[The periosteum in experimental avian hyperostosis induced by MAV 2-0 myeloblastosis virus. Differential diagnosis from osteopetrosis]. MAV 2-0型成髓细胞病病毒诱导的实验性禽骨质增生的骨膜。骨质疏松的鉴别诊断[j]。

Diaphyseal tibial bones of 11-14-17 th day-old hatched chicks infected with retrovirus myeloblastic MAV 2-0 were examined by conventional optical microscopy. The characteristic lesion is osteoblastic hyperplasia with the development of spongious bone. The new formed bone contains abnormal chondroid tissue. The relation between osseous and cartilaginous tissues in this experimental model is discussed. As connective tissue took part in the constitution of this hyperostosis, this osteopathy may be considered as an hyperplastic, monodermic mesenchymatous, pluritissular tumour. The numerous works concerning the "avian hyperostosis osteopetrosis" are commented.

Degeneration of interstitial gland cells of normal and irradiated dog ovary. 正常和辐照犬卵巢间质腺细胞变性。

The interstitial gland cells of the ovary were studied by electron microscopy in seven Beagle dogs during advanced metestrus. Additionally, the findings of three dogs with an increased activation of the interstitial gland cells after 12 Gy whole-body X-irradiation were also presented. Three groups of interstitial gland cells were distinguished: the immature, the mature and the degenerating cells. The steroid-specific cell organelles of mature interstitial cells were highly developed after irradiation-induced stimulation. At the onset of generation, a circular arrangement of dilated endoplasmic vesicles (demarcation channel) characterized the cells of non-irradiated and of irradiated ovaries. During the early stage of degeneration, different degrees of nuclear shrinkage and of vacuolation of the cytoplasm were seen. A lace-like vacuolation was common in the irradiated ovaries. During the advanced stage of degeneration, the cysts ruptured with resultant shedding of the cytoplasmic organelles into the intercellular space. A new cellular membrane was simultaneously reconstituted and a fibrocyte-like cell appeared. The process is referred as "secretory degeneration" and is presented as a hypothesis.

Ultrastructure of venom glands in the frog (Rana esculenta). 蛙(Rana esculenta)毒液腺的超微结构。

Electron microscopic study of skin venom glands in the frog, Rana esculenta, revealed the syncytial structure of the inner (secretory) wall which presents two distinct zones: a basal (juxtamuscular) one, which contains nuclei and major cytoplasmic organelles, and an apical one where large electron-dense granules form and accumulate. Granules are seen to arise inside clusters of tightly packed smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) elements, which suggests that the SER system is mainly involved in synthesis of this material. A high glutaraldehyde concentration (5%) also reveals a poorly defined material filling the intergranular cytoplasm. No apical limits to the syncytium could be traced, which suggests massive holocrine secretion. Nerves insinuate between the muscle cells and occur all along the internal face of the muscular layer, sometimes in close contact with the syncytium. The gland duct, the wall of which consists of epidermal cells, is blocked, in contact with the gland, by an epidermal bud linked externally to the muscle layer surrounding the gland. Thus, only strong muscle tension such as to expel all or part of the epidermal bud can trigger granule release. This phenomenon can be induced by the subcutaneous injection of epinephrine, but the high and distressing dose needed to provoke appreciable changes in venom glands renders unlikely any natural intense venom release triggered by epinephrine in the frog.
