The authors present three cases of cervical ribs discovered by computerized tomography (CT). This represents, to the authors' knowledge, the first such report. The radiologic appearance and relevant clinical findings of cervical ribs will be discussed.
Granulocytic sarcoma (chloroma) is an unusual tumour usually seen in cases of myelogenous leukemia. The tumour is most commonly located in the skull, orbits and sinuses. Extracranial tumours occur mainly in the soft tissues of the body and bone involvement is uncommonly seen and is almost invariably lytic in nature:. We describe the first case of CT demonstration of bone involvement by such a tumour. A mixed sclerotic and lytic pattern was seen.
Reported is a patient who presented with clinical obstructive jaundice caused by multiple myeloma involving the pancreatic head. This is a rare complication and a review of the literature showed only three similar reported cases.
Presence of gas in the prosthetic graft bed does not necessarily represent infection, but may rather be indicative of the presence of benign gas. The diagnostic and therapeutic implications of this finding are discussed.
A case of multiple myeloma which presented as a solitary intrasellar tumor is reported. The initial radiographic and light microscopic findings were interpreted as being consistent with pituitary adenoma. Subsequently, when systemic disease developed and a bone marrow biopsy demonstrated multiple myeloma, the histopathologic diagnosis of the sellar lesion was established retrospectively.
An unusual case of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis which had a 3 year follow-up is presented. Lack of perirenal extension probably accounted for its relatively asymptomatic course.
CT findings of a clinically occult abdominal aorto-caval fistula secondary to atherosclerotic abdominal aortic aneurysm are presented. A review of 20 CT's demonstrating nonruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm was conducted. This review, in conjunction with the case presented, suggests that extensive caval effacement, with loss of the aorto-caval fat plane is an uncommon finding, and may indicate the presence of a thrombotically occluded aorto-caval fistula.
