The Authors, on the basis of 9 casual radiographic observations of thoracic aortic ectasy in subjects affected of neoplasms and previously treated with antitumoral drugs, hypothesize a possible correlation between the use of adriamycin and the appearance of the aortic lesion. So, they suggest an experimental study on 12 rabbits. They administered adriamycin 2 mg/kg twice weekly for 5 weeks to 8 rabbits. The other 4 rabbits are considered as control group. After 24 hours from the end of treatment the Authors sacrifice 4 treated rabbits and 2 controls, and they examine the heart and the thoracoabdominal aorta. This procedure is repeated at 21th day in the other 4 treated rabbits and in the controls. The histopathological examinations show in the treated group the appearance of lesions especially in the media. These lesions are the elastic fragmentation, the medionecrosis and the cystic necrosis, they can be responsible of aortic ectasy.

Ex novo Kaposi's Sarcoma 4 months after renal transplantation in a young patient is described. Progression of the tumoral lesions has been observed during combined immunosuppressive treatment with Prednisone, Azathioprine and Cyclosporin. Stopping Azathioprine and Cyclosporin as well as reducing Prednisone prevented new lesions and made the preexistent skin lesions less extensive. Clinical case, possible pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies are discussed.

The authors intended verifying the effectiveness of natural beta-interferon in the treatment of metastatic pleural effusion from breast's cancer. 24 patient, with an average age of 54, were studied. The objective responses were: 2 Complete Responses, 8 Partial Responses, 6 Stationarity and 5 Progression. The responses seem independent from the association of systemic treatment. Clinical response has been observed in patients with initial pleural effusion less than or equal to 1000 cc.

A case of leiomyoblastoma in the small intestine is illustrated. The patient underwent first and iliac resection and then, 36 months later, a removal of multiple hepatic metastasis. The authors recall as the benign appearance of a leiomyoblastoma sometimes in only apparent, so that it's quite difficult predicting its evolution. Not any histological method can give express an available valuation about the neoplasm malignant potency.

Between 1950 and 1984 out of 57.393 women who delivered at the First Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Catania University Medical School, Catania, Italy, 40 cases of malignant neoplasia were diagnosed with an incidence of one case in 1.434 deliveries. The most frequent neoplasias is cervix carcinoma (21 cases; 52.5%), followed by breast cancer (6 cases; 15%), ovarian cancer (4 cases; 10%) and leukemia (4 cases; 10%). There was very rare association with Hodgkin disease (2 cases; 5%), osteosarcoma (1 case; 2.5%), medulloblastoma (1 case; 2.5%), and skin melanoma (1 case; 2.5%). Since cancer of the uterine cervix is the most frequent neoplasia (one cases out of 2.733 deliveries), cervical smear should be performed during pregnancy in women that never performed it.
