Believing in Allah’s Qada’ and Qadar is one of the pillars of faith for Muslim. One of the important elements in this particular pillar of faith is the concept of al-Ibtila’. In the context of Malay Muslims, the word al-Ibtila’ is rarely used, or at least not as frequently used as its synonym, Bala’. Al-Ibtila’ is commonly understood in the form of hardship and difficulties in life, but in fact it also includes worldly pleasure and luxury. It is therefore very important for Muslims to understand the concept of Ibtila’ in Islam. This paper aims to explore the concept of Ibtila’ according to Islam by covering some important elements which include its basic concepts, classification, form, purpose, and benefits. By knowing and understanding the concept of Ibtila’ in Islam, the soul can be taught to be patient and steadfast when facing trials and adversity.

This article discusses Sufi tradition as an Islamic educational tradition in the Nahdlatul Wathan (NW) madrassas. The article was examined through a literature review supported by interviews and analyzed through a sociological approach. We put the document as primary data, while the results of the interview as secondary data. These documents are works of Shaykh Zainuddin, founder of the NW organization, which houses around 1600 madrassas throughout Indonesia. In addition, we also used documents written by his students. As for the interviews, we carried out with three key informants. We concluded that Sufi rituals as the educational traditions in the NW madrassas are the original traditions of the Sufis which were rebuilt and modified both in terms of practice and material. The emergence of these traditions in two ways. Some of it arises through the bottom, which was traditions that occurred spontaneously, and partly arise through the above, namely a tradition that occurs utilizing being planned, promoted, and emphasized. The process of changing the old Sufi tradition into the NW version is in line with the formulation of the sociologist, Piotr Sztompka. He argues that changing tradition is a necessity, and human psychology always wants to realize its ideas. Besides, the clash between one tradition with another encourages changes in a tradition.

The soul is an unseen entity created by Allah and is the essence of human life and some other beings. The souls are blown into the foetus by the angels during the prenatal stage in the womb. It is explained in the Hadith narrated by Ibn Mas'ūd RA's which is also the ground for the issue regarding the entrance of the soul into the human body. The question is, what is the discussion and perspective of the muḥaddithīn scholars about the Hadith. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explain the source of the Hadith and to focus on the muḥaddithīn discussions on both the riwāyah and the rhäyah. The framework of this study is qualitative, which draws from library data, especially turath (classical) books in the science of Hadith, as well as descriptive analysis. The focus of the study is on the issue of the breathing in of the soul into the foetus, despite other themes in the Hadith. Past studies/This study found that this Hadith was narrated in eight primary sources of Hadith. The authors of the books of Hadith placed the Hadith in this study under three main themes; whether it's about the creation of man, the writing of destiny, or the role of the angels who blow the souls into the foetus. The Hadith of the study is also discussed from various other perspectives, which still related to the soul. In conclusion, this paper presented a fact about the unseen world that cannot be grasped by modern medical science.
