[Mineral metabolism in man under altered gravitation]. [重力变化下人体的矿物质代谢]。

The book contains data about the functions and the metabolism of mineralized tissues, and the results of investigations of bone tissue and calcium metabolism during manned space missions and ground-based simulations. Consideration is given to the bone strength characteristics under experimental hypo- and hypergravity. The role of hormonal and physical/chemical factors in the mechanisms of iron control alterations in man during space missions of various lengths is analyzed. Evaluated is the efficiency of different countermeasures opposing the shifts in electrolyte exchange and bone mineral losses in these conditions. A concept is proposed for hypogravity-induced changes in the mineral metabolism and bone tissue status. The book is addressed to biologists, physiologists, biochemists, specialists in space biology and aerospace medicine.

[The modern problems of space cell phytobiology]. [现代太空细胞植物生物学问题]。

This monograph has summarized the results of space experiments fulfilled over the last 25 years on lower and higher plants cell and tissue cultures in vitro being physiologically active during the space mission. A considerable attention has been paid to the calcium ions role in biological effects at the cellular and subcellular levels of microgravity and clinostating, physical-chemical features of cytoplasmic membrane and lipid peroxidation of plant cells under conditions of gravity variations. The rearrangement patterns of the plant cell structural-functional organization affected by microgravity and clinostating and probable mechanisms of cell adaptation to these factors are discussed.

[Biophysical foundations of the effect of cosmic radiation and accelerator radiation]. [宇宙辐射和加速器辐射效应的生物物理基础]。

This book summaries the results of numerous studies, mainly by Soviet investigators, of the characteristics of radiation effects of high energy cosmic rays and of their simulation by heavy charged particle accelerators, and also of their biological effects. It contains the first systematic presentation of data on specific hadron effects. Facts are given showing the ability of these particles to cause profound local damage in tissues and organs. There is evidence that these particles should be considered one of the main factors limiting the duration of space flights. In the book a generalized kinetic model of radiation-induced cellular damage also is presented. This model allows an explanations of the observed changes in dose related survival with increasing LET and dose-rate, based on microdosimetric conceptions.
