The J/ψπ → ]]> ]]> ]]> ]]> ]]> bar{rm D}{rm D}^*$, D$bar{rm D}^*$, $bar{rm D}$D and $bar{rm D}^*$D$^*$ cross sections as a function of √{s} are evaluated in a QCD sum rule calculation. A review of strange particle production in heavy ion collisions at incident energies from SIS up to 40 A·GeV is presented. A statistical model assuming chemical equilibrium and local strangeness conservation (i.e. strangeness conservation per collision) describes most of the observed features. It is demonstrated that the K- production at SIS energies occurs predominantly via strangeness exchange and that this channel is approaching chemical equilibrium. The observed maximum in the K+/π+ excitation function is also seen in the ratio of strange to non-strange particle production. The appearance of this maximum around 30 A·GeV is due to the energy dependence of the chemical freeze-out parameters temperature T and baryo-chemical potential μB.

A meson-exchange model, based on effective Lagrangians including anomalous parity interactions, is used to calculate the cross section for the dissociation of J/ψ by pions. Off-shell effects at the vertices are included with QCD sum rule estimates for the coupling constants and form factors. The total J/ψ–π cross section was found to be 10–11 mb for 4.2 ≤ √{s} ≤ 5 GeV.

Spectra and correlations from RHIC are analyzed to determine the phase space density and total entropy. The phase space density for pions is higher and the entropy is thus lower than some expectations, but there seems to be enough entropy carried by other species, especially baryons, to roughly match the total entropy expected from lattice gauge calculations.

We discuss the hadron production in heavy ion collisions by the recombination and fragmentation model. We propose the elliptic flow as the useful tool for exploring final interactions for resonances, hadron structure for exotic particles and phase structure.

New experimental results of NA49 on hyperon production in central Pb+Pb collisions at the SPS energies are presented. In particular, measurements of Λ production at 30 A·GeV and Ξ and Ω production at 40 A·GeV are shown. Transverse mass spectra and rapidity distributions of hyperons at different energies are compared. The energy dependence of the particle yields and ratios is discussed.

In this contribution the energy dependence of various hadronic observables as measured by the NA49 experiment in the beam energy range between 20 and 158 AGeV is presented. These include mt and rapidity distributions, particle ratio fluctuations, as well as HBT radii. The data are put in the context of results from the AGS and RHIC.
