treatment plan and better prognosis.

Role of hyaluronic acid in post-extraction healing 透明质酸在拔牙后愈合中的作用

In dental practice, rapid healing of post-extraction wounds is integral in reducing the risk of infection that causes patient discomfort. Wound healing is a dynamic process requiring adequate vascularization and collagen matrix deposition. The renewal of vessels determines traction that stimulates remodelling of the extracellular matrix, potentiating neo-vessel responses. The presence of topical agents may aid the regenerative and repair mechanisms & improve the healing process of damaged tissues. Commercial preparations based on low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) have shown to improve the healing of connective tissue, epithelium, and mucosa. HA is used during the healing process as it primarily creates a temporary structure for depositing extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, initiates cell adhesion, proliferation, and migration, and regulates vascular endothelial cell function. The present review article discusses the possible complications of delayed post-extraction healing and the role of hyaluronic acid in post-extraction wound healing and alveolar osteitis.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dislocation is a type of condition where the condyle is anteriorly displaced beyond the articular eminence. Long standing cases with TMJ dislocation condition persisting for more than a month becomes challenging to treat. Its management includes closed reduction to complicated surgical procedures so as to reduce the dislocated condyles. Mandibular dislocation cases present with its own distinctive features. The aim of the report is to reduce the dislocated condyles through conservative management. This paper presents with non-invasive and conservative method for management of a long standing case (three months old) of TMJ dislocation in patient with acute renal failure and uncontrolled diabetes giving excellent outcome using elastic traction. Elastic traction with fulcrum on molars for reduction and inter-maxillary fixation was done in order to stabilize the mandibular condyles into the glenoid fossa. Here we stressed on the effectiveness of continuous traction using elastics and Inter-maxillary fixation (IMF) in achieving a complete repositioning of the mandibular condyles back into the fossaCondyles were reduced back in glenoid fossa with excellent outcome.Where manual reduction is not possible, elastic traction and IMF is the only method to reduce condyles. In long standing chronic TMJ dislocation case, only manual reduction was not sufficient. Since no standard rules for the ideal strategy are available till date, initial approach must be conservative so to preserve surgical treatment for later if needed.

: Musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) are a group of conditions that affect the muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, and other supporting structures in the body. The purpose of this study is to determine the risk factors associated with MSD, to evaluate the occurrence of MSD and to ascertain if they are also aware of the measures to prevent and manage these conditions.A questionnaire based study was done including the dental students who were working in clinics, this comprising of third year, final year as well as interns of our institute via social networks. The variables taken into consideration were demographic details presence and absence of pain, average working hours per day, break between attending patients, best practices followed by subject to minimize MSD.: Among 270 dental students, 202 responses were collected, with response rate of (74.81%). The most common site affected by MSD was the lower back reported in 26.3% subjects, while other regions affected in descending order were, neck (16.8%), more than one region (15.3%) followed by Upper back (14.9%), no pain(10.8%), Shoulders (9.6%) and elbow (6.3%).Statistical analysis among the different variables showed how awareness regarding measures like stretching exercises and physical activities positively influences work performance and act as a catalyst in reducing MSD. : Occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders among dental students is significantly high due to lack of awareness regarding maintaining proper posture, implementing regular breaks and physical exercises. MSD in dentistry can be diminished through following proper posture, taking adequate breaks between the patients and maintaining good physical health.
