"The paper examines patterns of population change in Morocco for the decade 1971-1981. They do not mirror those which might have been expected in view of the national economic and spatial structure of this country. The differences are attributed to international economic forces which have transcended national forces in shaping population patterns in parts of the country."

"Inadequacies of the present migration data supply system in Scotland have been recently highlighted. The purpose of the present item is to enlarge upon problems of monitoring migration and in particular to draw attention to difficulties encountered in the use of the Register of Sasines as a migration data source. Finally, recent progress among Scottish local authorities in the matter of small area population estimation is documented."

"Mortality data for ischaemic heart disease and lung-bronchus cancer in the 29 metropolitan boroughs of London and the 37 electoral wards of Glasgow are standardised for age and sex relative to an all-U.K. norm. The standardised mortality ratios (S.M.R.) obtained, when expressed in map form, reveal marked spatial inequalities. A relationship with social class and concomitant housing and living standards is indicated."

Abstract The records of Canadian immigration authorities provide primary data for examining two fundamental features of emigration from Scotland to Canada in the last two decades. First, temporal variations in emigration level and composition are related to trends in employment and in immigrant selection policy. Second, the spatial pattern of movement, at both origin (Scottish regions) and destination (Canadian provinces), is interpreted through the influence of former spatial patterns of movement and contemporary socio‐economic forces.

Abstract In Rhodesia, as in many other countries of the Third World, rapid population growth aggravates development problems and compounds them with others of its own making. Problems are greatest in the African rural areas but prospects for development there are generally poor. Growth within the monetary sector as presently constituted can provide no more than a palliative. A new national strategy for development is required and this must be based on a comprehensive population policy.
