Contact Interactions at Future Circular Collider Based Muon–Proton Colliders 未来基于μ介子-质子对撞机的环形对撞机中的接触相互作用

Recently proposed Future Circular Collider based muon-proton colliders will allow investigating lepton-hadron interactions at the highest center-of-mass energy. In this study, we investigate the potential of these colliders for a four-fermion contact interactions search. Regarding the constructive and destructive interferences of contact interactions, we estimated discovery, observation, and exclusion limits on the compositeness scale for the left-left, right-right, left-right, and right-left helicity structures. This study’s findings show that the FCC-based µp colliders have great potential for investigating four-fermion contact interactions.

Martinus Veltman was the first to point out the inconsistency of the experimental value for the decay rate of π0 → γγ and its calculation by J. Steinberger with the very successful concept of the pion as the (pseudo)Nambu-Goldstone boson of the spontaneously broken global axial symmetry of strong interactions. That inconsistency has been resolved by J. Bell and R. Jackiw in their famous paper on the chiral anomalies. We review the connection between the decay amplitudes of an axion into two gauge bosons in Abelian vector-like and chiral gauge theories. The axion is the Nambu-Goldstone boson of a spontaneously broken axial global symmetry of the theory. Similarly as for the vector-like gauge theory, also in the chiral one the axion decay amplitude is uniquely determined by the anomaly of the current of that global symmetry. Certain subtlety in the calculation of the anomaly in chiral gauge theories is emphasised. Quantum features of the baryon number fluctuations in subsystems of a hot and dense relativistic gas of fermions are analyzed. We find that the fluctuations in small systems are significantly increased compared to their values known from the statistical physics, and diverge in the limit where the system size goes to zero. The numerical results obtained for a broad range of the thermodynamic parameters expected in heavy-ion collisions are presented. They can be helpful to interpret and shed new light on the experimental data.

From Elastic Scattering to Central Exclusive Production: Physics with Forward Protons at RHIC 从弹性散射到中心排他性产生:RHIC的前向质子物理学

We describe a physics program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) with tagged forward protons. The program started with the proton–proton elastic scattering experiment (PP2PP), for which a set of Roman Pot stations was built. The PP2PP experiment took data at RHIC as a dedicated experiment at the beginning of RHIC operations. To expand the physics program to include non-elastic channels with forward protons, such as Central Exclusive Production (CEP), Central Production (CP) and Single Diffraction Dissociation (SD), the experiment with its equipment was merged with the STAR experiment at RHIC. Consequently, the expanded program, which included both elastic and inelastic channels became a part of the physics program and operations of the STAR experiment. In this paper, we shall describe the physics results obtained by the PP2PP and STAR experiments to date.

Dedicated to the memory of Prof. Veltman, one of the founding fathers of our discipline: his legacy lives on. Many times we have to turn back and follow his footprints to find the right path. After reviewing general aspects of high energy physics where he gave a seminal contribution we will introduce recent developments in the standard model effective field theory, showing how the whole movement from renormalization to predictions plays from Veltman to SMEFT.

Superharmonic Double-well Systems with Zero-energy Ground States: Relevance for Diffusive Relaxation Scenarios 零能量基态的超谐双阱系统:与扩散弛豫情形的相关性

Relaxation properties (specifically time-rates) of the Smoluchowski diffusion process on a line, in a confining potential U(x) ∼ x, m = 2n ≥ 2, can be spectrally quantified by means of the affiliated Schrödinger semigroup exp(−tĤ), t ≥ 0. The inferred (dimensionally rescaled) motion generator Ĥ = −∆ + V(x) involves a potential function V(x) = ax − bx, a = a(m), b = b(m) > 0, which for m > 2 has a conspicuous higher degree (superharmonic) double-well form. For each value of m > 2, Ĥ has the zero-energy ground state eigenfunction ρ 1/2 ∗ (x), where ρ∗(x) ∼ exp−[U(x)] stands for the Boltzmann equilibrium pdf of the diffusion process. A peculiarity of Ĥ is that it refers to a family of quasi-exactly solvable Schrödinger-type systems, whose spectral data are either residual or analytically unavailable. As well, no numerically assisted procedures have been developed to this end. Except for the ground state zero eigenvalue and incidental trial-error outcomes, lowest positive energy levels (and energy gaps) of Ĥ are unknown. To overcome this obstacle, we develop a computer-assisted procedure to recover an approximate spectral solution of Ĥ for m > 2. This task is accomplished for the relaxation-relevant low part of the spectrum. By admitting larger values of m (up tom = 104), we examine the spectral ”closeness” of Ĥ , m ≫ 2 on R and the Neumann Laplacian ∆N in the interval [−1, 1], known to generate the Brownian motion with two-sided reflection.

