Occlusal dysfunction is explained on the light of neuromuscular theory. The emphasis is focused on the interaction of occlusion and posture, the way posture modifies occlusion and occlusion modifies posture. The author proposes to include occlusal dysfunction in the wider group of postural dysfunctions defining if this disfunction is originated in occlusal parameters or in postural conditions when the diagnosis is made.

In this article the authors explain extensively the importance of diagnosis before any operation. The authors explain in detail the surgical's phases in general and they go in the depth in many facets of different patients to be treated, differentiating the lower jaw from the upper maxillar and also patients that are totally or partially edentulous. They underline the importance of surgical's templates in order to place fixtures in right places.

We present a clinical case of a temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction pain syndrome treated with occlusal rehabilitation consisting on ceramometalic prosthodontic restorations. The result obtained after five years of evolution is excellent, due to the use of adequate technical and clinical procedures together with suitable hygienic habits and the post-treatment establishment of an occlusal splint used exclusively at night.

The influence of divergent splint-adjusted maximum intercuspation on head posture during prolonged phases of clenching was studied in five subjects. During clenching in maximum intercuspation profound changes of head posture were observed, if intercuspation was not harmonized with an upright posture of head and body. Since the interrelation between occlusion and head posture is established a comprehensive approach of orthopedic, physiotherapeutic, and dental measures, in particular for the therapy of myoarthropathy patients with cervical spine symptoms seems appropriate. Occlusal corrections and determination of occlusal relations must always be made or at least checked in the upright relaxed patient with the head straight.

An examination was carried out of the records of 2500 patients who attended the University Dental School and Hospital, Cork, Republic of Ireland during the period 1981-1986. 3.6% of these patients were found to have factors which put them at risk of developing bacterial endocarditis. Mention is made of the level of risk factors elsewhere in Ireland and in the U.S.A. The morbidity rate, mortality, dental aetiology, and prophylaxis of bacterial endocarditis are covered briefly.
