Sex remains too often a taboo in the dialogue between parents and children. And this is a problem because kids know little or nothing about sexually transmitted diseases, which, according to the Higher Institute of Health, are growing. Moreover, adolescents are not even concerned about HIV risk. On the other hand, the age of the first relationship seems to be decreasing, increasingly promiscuous and anaffective: Adolescents seek pleasure but not falling in love. Even the school does little to provide information on the subject and therefore often, as indeed happened in the past generations, the source of (scarce) knowledge is friends, and social media. In this paper, we intend to analyze the relationship between sexual behavior of university students, risk behavior related to sexuality and the role of parents. Data derive from two surveys carried out in 2000 and 2017 and methods used is logistic regression. The aim of this paper consist therefore into verifying the following two hypotheses, also controlling the change over time in the behavior of young people: (i) The more the parents communicate with their children, the less are the risks for the adolescents; (ii) the more the risk behavior in the domains of alcohol, drug and driving, the more are the sexual risks for the adolescents.

Introduction: The most effective therapy for life-threatening blood disorders and bone marrow dysfunction is using hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). World wide, patients’ waiting lists for HSCT donor are increasing since the number of requirement is bigger than voluntary donors. The major reason behind inadequate number of donors is lacking of community awareness and low level of knowledge. Thus, this study aimed to assess medical students’ experience in donation, basic knowledge and attitudes regarding HSCT. Method: This study was carried out in Medicine College at Taif University. An online questionnaire was created and consisting of 23 questions. Result: showed 41.7% of medical students were not registered in Saudi stem cell donor registry (SSCDR). Only 1.7% of students have donated marrow in the past. However, 19.5% of them were donated blood and/or blood products previously. In this study, students showed low level of basic knowledge regarding donation process. Only 5% of the students were aware of that the registration in the SSCDR is not require providing a blood sample. Positive attitude toward joining donor registry drive and donating with HSC was reported among medical students. The result showed more than 50% of participants were agree to join registry drive in their area and 60.1% were welcome to donate stem cells during their medical school days for unrelated individual. Majority of students (89%) were willing to donate stem cells to any family member who matched with them and needed bone marrow transplantation. Conclusion: This study suggested that increasing awareness level and education is essential for the purpose of improving the medical students information, attitude toward joining SSCDR and donating HSC to save others’ life.

“ONCO-AESTETHIC”, A new medical approach to improve quality of life in cancer patients “onco - aesteic”,

Health-related quality of life is now considered a significant endpoint in studies of outcomes in oncology. Indeed, quality of life valuations in cancer patients may contribute to enhanced treatment and could even be of prognostic value [1]. Nevertheless, the quality of life of people affected by cancer is still neglected: doctors rarely address this aspect, few patients talk about it, and in a great number of the studies still their "well-being" is excluded from the criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of cancer therapy. Aesthetics and cancer are two concepts that are kept separate by instinct. It seems almost disrespectful to even imagine that a woman, or even more so a man, who has been diagnosed with cancer still has the desire and time to feel beautiful. But it is a mistake, especially since we too often underestimate how important the psychological aspect and relationships are in a therapeutic process. Early pivotal studies, lasting more than 30 years ago, showed already a positive relationship between some psychosocial and quality of life parameters and survival time in cancer patients [2,3]. Currently, a great number of studies have clearly demonstrated that global quality of life or global health status is associated with prolonged survival time [4].

The use of medical (and recreational) cannabis in moderation, has been purported to ameliorate pain and discomfort from patients suffering from the effects of neoplastic diseases, administration of chemotherapy, neuropathy, inflammation, muscle spasticity and more [1,2]. The inordinate use of cannabis paradoxically, has been etiologically linked to patients presenting with intense gastrointestinal cramps, cyclical diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting clinically referred to as cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome or CHS [3]. Although once considered rare, CHS has markedly increased over the last number of years. Data obtained from two urban hospital Emergency Departments for example, showed > one third of cannabis users being diagnosed with CHS [4,5]. The abuse of cannabis is not considered life threatening, although two CHS-associated mortalities due to nonspecific electrolyte imbalances have been reported [6].