The Continuum Linear Dilaton 连续体线性扩张

Continuum spectra can be a way out to alleviate the tension generated by the elusiveness of narrow resonances of new physics in direct experimental searches. Motivated by the latter, we consider the linear dilaton model with a continuum spectrum of KK modes. It is provided by a critical exponential bulk potential for the scalar field stabilizing the distance, between the UV boundary at $y=0$ and a naked (good) singularity at $y=y_s$, in proper coordinates, which corresponds in conformal coordinates to $z_stoinfty$. The cutoff $M_s$ in this theory is an intermediate scale $M_ssimeq 10^{-5}M_{rm Pl}$ and the warped factor solves the hierarchy between $M_s$ and the TeV, while the hierarchy between $M_{rm Pl}$ and $M_s$ has to be solved by a (Little) String Theory with coupling $g_ssimeq 10^{-5}$. The Standard Model is localized on a 4D IR brane. The graviton and radion Green's and spectral functions have a continuum of states with a TeV mass gap, and isolated poles consisting on the 4D graviton and the light radion/dilaton. We construct the effective field theory below the mass gap where the continua of KK modes are integrated out, generating a set of dimension eight operators which contribute to low energy electroweak precision observables, and high energy violation of unitarity in vector boson scattering processes. The radion mass depends on the stabilizing UV brane potential and its wave function is localized toward the IR which enhances its coupling with the SM fields.

The cutoff $M_s$ in this theory is an intermediate scale $M_ssimeq 10^{-5}M_{rm Pl}$ and the warped factor solves the hierarchy between $M_s$ and the TeV, while the hierarchy between $M_{rm Pl}$ and $M_s$ has to be solved by a (Little) String Theory with coupling $g_ssimeq 10^{-5}$. The Standard Model is localized on a 4D IR brane. The graviton and radion Green's and spectral functions have a continuum of states with a TeV mass gap, and isolated poles consisting on the 4D graviton and the light radion/dilaton. We construct the effective field theory below the mass gap where the continua of KK modes are integrated out, generating a set of dimension eight operators which contribute to low energy electroweak precision observables, and high energy violation of unitarity in vector boson scattering processes. We reemphasize that the ratio Rsμ ≡ B(Bs → μμ̄)/∆Ms is a measure of the tension of the Standard Model (SM) with latest measurements of B(Bs → μμ̄) that does not suffer from the persistent puzzle on the |Vcb| determinations from inclusive versus exclusive b→ c`ν̄ decays and which affects the value of the CKM element |Vts| that is crucial for the SM predictions of both B(Bs → μμ̄) and ∆Ms, but cancels out in the ratio Rsμ. In our analysis we include higher order electroweak and QED corrections und adapt the latest hadronic input to find a tension of about 2σ for Rsμ measurements with the SM independently of |Vts|. We also discuss the ratio Rdμ which could turn out, in particular in correlation with Rsμ, to be useful for the search for New Physics, when the data on both ratios improves. After the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, particle physics has entered an exciting era. An important question is whether the Standard Model of particle physics correctly describes the scalar sector realized by nature, or whether it is part of a more extended model, featuring additional particle content. A prime way to test this is to probe models with extended scalar sectors at future collider facilities. We here discuss such models in the context of high-luminosity LHC, a possible proton-proton collider with 27 and 100 TeV center-of-mass energy, as well as future lepton colliders with various center-of-mass energies.
