A new species of harpacticoid copepod, Cletocamptus cubaensis n. sp., from a marine aquarium in Cuba, previously identified with the highly polymorphic Cletocamptus deitersi (Richard, 1897), is described herein. A revision of the Cuban material showed that, despite the morphological similarity to Cletocamptus deitersi, there are significant interspecific differences in several microcharacters that were not taken into account in the previous species determination, such as integumental sensilla and pores, and ornamentation of segments, mouthparts, swimming legs, prosome, and urosome. Additionally, some other differences were observed in the relative length and shape of the apophysis of the endopod of P3 in males, the armature complement of the second segment of endopod P2 in males (with four setae instead of three), the ornamentation and length of the caudal rami in both sexes, and the ornamentation of the anal operculum (with 8 spinules). Similarity to other species is discussed, along with brief comments on the morphological similarities and differences between the new species from Cuba and Cletocamptus nudus Gómez, 2005 recorded from Brazil and Colombia, C. schmidti Mielke, 2000 known from the Galapagos archipelago, and C. samariensis Fuentes-Reinés, Zoppi de Roa & Torres, 2015 from Colombia.

The Notch signalling pathway is widely present in organisms and is an essential factor involved in the developmental process. JAGGED-1, as an important ligand in the Notch signalling pathway, has been cloned from Exopalaemon carinicauda and its role in growth and development have been studied. The full length of the jagged-1 cDNA of E. carinicauda was 5148 bp encoding a protein composed of 1307 amino acids, which had the highest identity with JAGGED-1 of Procambarus clarkii. The expression of jagged-1 varied with development, with the highest expression at the gastrula stage of embryonic development, the Z2 stage of larval development, and the G4 stage of ovary development, respectively. The expression of jagged-1 in the interference group was significantly lower than that in the control group between 3 and 72 h post jagged-1 RNA interference. The expression of key genes in the Notch signalling pathway, including notch1 and delta, and genes related to growth and development, including chh, gih and mih, decreased significantly post jagged-1 RNA interference. After continuous jagged-1 RNA interference, the ovary of the interference group only developed to the G3 stage, while the ovary of the control group developed to the G4 stage. Further study found that there were 8 SNPs including one missense mutation (SNP 2389 T > C) and seven synonymous mutations, and the SNP 2389 T > C and SNP 2799 G > C might be related to the growth of E. carinicauda. The results showed that jagged-1 was involved in the growth and development of E. carinicauda.

The northern coast of Peru includes a series of dissipative desert beaches with varying levels of human impact. One endemic species to these beaches is Ocypode gaudichaudii, which has been shown to be an indicator of ecosystem disturbance. We measured population density, sex ratio, and cephalothorax length of O. gaudichaudii on three beaches near Salaverry between September 2021 and February 2022. The average population density was 0.15 burrows/m2. There was a higher proportion of males (56%); and average cephalothorax length was 28.8 ± 5.6 mm. Population, length, and sex variations during the study may be explained by behaviour of O. gaudichaudii and by temperature-dependent breeding. We also calculated the Von Bertalanffy growth parameters (, , ) and estimated the instantaneous mortality rate to be 0.84/year. These data indicate a high level of disturbance in the ecosystem, with few specimens approaching .

The Holocene fossil crab genus Arges De Haan, 1833, is here shown to be a senior subjective synonym of the pilumnid crab Typhlocarcinops Rathbun, 1909. Both genera possess the diagnostic character of an extremely wide first male pleonal somite that reaches across the wide thoracic sternum to the base of the coxae of the fourth pair of ambulatory legs. Arges parallelus (De Haan, 1833), is also here regarded as a senior subjective synonym of Typhlocarcinops decrescens Rathbun, 1904, a species known from Japan, China, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Indonesian Papua.

In this study, the effects of live feed and five different commercial microparticle feeds (300-500 μm) on the survival and growth performance of first-feeding juvenile Pontastacus leptodactylus were investigated for 21 days. Six groups were tested: Group I got the live feed, i.e., Artemia nauplii; Group II was fed Abalioglu feed; Group III got Kılıc feed; Group IV Allotec feed; Group V Inve feed; and Group VI Gemma feed. Twenty-five juveniles of the second developmental stage, with a mean weight of 0.03 ± 0.01 g and mean length of 11.0 ± 0.01 mm were randomly distributed as four replicates into four 70 × 30 × 40 cm aquariums. Accordingly, a total of 600 juvenile crayfish were divided into 24 experimental groups. The diets were abundantly fed over the experimental period. The growth rate and survival rates of the experimental groups were significantly different (). The results indicated that the best diet for feeding the second-stage juvenile crayfish in terms of growth, was the Inve feed.

Pseudocypretta franki n. sp. is described from Lake Sibaya in South Africa. This is the first African species of the genus, which has two further Asian and one South American species. Clearly, the genus has a much wider distribution than originally thought and it is postulated that further species could be found in zoogeographical regions from where it is presently unknown. Pseudocypretta franki n. sp. differs from its congeners in the much larger overlap of the right valve by the left valve along anterior, ventral and posterior sides, and by the shape of the valves both in dorsal and in lateral views. The new species lacks the caudal rami, just as in the South American P. amor, whereas both Asian species do have Cypridopsinae-type reduced caudal rami.

A new species of Vellumnus Ng, 2010 (Pilumnidae) is described from coral debris in the Persian Gulf.
