Almost all work is done in groups. Although groups all have the twin characteristics of striving to accomplish a common task and serving the needs of members, the variety of groups is enormous. Seventeen types of groups found in work settings are discussed. Norms and roles are also discussed because these are the rules for membership and the job descriptions which groups create and enforce for their own use.

Recently, four new oral anticoagulant – dabigatran etexilate (direct thrombin inhibitor) and rivaroxaban, apixaban and edoxaban (Xa factor direct inhibitor) – have been approved for the prevention of venous thrombosis and cardiovascular events. As the number of patients taking these drugs is increasing, it is important that the dentist is familiar with these new oral anticoagulants, their indications, methods of action and in particular the management of the patients undergoing oral surgery. This literature review is conducted to highlight the medical uses of these new oral anticoagulants and their pharmacologic properties, the clinical condition of the patient that may influence the choice to discontinue the DOAC and peri-operative management of the patient. Collaboration with the attending physician is crucial.

Treatment of patients with extremely resorbed jaws is a major public health challenge. Anatomo-physiological Diskimplants (APD) and microthreaded, self-tapping, smooth surface root-form implants (APR) were developed in the early 2000s to overcome these difficulties. Used with an immediate functional loading procedure, patients can be equipped with fixed teeth 48 hr. post-op. Application of bone matrix Osseotensors to activate the patient’s own stem cells improves both the initial bone quality and neoangiogenesis, thereby reinforcing the highly atrophic recipient bone sites for placement of these implants. This combined approach allows the surgeon to manage completely resorbed jaws in a much simpler and safer manner than previously thought possible.

Periodontitis is the inflammatory disease that leads to destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth. The early diagnosis and treatment of periodontitis is always not possible as the periodontitis progress with minimal or no pain. Regenerative medicine is the field that uses exogenous or endogenous stem cells for the regeneration of the lost periodontal tissues. This case report presents about salvaging a molar which was of poor prognosis and at the verge of extraction using Amniotic Membrane as a barrier membrane in the procedure of Guided Tissue Regeneration.

Role of Laminin in Oral Carcinogenesis

Oral carcinogenesis is characterized by significant alterations occurring at the phenotypic and genotypic level resulting in uncontrolled proliferation and evasion of apoptosis. With growing tumor mass, a switch of metabolism and angiogenesis becomes important for the further development of the disease. Invasion and subsequent metastasis of the malignant cells are basic requirement for tumor promotion and progression. Cell migration plays an important in embryogenesis, inflammatory immune response, wound healing and cancer invasion. One of the important factors responsible for the tumor progression is the alteration seen in extracellular matrix proteins. Extracellular matrix (ECM) includes a group of structural proteins, glycoproteins, and proteoglycans that function as a physical scaffold to maintain tissue structure and provides biochemical signals to modulate cellular function. Basement membranes are thin layers of ECM that form the supporting structure under epithelial and endothelial cells. The protein composition of basement membrane is mainly inclusive of type IV collagen, laminins, entactins, and proteoglycans. Laminin is biologically active part of the basement membrane and influences cell differentiation, migration and cell adhesion. They are an important and biologically active component of the basal lamina, influencing cell differentiation, migration, and adhesion. Laminin reflects the integrity of basement membrane better than the other extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and thus, may be used as a marker suggestive of the basement membrane status during tumorigenesis. Oral squamous cell carcinoma is an important epithelial malignancy and altered laminin expression in OSCC is an important process in its invasion and metastasis. An understanding of the role of laminin in OSCC may aid in its utility as a biomarker to determine the prognosis and treatment planning of OSCC.

Aim: the aim of this article is to assess the importance of masticatory muscles balance evaluation before improving vertical dimension through conservative and restorative techniques. It also shows how a multidisciplinary approach is needed to obtain a better result for the patient. Background: Bruxism is defined as the parafunctional activity of grinding or clenching of teeth. Management of severe worn dentition in patients with bruxism is challenging since this condition can lead to loss of tooth structure and occlusal vertical dimension (OVD). In some cases the impossibility to correct the proclination of the maxillary incisors occurs due to the posterior tooth wear.Case Description: an orthodontic alignment was obtained after having improved posterior vertical dimension according to an electromyographical analysis using Teethan® electromyographic system. The activity of anterior temporals and masseters was controlled and balanced by electromyography at every step of the treatment. Conclusion: an unbalanced dental occlusal function can compromise the stability of an orthodontic treatment; it is important an evaluation from different points of view in order to rehabilitate the patient in his complex.Clinical significance: electromyography proved itself to be a useful tool in the hands of the clinician to check the oral muscles balance and to avoid temporomandibular joint (TMJ) overload in restorative dentistry, prosthodontics and orthodontics.
