Since the theory of H. v. Thiinen was made public, there have been many studies of the circular patterns of agricultural managcment-systcms in compliance with the distance from a consumptive city. The agricultural system with mulch cow keeping, as one of the circular structures, is naturally situated in the inner zone in contact with the city as its city-milk-supply area and in the outer zone distant from it as its raw-milk-supply area. However, the farms keeping milch cows in Japan do not constitute such a simple arrangement. It is a matter of course that there is a clear difference between the theoretical circular structures and the geographical pattern because of the diverse nature of geographical environment. But the agriculture of Japan did not adopt milch cows originaly,(1) so it is unable to discuss the distortion of arrangement of milch-cow-keeping regions only from the view-point of geographical environment. For instance, TOkyO has been supplied its market milk from the area from all over the KantO Region to a part of the Chau Region.") But in Chiba Prefecture which is the nearest one to Tay& its whole production of milk is consumed more than 60% as raw milk, therefore the prefecture belongs to the group of raw-milkproducing prefectures. In Kanagawa, Gunma, Saita ma and Ibaragi Prefectures the raw milk percentages are 48-38%''. That is to say, the mulch cow keeping within the milkshed of Tokyo can not he recognized to coincide with that of the city-milk-supply area as a circular structure. The milk which is produced in Nagano Prefecture, the Chilbu Region, is transported to TOkyO for its marketmilk supply during summer, but in the other seasons the milk is almost consumed as raw milk. The amount of city milk consumed in the prefecture is very little