Introduction: Coronavirus crisis has activated healthcare administrations and personnel at highest level. Health informatics software tools and innovative e-governance policies can contribute to this point. In a previous study, we proposed a nationwide biomedical registry framework, that it could be valuable as a healthcare management tool of eGov Health, additionally. Methods: Translating COVID-19 outbreak in health informatics terms, we developed virtual COVID- 19 datasets to demonstrate a generic COVID-19 patient recruitment system in Greece. An open- source JS library was also used to develop a custom interactive map in order to display valuable information for clinical trial researchers and crisis managers. Results: Results indicate our proposed application enhances the clinical trial processes to recruit eligible patients as a clinical trial cohort. Registered physicians - clinical researchers can overview available COVID-19 patients per health unit, nationwide. The implemented virtual web maps provide a helpful visualization of COVID-19 crisis in Greece. Conclusion: Our proposed recruitment system could function both as a PRS and a DSS tool under infection diseases parameters. We strongly believe our application has generic eGov potential, both as an enhancing tool to design a clinical trial and as a healthcare crisis management tool.

Objectives: Older adults with diabetes have double the normal average risk for depression. While women also report higher rates of depression, men are less likely than women to recognize symptoms and seek assistance for mental health treatment. Racial disparities in mental health care use among men have also been identified. While age and gender differences in mental health care use have been accounted for in adults with comorbid diabetes and depression little is known about within group differences among men. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of age and race on mental health service use in a sample of men with comorbid diabetes and depression.

Methods: This study utilized secondary data from a large health care delivery system serving in a Midwestern urban city and included 335 Black, and non-Latino White men with comorbid type 2 diabetes and depression.

Results and discussion: Findings indicate that men under the age of 55 were less likely to experience a 6-month or more delay in receiving a psychiatric medication prescription after their initial depression diagnosis. Black men over 55 years of age were significantly more likely to experience a delay of over six months to receiving psychiatric medication. More research is needed to explore preferred depression treatment methods for older Black men with type 2 diabetes, in addition to any issues with access to pharmacological medications to treat depression.

Benefits of participating in mastermind groups

The academic career path is seldom straightforward. Many health professionals and researchers face stress and uncertain employment opportunities. Joining a collegial support group, a so-called “mastermind” group, is one way to help navigate these challenges. We investigated postdoctoral researchers’ (N=16) experiences with participating in a mastermind group using an online survey. Introduction: Virtual reality is a controversial tool in medical education; it has previously been shown to be very useful in anatomy and physiology. Objective: to evaluate the physiology simulation laboratory PhysioEx v9.1 during the course of Human Morphophysiology at a private university in Lima, Peru. Methods: This cross-sectional study was developed in two stages: the first, under the critical approach of software analysis, and the second, with a structured survey aimed at Human Medicine students on simulation. The study instrument was subdivided into two parts with 17 questions (15 closed and 2 open). The first surveyed the know-how of the previous three weeks of simulation, and the second, on the Technologies Applied to Health Communication and a satisfaction scale of the study program and the simulator. Results: Our findings show a high performance of the simulator in the approach to cellular physiology, where ~70% and ~60% of students understood respectively passive and active transport, and membrane potential and electrical transmission. The experience was rated as relevant (35%), satisfactory (55%), and indicative (77%). Forty-five percent considered the English language as the major limitation, followed by inaccessibility in other spaces such as their homes or work centers (20%). The main advantages were graphics (45%) and ease-of-use (25%). Thirty percent do not believe that the experience allows consolidating the studies of medicine and 78% experience inattention by the teacher. Conclusions: the evaluation of the simulator allowed knowing its main advantage and reticence (the English language) within a new educational experience in Peruvian students. *Correspondence to: School of Human Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Norbert Wiener University, Lima, Peru, E-mail: jeel.moya@upsjb.edu.pe

In the last decades, in many countries worldwide childhood and adolescent levels of overweight and obesity have reached epidemic status. According to “WHO European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative” [1] the prevalence of overweight (including obesity) ranged from 18% to 57% among boys and from 18% to 50% among girls aged 6 to 9 years. The highest overweight prevalence was found in Southern European countries [1]. In Greece for example, the prevalence of abdominal obesity in 7-year-old children was about 25% in 2010 [2]. A lower, but still very high prevalence was found in Germany: Here, in the period from 2014 up to 2017, the prevalence of overweight/obesity was 15.4%/5.9% in children and adolescents aged 3 to 17 years [3], yet no increase in the period from 2003 to 2006 was found. Similar figures were reported by Ogden, et al. [4]: In their cohort the prevalence of overweight and obesity among U.S. children/adolescents was 16.9%, but there was no further increase from 2003/2004 to 2011/2012 [4]. Interestingly, in most of the countries analyzed overweight and obesity were more prevalent in lower social classes [5-7].
