Circular supplier selection in the construction industry: A sustainability perspective for the emerging economies 建筑业循环供应商选择:新兴经济体的可持续性视角

Supplier selection is one of the most important multi-criteria problems in supply chain management (SCM). Most of the existing decision-making frameworks for selecting suppliers in the construction industry have given priority to criteria such as cost, delivery, and quality. However, due to the current emphasis on achieving sustainability and reducing environmental impact, organizations are increasingly embracing circular economy (CE) principles. In this study, thereby, we proposed an integrated multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) framework, which is comprised of a fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) and a preference ranking organization method for enrichment of evaluations II (PROMETHEE II) for circular supplier selection in the construction industry from the perspective of countries with emerging economies. In the proposed framework, FAHP was used to first identify the weight of each criterion and sub-criteria, and PROMETHEE II was used to rank the suppliers from best to worst. Results showed that on-time delivery, conformance to specifications, and rejection rate are the top three criteria for supplier selection. Additionally, the top three circular supplier selection criteria included pollution control initiatives, green packaging, and responses toward environmental regulations and standards. The result of this approach has been compared with another MCDM method, namely the weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS) method, which validated the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed approach. Through the implementation of circular supplier selection, the proposed research is expected to reinforce the circular supply chain model, which can help managers in the construction sector to improve the sustainability of their overall business.

Supplier sustainability: A comprehensive review and future research directions 供应商可持续性:全面回顾和未来研究方向

Sustainability is not a one-player task. Organizations have started to realize that their supply chains have a significant social and environmental impact, usually greater than their own operations, and managing sustainability at suppliers is crucial for supply chain-wide sustainability. Supplier sustainability management (SSM) research is fast evolving across multiple disciplines but lacks an interdisciplinary review to guage the progress made, and to decide the path forward. Heightened global focus on sustainability compels us to explore research avenues in SSM for meaningful progress. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of SSM research including the most recent work. We propose the Motivation-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Govern (MMAIG) framework for supplier sustainability, identify the limitations of current SSM research in enabling this framework, and propose future research directions. Our key observations are that (a) current SSM research is heavily focused on measuring and monitoring supplier sustainability, and (b) supplier sustainability improvement/development research is limited and the majority of it is about sustainable supplier selection. The future research directions that we propose are centered around (a) optimizing the investments towards supplier sustainability through collaboration, proposing mechanisms that consider risks, liabilities, and gains of all parties, and (b) considering behavioral aspects to overcome SSM implementation issues. Organizations can achieve efficient improvement in supplier sustainability by using a collaborative approach that is data-driven and trust-based. We discuss several mechanisms within our MMAIG framework that can help organizations in their collaborative approach.

Researchers have recently developed a model for international supply chains for transferring lots in equal-sized batches, taking environmental concerns into account. This scheme incorporated stochastic behaviour of the exchange rate between the vendor's and buyer's currencies as part of the process for making optimal decisions on the supply chain. They demonstrated that their model leads to a decrease in the total cost. However, a lower total cost can be achieved by synchronizing the integrated production flow through generalization of the batch transfer method used to deliver the lot. Furthermore, there seems to be a better fit from a new data set for comparing two currencies. With these developments in mind, we suggest an alternative model, considering transferring batches of unequal sizes, transfer costs that may be fixed or variable, and with an eye on environmental issues. Numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the proposed model and solution method. These numerical experiments show the value of this integrated approach in the combined determination of optimal policies for production and shipment. Suggestions for further research are given in the conclusion.

Buyer–supplier relationships and environmental sustainability in developing regions: Field evidence from Zimbabwe's private telecommunication sector 发展中地区的供需关系和环境可持续性:津巴布韦私营电信部门的实地证据

There is increasing global call by various stakeholders on adherence to environmental sustainability. This need to adherence has prompted organisations to partner with suppliers to address the environmental sustainability agenda. The telecommunication sector is not excluded in this endeavour to push the frontier for environmental sustainability to greater heights. The purpose of this research is to give insights on the input of buyer–supplier relationships to intensify environmental sustainability going forward. The researcher used the questionnaire and interview guide from procurement practitioners in the private telecommunication sector. The empirical result revealed that transactional relationships have the greatest input in environmental sustainability as compared to both strategic alliances and collaborative relationships. Strategic alliances and collaborative relationships yielded positive results when dealing with key suppliers of strategic items. This research contributes to how procurement policy makers and practitioners can optimize telecommunication supply chains towards environmental sustainability for the future. Theoretically, this study shows how buyer-supplier relationships are key to intensify environmental sustainability, thus reducing environmental harm when put into practice.

Assessment of Agile manufacturing impact on business performance of Indian manufacturing industry: A PLS-SEM approach 敏捷制造对印度制造业经营绩效影响的评估:PLS-SEM方法

A limited number of previous studies investigated the impact of agile manufacturing on overall business performance, especially in the Indian context. The study investigates the influence of agile manufacturing attributes, namely: Leadership support, Human related issues, customer-related issues, and Information technology on business performance. The data was collected from 154 manufacturing industries and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The results show a positive and significant influence of agile manufacturing attributes on the manufacturing industry's business performance.
