COVID-19 has recently caused unprecedented changes to our society causing untold economic and psychological hardship. This study examined COVID-19 knowledge and gender differences on psychological distress (PD); and how social isolation and age influenced PD among 289 respondents in Nigeria. Majority of respondents have the knowledge of the disease (94.5%), modes of transmission (98.9%) symptoms (94.5%), suggesting prevalence of adequate knowledge of COVID-19. Government responses to the pandemic and palliatives were perceived to be largely insufficient. On the effect of knowledge on PD, the results revealed negative relationship while gender was significant on PD. Social isolation and age, both significantly shows positive relationship with the level of PD, indicating that PD increases as social isolation intensifies, and could worsen among the elderly. The study concludes that government needs to intensify awareness creation as well as incorporate psychological assistance to ease the fear and anxiety, thereby improving better health outcomes.

This study was carried out with the aim of validation of Emotion Awareness Questionnaire (EAQ) for Iranian students. Participants (700 children, 9 to 16-years-old) Children Depression Inventory (CDI), Worry Inventory for Children (WIC) were administered to investigate the convergent validity. The reliability was checked by Cronbach's alpha coefficient, the validity was calculated with factor analysis by the method of analysis of principal component. Exploratory factorial analysis by using varimax rotation indicated a robust seven-factor structure in the questionnaire correlation coefficient between total score of EAQ, CDI and WIC was significant. EAQ has appropriate validity and reliability for the population of Iranian Students and the findings revealed the significant advantage for further investigation.

Performance metrics of public hospitals in health resource poor environment should be considered crucial in the process of functional evaluation of the health sector. These metrics assume important dimensions in term of implication for service extension, stewardship and justifications of public resource expenditure. The present study utilised data envelopment analysis (DEA) methodology to shed light on the operational data of 32 government-owned hospitals in order to identify the magnitude of (in)efficiency in the hospital system. Results of DEA models indicate that 66.7% of these public hospitals are technically inefficient with overall average efficiency score of 0.73. In addition, 22 hospitals were found to be scale inefficient; 57.6% of these facilities being under increasing returns to scale regime. The study suggests a resource re-allocation strategy as well as managerial and policy initiatives focused on reducing costs of care.
