Kruckenberg tumor is a metastatic lesion of the ovary, the source of which is the primary cancerous focus in other organs (generally in the digestive system); it often causes difficulties in differential diagnosis with primary ovarian cancer. We report a case of a 67-yearold woman who presented bilateral, 3 cm in diameter, pure solid, encapsulated and hyperechoic smooth masses, surrounded by a hypoechoic ring with clear tumor margins. Doppler ultrasonography revealed abundant vascularization, with a characteristic treeshaped structure penetrating from the periphery into the central part of the lesion with low impedance and diminished vascular resistance. Approximately 5% to 10% of all ovarian malignancies are metastatic carcinomas. Asymmetrically enlarged bilateral encapsulated masses, with variable intratumoral echogenic density, and ascites are the main characteristics of sonography of Krukenberg tumors. The structure of these tumors is usually hyperechoic with abundant vascularization. Several sonographic markers have been used to show the low impedance of intratumoral circulation in ovarian malignancy, attributing this to the active angiogenesis of these tumors. Krukenberg tumors have a poor prognosis, with an overall 5-year survival rate of 12%. Hence prophylactic bilateral oophorectomy is recommended for women with stomach cancer.

Background: People of South Asia descent in the UK have high coronary heart disease (CHD) risk. Psychosocial factors affect the risk of CHD, independent of ethnicity. Factors such as stress, depression and anxiety are postulated to be predictors of heart disease. The objectives of this review were to systematically review quantitative research on psychosocial factors and CHD in South Asians in Europe and North America to answer the question: What is the relation between psychosocial factors and CHD in South Asians residing in Europe and North America? Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted according to the recommendations of the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination and the PRISMA guidelines. Electronic databases were searched using relevant terms and data were extracted into data extraction forms. The quality assessment criteria were adapted from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance 2009. A narrative review was planned. Results: Five cross-sectional studies and their associated eight papers were included. The studies varied with reference to the age of samples, psychosocial factors and in reporting. For depression, four studies showed increased levels in South Asian population compared to the White population. Two studies reported low optimism present in South Asians compared to the general population. Four out of five studies showed lower social support in South Asian men in comparison to the general population. One study found that South Asians had low control and high social support at work compared to the White population. One study showed no differences in work strain. Conclusions: The evidence was limited but indicated psychosocial risk factors were commoner in South Asians compared to the general population. New, large scale, especially prospective studies should explore this.

Background: Excess body fat is a major health risk to various chronic diseases. Given the ease of measurement and low cost of body weight and height, body mass index (BMI) has been widely used to estimate body fatness. The present study evaluates the accuracy of BMI as an indicator of body fatness, measured via bioelectric impedance (BIA) during the elementary school years in Austrian children. Methods: Out of six schools in Innsbruck, Austria, anthropometric assessments and BIA measurements were performed in 199 children starting elementary school in fall 2013. Annual follow-up measurements were performed by the same measurement team until 4th grade. Results: Cross-sectional analyses revealed a significant moderate correlation between BMI and percent body fat (%BF) (r=0.61) and an AUC of 0.88 indicated high accuracy of BMI as an indicator for body fatness. There was also high tracking of BMI and %BF over the 4-year observation period (r ≥ 0.84). Follow-up measurements further showed that the association between BMI and %BF increased with age during the elementary school years (rgrade 4 = 0.78; AUCgrade 4 = 0.96). Conclusions: Given the health problems associated with excess body fat an accessible and accurate assessment of body composition is warranted. The BMI provides a low-cost and easily administered surrogate measure of body fatness in elementary school children for initial screening. Children considered at risk, however, may require more elaborate assessments that directly measure fat mass and fat-free mass.
