An application of two different energy loss parameters on the mass determination of cosmic ray nuclei in nuclear emulsion 两种不同能量损失参数在核乳液中宇宙线核质量测定中的应用

The parameters REL (restricted energy loss) and Z22 are used to represent the energy loss of highly energetic heavy ions in nuclear emulsion.

The relations between these parameters and track widths are approximately independent of the charge of the moving nucleus. It is shown that it is possible to use the two parameters for the identification of particle masses of cosmic-ray nitrogen. The identification is based on photometric measurements of track widths of carbon, nitrogen and oxygen. The accuracy of the calibration is ±0.1 amu.

The influence of a pre-irradiation thermal treatment on such properties as solvent removal, bulk etch rate, etch delay time and sensitivity has been investigated for cellulose nitrate (CN) detectors. It has been found that the duration of the thermal pre-treatment has a remarkable effect on the transparency of the etched detector sheets.

研究了预辐照热处理对硝酸纤维素(CN)探测器的溶剂去除、本体蚀刻速率、蚀刻延迟时间和灵敏度等性能的影响。已经发现,热预处理的持续时间对蚀刻的探测器片的透明度有显著影响。

Track width of slow Ne and Ar ions recorded in nuclear emulsions was photometrically studied. For β≦0.08, photometrical measurements are influenced by the grain noise, the inaccuracy of charge determination increasing with the decreasing residual range. It was found that Katz's theory of track-formation mechanism does not explain track structure at small residual ranges.

Charged particle dose measurement using infrared spectroscopy 红外光谱测量带电粒子剂量

Estimation of dose due to charged particles, mainly alphas, in cellulose triacetate has been made possible by using the technique of infrared spectroscopy. The method has been developed to the extent that such measurements may be extended to tissue or tissue-equivalent materials. The present technique employs the changes in the relative absorbability of infrared radiation in pre-irradiated foils. Optimum thickness of the foil for 4He2+ particles, of about 4.7 MeV energy, is employed in this investigation. The characteristics and the implications of such dose detection are briefly discussed in the paper.
