IPE summits can be used as a mechanism to have students from multiple disciplines explore ethical issues, define professional roles and responsibilities, and encourage interdisciplinary discussion. Students can be facilitated in this process through questions related to each member's role and scope of practice. The goals for students participating in these types of activities are to expand the students' knowledge of other health professions and to promote interprofessional understanding of other health professionals' roles and responsibilities to patient care. It is hopeful that students will reflect upon the identification of healthcare professional roles and responsibilities and use such opportunities to collaborate in ways to improve patient outcomes.
