Polarizing optical microscopy is used to investigate the isothermal and non-isothermal crystallization of the 3F6FPhF6 compound, which exhibits the smectic C ∗ and smectic C ∗ A phases. A large hysteresis of above 20 K in the smectic C ∗ /smectic C ∗ A phase transition is reported. The kinetics of non-isothermal crystallization is analyzed by means of the continuous cooling transition diagram. The cooling rate necessary for at least partial vitrification of the smectic C ∗ A phase is estimated. The relationship between the thermodynamic driving force of crystallization and thermal energy of the translational degrees of freedom is shown to have a strong impact on crystallization.

In this report, peculiarities of magnetoresistive properties of nanostructured (Ni 80 Fe 20 ) x Au 1 − x thin films containing from 10 to 60 at.% of Au were investigated. We focus on the samples with a thickness of 45 nm fabricated by the method of electron-beam co-evaporation. The influence of Au atoms concentration and the annealing process within the temperature range from 300 to 700 K on the microstructure, magnitude, and nature of magnetoresistive effects has been discussed. The analysis of electronographic studies showed that both face-centered cubic Ni 3 Fe and Au phases are visible in the diffraction images. Upon varying thin film compositions and annealing conditions, the phase state does not change. At the same time, magnetoresistive properties of thin films demonstrated a strong dependence on both the concentration of sample components and annealing conditions. Samples after deposition showed typical giant magnetoresistance behavior at 20–46 at.% of Au, which is also typical for samples annealed at 400 and 500 K. The transition to the anisotropic nature of magnetoresistance occurs upon annealing at 500 K.

This work aims to investigate the chemical and physical properties of water activated by a microwave-induced plasma jet in the system. In this work, the activation of water was studied by plasma microwave using argon gas. To study the physical and chemical properties of water, 10 cm 3 of distilled water was placed in a container made of glass in the form of a dish with a diameter of 5 cm and a depth of 1 cm. The system operates by microwave, with a sustain voltage to the magnetron of 150 V and exposure times ranging from 1 to 10 min. Underflows of 0.7, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.1 l/min of reactive oxygen/nitrogen species types were measured using kits purchased from an American manufacturer, Bartovation, for this purpose. The results showed the concentrations of NO 2 , NO 3 , and H 2 O 2 , increasing with time as well as with the flow rate. With the exposure time, the pH decreases until it reaches 4, and the temperature increases until it reaches 37.2 ◦ C; however, the pH increases with the storage time, and the water reaches its natural state with a pH of 7 after 24 h of storage. The concentration of NO 2 and NO 3 increases slightly, and after 6 h, it begins to decrease exponentially, reaching a value close to zero after the passage of 24 h. From that, it can be concluded that the microwave-induced plasma jet system can produce reactive oxygen/nitrogen species, which can be used for biological applications.

Gamma-irradiated samples of the polyethylene/CdS + ZnS (PE/CdS + ZnS) composite were studied by electron paramagnet resonance and Fourier infrared spectroscopy methods. Based on the electron para-magnet resonance spectra, the nature of the induced paramagnetic radiation defects and their quantitative dependence on the absorbed dose of gamma radiation are identified. It has been established that the studied polymer composites have a higher radiation resistance in the range of absorption doses D γ = 30–100 kGy compared to pure polymer. The obtained results were confirmed by Fourier infrared spectroscopy, and it was shown that the observed changes are associated with a change in the supramolecular structure of PE/CdS + ZnS irradiated with γ -quanta

Structural and electronic properties of the lutetium nitride (001) surface have been studied with the density functional theory calculations and ab initio thermodynamics. A clean termination may be obtained in a wide range of the N chemical potential, whereas terminations with N vacancies and Lu adatoms may only be formed in Lu-rich conditions. The clean termination exhibits relatively small relaxations of interlayer distances near the surface, which leads to little changes in electronic properties compared to the bulk case. The presence of N vacancies and Lu adatoms may result in charge imbalance at the LuN surface. The findings presented in this work encourage further experimental search for novel rare earth nitride materials.

An extended car-following model is presented in this paper, which considers both gradient and estimated headway. The study analyzes the impact of these factors on traffic flow stability using linear stability theory and the nonlinear reductive perturbation method. Numerical simulation reveals that the kink– antikink solution of the modified Korteweg–de Vries equation can describe the propagating behavior of traffic density waves near critical points. Furthermore, considering estimated headway information enhances traffic flow stability on both slope roads and flat roads, indicating its crucial role in alleviating congestion.
