Towards Knowledge Maintenance in Scientific Digital Libraries with the Keystone Framework.
Yuanxi Fu, Jodi Schneider

Scientific digital libraries speed dissemination of scientific publications, but also the propagation of invalid or unreliable knowledge. Although many papers with known validity problems are highly cited, no auditing process is currently available to determine whether a citing paper's findings fundamentally depend on invalid or unreliable knowledge. To address this, we introduce a new framework, the keystone framework, designed to identify when and how citing unreliable findings impacts a paper, using argumentation theory and citation context analysis. Through two pilot case studies, we demonstrate how the keystone framework can be applied to knowledge maintenance tasks for digital libraries, including addressing citations of a non-reproducible paper and identifying statements most needing validation in a high-impact paper. We identify roles for librarians, database maintainers, knowledgebase curators, and research software engineers in applying the framework to scientific digital libraries.

Keynote: How Do You Lift an Elephant with One Hand?
J. Wilkin
There were tremendous challenges in creating HathiTrust. The resulting organization, digital preservation infrastructure, and collection contributes significant value to the library ecosystem. This shift to a complement of shared and local services argues for libraries to create more at-scale, shared initiatives to ensure a vital future for research libraries. We need to confront questions about why at-scale efforts are so uncommon.

Automating data citation: the eagle-i experience.
Abdussalam Alawini, Leshang Chen, Susan B Davidson, Natan Portilho Da Silva, Gianmaria Silvello

Data citation is of growing concern for owners of curated databases, who wish to give credit to the contributors and curators responsible for portions of the dataset and enable the data retrieved by a query to be later examined. While several databases specify how data should be cited, they leave it to users to manually construct the citations and do not generate them automatically. We report our experiences in automating data citation for an RDF dataset called eagle-i, and discuss how to generalize this to a citation framework that can work across a variety of different types of databases (e.g. relational, XML, and RDF). We also describe how a database administrator would use this framework to automate citation for a particular dataset.

Finding pages on the unarchived Web 在未存档的Web上查找页面
Hugo C. Huurdeman, Anat Ben-David, J. Kamps, Thaer Samar, A. D. Vries
Web archives preserve the fast changing Web, yet are highly incomplete due to crawling restrictions, crawling depth and frequency, or restrictive selection policies-most of the Web is unarchived and therefore lost to posterity. In this paper, we propose an approach to recover significant parts of the unarchived Web, by reconstructing descriptions of these pages based on links and anchors in the set of crawled pages, and experiment with this approach on the DutchWeb archive. Our main findings are threefold. First, the crawled Web contains evidence of a remarkable number of unarchived pages and websites, potentially dramatically increasing the coverage of the Web archive. Second, the link and anchor descriptions have a highly skewed distribution: popular pages such as home pages have more terms, but the richness tapers off quickly. Third, the succinct representation is generally rich enough to uniquely identify pages on the unarchived Web: in a known-item search setting we can retrieve these pages within the first ranks on average.

Increasing the visibility of library records via consortial search engine
Õ. Mets, S. Gstrein, Veronika Gründhammer
In this paper we describe a common search engine which currently comprises the records of public domain literature from 29 libraries across Europe. These libraries offer the EOD (eBooks on Demand) digitization on request service and make digitized materials available. The search engine (http://search.books2ebooks.eu) has been developed to enable users to browse the respective content simultaneously from several library catalogues. The current case study provides a description of the search engine, statistical trends of user engagement, and their implications. Our findings show the effectiveness of such collaboration, especially in terms of increasing the visibility of data and engaging new user groups. The lessons learned are to encourage the library community, including smaller language groups, for more active cooperation.
