During the development phase, the child is in the process of building human and social relationships. Smile aesthetics is an important point in the individual self-image and may interfere in his interaction with society and self-esteem. Thus, when smile harmony is impaired, the child’s self-image may be altered, promoting marks on her personality that may be perpetuated until adulthood. This case study analyzed the interference of dental rehabilitation in two children that had impaired aesthetics, qualitatively measuring through psychoanalysis, the impact that the aesthetics factor can have on self-image during the childhood. Psychological analysis and oral aesthetics rehabilitation were used as methodology, and rehabilitation varied according to the needs of each case. At the end of the treatment it was concluded that the aesthetics dental rehabilitation provided to these children development of psychic-emotional balance, enabling them a better social life.

The demand of patients for an aesthetic and harmonious smile has been growing, which generates the need for knowledge of various techniques and materials to obtain satisfactory results. Thus, ceramic restorations are increasingly present in dentistry due to their excellent optical and mechanical properties. Thus, the objective of this work was to perform the functional and aesthetic restoration of the smile through ceramic restorations in the anterior teeth. Patient L.T., male, 47 years old, sought the dental clinic of the Universidade Paranaense, complaining about the aesthetics of his smile. On clinical examination, asymmetry was observed between the gingival zeniths of the elements, as well as short clinical crowns and extensive and unsatisfactory composite resin restorations. In the radiographic examination, it was observed the presence of satisfactory molten metal core in the element 21, and the need for endodontic treatment in the elements 12, 11 and 22, for placement of intraradicular retainer, being selected the Fiberglass Pin (FP). Given this case, the procedure of gingivectomy with osteotomy was also proposed. Total metal-free crowns were made of lithium disilicate for elements 13, 12 and 22 and zirconia for elements 11 and 21. The ceramic laminate on tooth 23 was also made of lithium disilicate. The final result obtained was approved by the patient and the professionals involved.

Odontogenic keratocyst (OK) is a controversial lesion classified by the WHO in 2005 as an odontogenic tumor and, more recently, in 2017, it was again classified as a developmental odontogenic cyst. It is characterized by local invasiveness and high recurrence rates. It presents, in most cases, asymptomatic and has a higher incidence in the mandible. The aim of this article is to report a clinical case of OK in the maxilla describing its characteristics and treatment. A 15-year-old male patient sought the Maxillofacial Surgery service at Hospital do Oeste, Barreiras/ BA, complaining of swelling in the maxillary region, with a diagnostic hypothesis of cyst based in routine panoramic radiography. For better diagnostic elucidation, a multi-slice computed tomography was performed, where a hypodense, multilocular image was observed in the right maxilla, which histopathologically confirmed to be a OK. Surgical treatment with curettage and patient follow-up was performed. OK is one of the most frequent odontogenic lesions in the jaws, that’s why it is very important to know the clinical, radiographic, and histopathological characteristics, in addition to professional experience for the diagnosis and treatment of this pathology.

An alternative for antibiotic prophylaxis in patients allergic to penicillin is the use of clindamycin. However, there is still no consensus in the literature on the indication of an ideal antibiotic, or whether there is any more effective alternative than clindamycin for patients allergic to penicillin when undergoing dental implant or bone graft surgery. This study aimed to compare the failure rate of implants and bone grafts in patients that took antibiotic prophylaxis with amoxicillin, and patients allergic to penicillin that took clindamycin to antibiotic prophylaxis. The study has a secondary objective that is the evaluation of antibiotic prophylaxis protocols with amoxicillin or clindamycin, comparing dosage with the failure rates of implants and bone grafts. A search for eligible articles for this review was performed in the Pubmed electronic database (MEDLINE). The inclusion criteria used were prospective studies, randomized or not; retrospective studies; studies performed with systemically healthy patients who underwent placement of dental implants or bone grafts and used amoxicillin or clindamycin as antibiotic prophylaxis. As results, there is still no consensus on the prescription for an ideal prophylactic regimen. Furthermore, patients not allergic to penicillin tend to have a lower percentage of failures (losses) of dental implants and bone grafts. It was concluded that patients allergic to penicillin who used clindamycin as antibiotic prophylaxis had a higher rate of implant and graft failure, as well as a higher frequency of post-surgical infections.
