The study was undertaken to determine the effect of topical fluoride treatment on the enamel surface in the direct bonding system. In this in vitro study, the enamel surfaces of the sample teeth that were subjected to the acidic phosphate fluoride treatment, the basic phosphate fluoride treatment and the only orthophosphoric acid treatment were examined in the S.E.M. Scanning electron photomicrographs were taken at magnifications x2000 and x5000. The overall etching effect on the enamel surface treated with the basic phosphate fluoride solution was very similar to sample surface etched with orthophosphoric acid. It was concluded that there wasn't any differences about mechanical retention specialty at surface characteristics.

The loss of osseous support resulting from periodontal disease is an etiological factor in the development of secondary malocclusions. Correction of these malocclusions demand a) advanced techniques, b) an understanding of the biological situation present in the patient with periodontal disease and c) adaptation of these techniques and forces to the reduced support. According to the treatment of malocclusion there are improvements in plaque accumulation and the distribution of occlusal forces. These factors, maintain the long term health of the teeth and their periodontium. These kind of treatment requires the maximum interdisciplinary collaboration.

It has been known that orthodontic appliances have been a local etiologic factor contributing to periodontal problems. Properly executed tooth movement should be accompanied by a more favorable periodontal response rather than an adverse reaction. Today guiding the patient's orthodontic therapy with fixed and removable appliances requires a sophisticated knowledge of the periodontium. The purpose of this article is to describe several interrelationships between orthodontics and periodontics and to highlight frequent problem areas.

Functional appliances are very efficient devices in correcting the orthopedic malocclusions. In order to use such an appliance, active growth spurt is recommended. Herbst appliance is a device that doesn't need patient's cooperation. In this article we tried to explain the Herbst appliance and wanted to show 3 cases were treated by us.

Also, it is considered that after a 24 month clinical and post-operative radiographic follow-up of the case the vitality of the tooth is maintained and the root resorption avoided.

Protrusive splint therapy is applied for the preventive treatment on the patients with temporomandibular joint anterior disc displacement. When the treatment becomes successful, the main treatment methods are applied. These methods are selective grinding, orthodontic and/or prosthetic applications. In this paper, three different orthodontic treatments are applied for three patients who has undergone protrusive splint therapy.

Sometimes a maxillary permanent first molar, erupts mesially and causes both resorption on primary second molar and uncompletion its eruption. Consequently, this will end up early loss of primary second molar and loss of space in the arch length. It has been suggested several methods for ectopic eruption treatment. In this article, we would like to advocate an appliance which is simple, effective and easy to fabricate for early treatment of ectopic eruption.

With the purpose of investigating the effect of cervical headgear on the cant of the occlusal plane; 7 males and 13 females as the experimental group, 7 males and 13 females as the control group summing up to a total of 40 individuals were included in this study. The experimental group was composed of 20 subjects whose cronological age mean was 9 years 11 months and 13 had skeletal class 1 structures where the remaining 7 had skeletal 2 structures and all had clinically diagnosed as Angle Class II, 1 malocclusion cases while the lack of space in the upper arch was lower than 6 mm. In order to be able to identified the difference which might occur by growth and development, a control group of 20 subjects of which 13 had skeletal class 1, the remaining 7 had skeletal class 2 structures, was included in the study. Cervical Headgear which the outher bows ended at the projection of the distal points of the upper first permanent molars were bent parallel to the occlusal plane was applied to the experimental group. Extraoral force of 600 gr. was applied for 16 hours per day. A total of 80 cephalometric radiographs of all subjects included in this study were taken before and after the research period. The SN/Occ. plane angle which indicates the cant of occlusal plane was traced on the cephalometric radiographs. The cephalometric radiographs taken before and after the research period were locally registered for both maxilla and mandibula separately.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

An apexification procedure is performed on a maxillary left central incisor tooth of a fourteen years old girl who has chronic apical periodontitis and undergoing active orthodontic treatment. After a one-year clinical and radiological follow-up, formation of apical closure is observed. As a result, apexification can be suggested as a successful treatment procedure in such cases.

In this study was proposed to evaluate treatment results of the Class II, Division 1 cases whom were treated with the Balters's Bionator. The investigation was performed on ten patients who have Class II, Division 1 malocclusion. On the other hand, another group consisting of ten individuals who have Class II, Division 1 malocclusion and who haven't been treated before, has been selected control group. Treatment groups before and after the treatment and the control group at the beginning and at the end of the two years period having been taken lateral cephalometric films, statistical evaluation of the data which consist of angular and dimensional measurements has been realised. According to investigation, the changes of mandible and maxilla on Bionator's treatment group were taken placed both the dentoalveolar and skeletal level.
