According to the in vitro and in vivo procedures described by Rockert and Pracros, the effect of different local anesthetics (with and without vaso-constrictive solution) have been studied on rat incisor dental pulp. Histological analysis (optical microscopy) of samples (90 rat incisors) showed: A systematic pulp response with concentrations up to 2%. This response correspond with a toxic reaction on the respiratory activity of pulp cells; A highest response with solutions containing a vaso-constrictor additive; An increasing response according to the nature of the anesthetic solution.

The Canal Master is a new instrument for root canal preparation. Its working portion measures 2 mm and this instrument presents a non aggressive tip. This technique uses mechanical instruments for the straight portion of the canal and manual instruments for the curved portion. Clinically this technique gives good results but is more longer than others.

A clinical study involving 30 patients randomly selected in the department of endodontics at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut and in private practice was carried out. The use of "Obtura", a high-heat thermoplasticized gutta-percha system seems to be satisfactory, the findings stressed the advantages and the disadvantages of the technique and the material. Some suggestions are advanced in order to make the use of the technique easier and more efficient.

A statistical study has been conducted in order to study the efficiency of an "R.C.M. apex locator" in endodontometry. The study is based on 97 electronic measurements in vivo, all samples being controlled in vitro by X-Ray examination after extraction of the teeth, the instrument remaining in the canal. Results showed that the "R.C.M. apex locator" allows a success rate of 85% length recorded being short of beyond the apex by 0.5 mm.

This study compared the effectiveness of nine root-canal preparation techniques of fluorotic teeth. Seventy-three canal systems from 53 extracted human fluorotic teeth were instrumented. Pre-and postinstrumentation measurements were taken of the root canal systems in the cervical, middle and apical thirds; they proved the efficiency of the method using Rispi and Helifile. The results of this study were also extrapolated to the clinical situation.

Four endodontic sealers were compared with two series of tests, in thin layer and in 10 mm long and 5 mm diameter rods. Under these conditions, the Pulp Canal Sealer showed the best ability to present a thin layer and the same flow than the Cortisomol. Its setting time was 15 minutes. Forty-eight hours later, the Sealite showed a very good tightness compared to the other sealers. At 30 days, the Pulp Canal Sealer and the OZn-Eugénol were the tightest ones. Less water was absorbed with the Cortisomal and the Sealite. Is there, for these sealers, any correlation between water-absorbtion and tightness?

The biocompatibility of a light curing glass ionomer cement was studied for its pulpal effect when used as a capping agent in a dentin cavity. Pulpal pressure and temperature were recorded in 14 dog canines after placement of the glass ionomer cement. No increase was observed in 12 specimens on 14 samples. These results indicate that no pulpal effect can be demonstrated when using Vitrabond as a dentin capping agent.

Dye penetration following obturation of standardized access cavities with three different ready to use temporary cements was compared (Cavit G, Dentorit and Ciprospad). Leakage and dye penetration of the materials were simultaneously evaluated. Ciprospad appears to be the most adapted material.

This study of the efficiency of endodontic tools in a linear motion values different parameters. The cross section seems to be the most important factor. The triangular section instruments are more efficient than the square section ones, but are more easily worn. The helical angle, the outline and the diameter have no influence on the efficiency.
