Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects millions of women worldwide. Endometriosis can lead to an array of symptoms such as pelvic pain, dyspareunia, dyschezia, fatigue, infertility, anxiety, and depression. On average, it takes several years for a patient to obtain an endometriosis diagnosis, because symptoms may be attributed to another condition or the patient’s perception that these symptoms are normal. It is important for nurse practitioners to be mindful of the differing presentations of endometriosis to ensure a timely diagnosis by ordering appropriate diagnostic imaging, management, and referral to an endometriosis specialist.

A 60-year-old man with history of diverticular disease presents requesting an antibiotic prescription. Diverticulitis can be uncomplicated or complicated, with treatment in outpatient vs inpatient settings, respectively. Diverticulitis workup may include a thorough history and physical examination, urine urinalysis, C-reactive protein, complete blood count, complete metabolic profile, and computed tomography scanning. Complicated diverticulitis may require intravenous fluids and antibiotics, nothing by mouth, percutaneous abscess drainage, and surgical colon resection. Antibiotic stewardship is paramount to public safety. Avoidance of antibiotics for acute uncomplicated diverticulitis in immunocompetent patients without risks for decompensation is an acceptable practice in select patients.

Findings from a cross-sectional survey conducted in early 2023 suggest that adult gerontology primary care and family nurse practitioner programs led by faculty members with more progressive and/or less traditional views of sex and gender may be more likely to champion the integration of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) into their program’s curriculum. Findings from this study underscore the potential impact of faculty beliefs on the education delivered to nurse practitioner students and highlights the need to work with adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (AGPCNP) and family nurse practitioner (FNP) program leaders to equip future primary care providers to care for transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals in clinical practice.

Dental insurance and access to care need substantial improvement in the United States, given their current inadequacies that contribute to suboptimal oral and physical health outcomes and escalate national health care expenditures. The disparities in access to dental care exacerbate oral health disparities across socioeconomic lines. With their broad reach and comprehensive approach to health care, nurse practitioners are uniquely positioned to play a pivotal role in enhancing oral health outcomes. They can effectively integrate preventive measures and early intervention strategies for conditions such as odontogenic infections, thereby reducing emergency department visits and improving overall patient health. This clinical feature critically examines evidence-based practices for the presentation, diagnosis, and management of odontogenic infections within primary care settings. Disseminating this knowledge aims to empower nurse practitioners to deliver timely and effective care, ultimately fostering more significant equity and accessibility in dental health services nationwide.

Purpose
Nurse practitioner students receiving competency-based education must demonstrate provision of comprehensive care. Innovative competency-based assignments designed to hone diagnostic and articulation skills prepare novices to deliver complicated care proficiently.
Methods
Across 2 cohorts, student perceptions of an innovative assignment called the Hallway Consultation were analyzed.
Results
Results from the “Perception of Non-Postgraduate Residents for One-Minute Preceptor in Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinical Teaching questionnaire” were favorable, indicating the competency-based assignment enhanced diagnostic reasoning, technical abilities, and communication.
Conclusions
Innovative assignments such as the Hallway Consultation should be included in nursing curriculum to effectively prepare providers for complex health care delivery.

In 2021, United States federal law mandated greater public transparency around the relationships between pharmaceutical and medical device companies and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). Pharmaceutical and device companies must report all payments, gifts, and value of meals to APRNs in a searchable database called Open Payments, which is hosted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In this policy feature, we introduce Open Payments, provide an overview of recent changes, and discuss implications for APRNs. We aim to familiarize APRNs with Open Payments and current publicly reported practice patterns to catalyze conversations regarding ethical interactions between industry and APRNs.
(Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services)托管。在本政策专题中,我们将介绍 "开放支付",概述最近的变化,并讨论对全科护士的影响。我们旨在让全科护士熟悉开放式支付和当前公开报道的实践模式,以促进有关行业和全科护士之间道德互动的对话。
